Australia claimed the Dutch tri-series title in their only completed match with a 17-run defeat of Pakistan on a difficult Amsterdam pitch.

The world champions looked below-par in making 192-7 after play began 90 minutes late because of a wet outfield.

Matthew Hayden hit 59 before Darren Lehmann (40) and Andrew Symonds (36) added 57 together in 11 overs.

With 10 overs left Pakistan were 148-5 but after Yousuf Youhana fell for 43 they tumbled to 175 all out.

Jason Gillespie replaced Michael Kasprowicz in the Australian side, which had not bowled in the rain-hit tournament before the final.

He claimed figures of 1-22 but it was the spinners who starred on a wicket of vastly variable bounce, Symonds and Lehmann taking two wickets each.

Pakistan also made one change, with Imran Farhat replacing Younis Khan and opening the innings.

There were just 47 runs on the board in the 21st over, though, when he gave a catch to Hayden in the deep for 17.

The combination of Symonds and Lehmann was also responsible for the run out that ended Shoaib Malik's threatening innings on 36.

But it was Youhana's wicketthat proved the most valuable, wicket-keeper Brad Haddin snaffling a catch off Brad Hogg's wrist-spin.

Youhana was the second of five wickets to fall for 21 runs in six overs as the situation became first desperate and then terminal for Pakistan.
