Gayle has guided the team to successive victories |
West Indies captain Chris Gayle said the team utilised criticism of their performance to inspire them to a one-day international series victory. The Windies lost the four-match Test series 3-0 and acting skipper Gayle said: "A lot of people wrote us off and we used that as motivation.
"It was an embarrassing but we have now shown the public what we're capable of.
"I think the curfew might be off tonight, we are going to move forward and put the bad things behind us."
The last remark was a reference to Gayle's wrangle with the West Indies Cricket Board, which culminated in a censure when he criticised selection policy and board policies.
"I don't know if I have a battle with them right now but we'll see what happens after the series," the languid Jamaican said.
Man-of-the-match Daren Powell claimed 4-40 and was delighted to dislodge key man Kevin Pietersen.

"From the first ball at Lord's he has been on my list, he is one of the big bats in world cricket. I love to see him play but not while I'm bowling.
"Every time I go out to bowl with the new ball I think about picking up early wickets.
"After I got [Matt] Prior out and then Pietersen I thought this is the day for West Indies cricket."
Obdurate left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul scooped the man-of-the-series award for scores of 53, 116 and 33, only being dismissed once.
In all cricket against England he scored 771 runs at an average of 154, spending 35 hours and facing a remarkable 220 overs.
Chanderpaul paid tribute to Gayle, who took over the captaincy for the one-day series in the absence of injured Ramnaresh Sarwan.
"I am impressed with the way he has been handling things so far," 32-year-old Chanderpaul said.
"We have a lot of talent in our team, if we can be more consistent we can win a lot more games.
