Scotland welcome Argentina to Murrayfield on Sunday (15:10), while New Zealand head down to Twickenham to face England on Saturday (15:10).

Beauden Barrett tells TNT Sports: "It was a true Test match and exactly what we prepared for.

"We have a lot of respect for this Scotland side. It wasn't an ideal second half for us but we found a way.

"We knew they were a tough defence to break down. Really difficult to penetrate."

Gregor Brown was immense, Rory Hutchinson was outstanding, Jack Dempsey different class.

You could go through them all. That's the problem - nearly all of them played exceptionally well against a New Zealand side that had three yellow cards and they still didn't win.

Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu tells Sportsound: "I told the boys we needed a reaction at half time - either we lie down or choose to go for it.

"We had nothing to lose and everything to gain. It is bitter sweet because we put them under pressure in the first half but were 17-0 down.

"We have to bounce back for next week because Argentina aren't going to make it any easier."

Of all the gutted Scotland players at the end, no-one looked more upset than Darcy Graham.

He came so close to putting Scotland in front in the second half, having the ball knocked out of his hand by Cam Roigard with the try-line beckoning.

Scotland need to go again.

This will test their resolve and their professionalism.

Scotland coach Gregor Townsend tells Sportsound: "Hard to find the words. Really disappointed. Effort that went in was all character.

"The win was there and we needed to kick on when it was 17-17. Outstanding by us but we need to win these games. We need to make that next step.

"I'd love to play New Zealand next week again, because of what we have learnt from that performance."

The damage had been done in the first half but we got back to level and then New Zealand - they've done it so many times - they squeezed the game and their composure was incredible.

Some of the best rugby I have seen from a Scotland team. I thought it was over at half time. But the power, accuracy, and ruthlessness from Scotland was incredible. Epic, epic performance.

New Zealand's match-winner and player of the match Damian McKenzie tells TNT Sports: "It was a tough old Test. The boys started well. They were on top of us for the majority of the second half, but I'm proud of how we finished off.

"Just being patient. Once we had the opportunity to hold the ball, play in the right areas of the field.

"Just a bit of luck I guess [to score at the end]. Really proud of the effort tonight."

Scotland have been here before.

So close, but so far against New Zealand.
