New Road pavilion open to players

Worcestershire's players will use their new pavilion for the first time in Monday's Twenty20 Cup opener against Gloucestershire.

But supporters will have to wait a little longer to use it as, as the catering facilities are not yet ready.

Worcestershire marketing director David Leatherdale says it will be a great new facility for players and spectators.

"There is so much we will be able to do compared to our old pavilion," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"We have cricket here about 50 days of the year," said Leatherdale. "And we will be able to maximise the use of the new building for conferences, meetings, lunches and social occasions."

The dressing rooms are at the top of the new three-storey structure.

Members facilities will be on the second floor, providing an even more spectacular view of the New Road ground and the famous backdrop of Worcester Cathedral.

The new construction, to be known as the Graeme Hick pavilion, will be opened by the former Worcestershire and England star on 30 May before the home Twenty20 game against Northants.

There will be full commentary on Monday's game against Gloucestershire (25 May, 1500 BST) on BBC Hereford & Worcester on 738 am and online.
