England captain Michael Vaughan was fined the whole of his match fee to cap a miserable day for the tourists in the fourth Test against South Africa. Vaughan had complained about umpires Steve Bucknor and Aleem Dar's decision regarding the light on Friday evening.
And match referee Clive Lloyd said: "As the captain, Michael Vaughan should be aware of his duties and the rules under which he is playing.
"It is a serious offence to make such comments about the match officials."
On Friday night, Vaughan, who was 82 not out when the umpires decided to call off play for the day, had said: "All you ask for is consistency and we don't feel there's been that much consistency today.
"Throughout the morning session it was pretty dark and we could quite easily have come off.
"It's probably the best light we've had all day and we're off in the dressing-room sitting down."
It capped a disappointing day for England as South Africa, in reply to the tourists' first innings of 411-8 declared, finished day three in Johannesburg on 306-6.
England were also hit by cramp problems for leading bowler Matthew Hoggard while the ineffective Steve Harmison was unable to bowl for much of the day with some pain in a calf muscle.
