Lillee was the outstanding fast bowler of his generation, setting a new world record with a total of 355 Test wickets. With flailing hair and a bristling moustache, Lillee was a menacing maelstrom of momentum racing into the wicket before letting loose from a classical side-on delivery.
His first seven matches were Ashes encounters and on his first tour he arrived on the international stage with 31 wickets at under 18 apiece.
In his last Test in England, in 1981, he took his best Ashes match figures of 11-159 and brought his series haul to a personal best 39.
