Hobbs was England's top batsman for nearly 30 years, scoring more runs than any other Englishman in Ashes matches. He is the most successful foreign batsman at both Melbourne and Adelaide, with three of his eight tons at those grounds coming during his golden tour of 1911/12.
He was a master of any delivery on all types of wicket and relished the challenge of a testing track.
His overall tally of 61,237 first-class runs and 197 centuries - figures that would have been even better but for the First World War - are unlikely to be beaten.
