Bangladesh were desperately clinging on to the second Test at the end of the third day's play against South Africa in Dhaka.

They were forced to follow on after being bowled out for 102 in their first innings.

And at the end of play, they were 204-8 - still 24 runs adrift of South Africa.

Debutant Robin Peterson was the pick of the bowlers in the second innings with 3-46 as Bangladesh crumbled.

Mehrab Hossain was the first man out and was run out with the score on 46.

Javed Omar followed without another run being added when he fell to spinner Paul Adams, who ended the day with 2-70.

Bangladesh have never won a Test match since gaining Test status three years ago.

Their captain Khaled Mahmud had hoped to force a draw in the match and in the first innings was the only batsman to defy disciplined bowling, remaining unbeaten on 20.

But in his second innings he was out for a duck, off spinner Peterson.

Bangladesh began the day on 4-0, chasing South Africa's total of 330, but although they scored runs, they could stay at the crease for any length of time.
