The selectors have been keeping their eye on Aftab since he scored 129 in a National League game against Dhaka Division at the start of the year.

He had previously appeared for the national under-19 side, playing in the 2002 Youth World Cup in New Zealand where he made 79 in their game against South Africa.

Aftab was named in the squad for the first Test against England despite two failures against them for Bangladesh A.

"We are looking for a middle order batsman who is composed and has the right mentality to play at the highest level," selector Faruque Ahmed explained.
