England v West Indies 3rd ODI

Paul Collingwood said English fans could expect successful times in one-day cricket, despite losing the series to West Indies in Nottingham.

England were beaten by 93 runs at Trent Bridge following a 61-run defeat at Edgbaston, but skipper Collingwood said positives had come out of the series.

He said: "It's never nice losing but being captain has been very enjoyable.

"We weren't good enough but next time hopefully we will be. We've learnt a lot and the future's looking bright."

Collingwood had been skippering a team in flux with the likes of Michael Vaughan and Andrew Strauss dropped, Andrew Flintoff injured and Marcus Trescothick taking an indefinite break from international cricket.

England won the first match of the series at Lord's after successfully defending a total of 225.

But their batting was not up to scratch on that occasion, and was even less convincing in the other two games.

The fast bowlers also let the side down in the two defeats as West Indies racked up scores of 278-5 and 298-5.

Collingwood said: "Give a lot of credit to the West Indies for the way they've come out and played some good aggressive cricket, but we have to take forward what we've learnt, and keep learning.

"As long as we keep going forward, and go back to our counties and learn our skills, that will keep up us moving forward.

"We also need to look at our performances and analyse where we have gone wrong but there have been a lot of positives as well.

"It's been a lot about consistency as well. We have good spells but it's putting them together and playing good consistent cricket that counts.

"You want to be scoring 100s and taking wickets in the middle period but you have to give West Indies a lot of credit for the way they went about scoring runs."
