Vaughan congratulates James Anderson, who took 2-23 |
Michael Vaughan has urged his England side not to rest on their laurels after taking a 2-0 series lead over the West Indies with a 256-run win at Edgbaston. Vaughan said: "As long as we work hard, prepare and keep having that inner drive we will put the West Indies under pressure in their last two games.
"It is by no means out of our reach to win the last two [Tests] but you don't win without putting the hard work in.
"We must make sure we go to Manchester in as good a shape as we were here."
Following the victory at Edgbaston and the gruelling effects of back-to-back Tests, the squad will receive a much-needed breather before resuming rivalries at Old Trafford on 12 August.
Vaughan concedes the startling form of the side is making his job at the helm easy, but insists good preparation - be it fitness focused or technical - is the key to success.
"We knew when we got a 480-run lead that it was tough for the team batting last, but the way some of our players are playing is making my job very easy," he added. "The team are running themselves while individuals are playing to such a high standard.
"We are playing some good cricket and we have got some good players - we're on a bit of a roll.
"To have a good side you have to have that, but you also have to have hard work and a lot of preparation and we are getting that spot on at the minute.
Andrew Flintoff was named man-of-the-match for his 167 in the first innings that helped England total 566-9 declared.
But Flintoff graciously admitted the award could equally have gone to Marcus Trescothick, a centurion in both innings, or Ashley Giles, who took nine wickets for the second Test in succession.
"Giles is bowling as well as ever," said a delighted Vaughan.
While Vaughan has the luxury of a team on song, his opposite number Brian Lara is struggling to rally his troops, although he was full of praise for England.
"It is a very well-oiled team with everyone knowing their jobs and performing well," he said. "It is one of the better England teams I have played against, but I am almost sure Michael Vaughan would say this is not one of the better West Indies teams he has played against so it is all relative."
