Wales head coach Steve Tandy speaking to S4C - "We're disappointed, but massive pride in our character that we showed.

"The intent and strength was there, it was a huge improvement from last week which we'll take with us to Italy.

"We've all got a huge relationship and a pride to represent Wales that bonds us together.

"Ireland have a lot of experience and a team full of British and Irish Lions in the team and they proved that through the mistakes we made.

"There's confidence building in the team, and that is going to take us to the win in the near future.

"We have to learn and make sure we back up the positives."

  8. 'It's a hard-fought win'published at 22:48 GMT

    FT: Ireland 27-17 Wales

Ireland head coach Andy Farrell speaking to ITV: "I thought it was a proper Test match as they should be. Credit to Wales they were outstanding certainly getting better defensively. They made it a scrap so to come away with a bonus-point win, happy with that."

On Ireland's defence: "We defended really well in the first half but we switched off just before half-time and when you do that you get punished. We showed some good character and we had good people on the bench who came on and made a difference for us, so it's a hard-fought win and we'll take the bonus point."

  9. 'We got there in the end'published at 22:47 GMT

    FT: Ireland 27-17 Wales

Ireland's Jamison Gibson-Park speaking to ITV: "Happy to get the win against a tough Welsh side, we knew they would put it up to us and they certainly did that so we're really happy with the win."

On their championship hopes: "All we could do was go out and get five points, which we did, although a bit scrappy but we got there in the end."

    Six Nations top try-scorers

You would have got some odds on Rhys Carre being top try scorer at the start of the tournament, but he's right in the mix after his stunner tonight.

Well done Ireland, well deserved win there. Wales genuinely impressed me, though, as they were so committed and played really well. Their defence was excellent and when Carre broke away, will be remembered that performance.

    Dave, Notts

Real arm wrestle out there. Wales fronted up physically and asked big questions of the Irish defence. The pack emptied the tank and the breakdown work was immense. Just couldn’t quite build enough phases in the right areas.

    FT: Ireland 27-17 Wales

Ireland coach and Welshman Aled Walters speaking to S4C: "Wales did well, and fair play to them for coming here and playing like that.

"They've have always been tough to play against, and Steve Tandy is creating this structure and time will come for that to come into fruition.

"Everyone talks, there wasn't anything major at half-time, just a sharp reminder to toughen things up. Like the Rhys Carre try, incredible by the way.

"We know the challenge that Scotland can bring, and that is in the back of our minds.

"It's a different challenge against Scotland, more rucks and more attack is needed.

I do sing the Welsh anthem though, I have too."

It was a big moment for Nathan Doak, who made his Ireland debut off the bench later.

It is reward for a fine season with Ulster, and the scrum half has not only stepped up in the nine jersey but is also a useful asset off the kicking tee.

His dad Neil, who was also a scrum half, came close to making his Ireland debut on a number of occasions at the start of the century but never made it onto the field, so it was a proud moment for the full family.

Some really positive things and some things Ireland need to work on. What was different between here and Twickenham, England didn't pose the same questions in defence that Wales did and Ireland didn't have answers. The game management at times was questionable. Ireland didn't manage the territory or get into scoring positions which will feel like a worry.

    Dewi LakeImage source, Inpho

Wales captain Dewi Lake speaking on S4C - "I’m a little disappointed to lose any game, but it’s been tough the past few weeks.

"The growth this team has gone through from the England game to now is really something.

"We’re always disappointed to lose, but the positives and the way we played is always something to be proud of.

"In the end, we couldn't cross the line. We had all the opportunities in the first half, maybe we didn’t take them as much in the second.

"I know I talk about the negatives, but we need to learn from them and going into next week we need to work on the breakdown and taking those chances.

"We’ve seen what Italy have been doing and doing well.

"The win is coming, I can feel it."

Wales will be disapointed, I think the hope was there to grab the win.

They've lost the control in the last 10 minutes in both games now, and the yellow card to Tomos Williams has cost them.

Ireland again showing that if you make mistakes, they will counter on that.

Another poor night of kicking from Ireland. A lot of it is in the head I would say but Jack Crowley will go away and work on it this week and we all know that both he and Sam Prendergast are more than good enough to be a consistent international out half in all facets of the game.

  18. 'It was scrappy'published at 22:30 GMT

    FT: Ireland 27-17 Wales

Ireland captain Caelan Doris speaking on ITV: "It was scrappy, we lacked a bit of clinical edge that we had a few weeks ago. We targeted a fast start and got the early try and the disallowed try and then let them build a bit of momentum, they had a bit of a purple patch at the end of the first half so we want to finish the championship strong against Scotland. It's a week we haven't done well in so we will want to get it right next week."

On what was good: "Scrum stuff was a lot better and we were firing shots and playing some good attacking rugby so there are good things to build on. There is good depth and competition too."

You could see the weight off Jacob Stockdale's shoulders when he went over for that try. Incredible to think that's his first international try in over five years but he played well as did all of the Ulster players.

The Ireland bench as a whole gave them a boost that they needed.

  20. Carre try 'right up there'published at 22:25 GMT

    FT: Ireland 27-17 Wales

Wales' Rhys Carre speaking on ITV: "We're showing improvement and we showed we're in a fight to the last play of these games and we showed our people we're coming back. Last week was gut-wrenching and this week we were in it to the last minute so we're working hard and we're getting there."

On if he has scored a better try: "I don't think so, that was up there. I saw some space and went as hard as I could and no one caught me."
