It was another engrossing Welsh derby here in Newport, but this time it was a victory for the west.

Dragons overpowered Scarlets last Saturday but Ospreys showed resilience to take the spoils in a topsy-turvy fixture.

There wasn't a lot to separate the sides on a night where the penalty counts were high and the driving line-outs rumbled forwards.

Meanwhile it was another win for Glasgow after they overcame Connacht at Scotstoun.

The Warriors, with a win at Munster and draw with Ulster, have made a strong start to their hunt for top spot and home advantage in the play-offs.

Back here in Wales, Dragons have one in each column now - W versus Scarlets, D at Benetton and L against Ospreys.

Mark Jones' men got their South African double-header out of the way and will now be feeling much happier after victory on Welsh soil.

They have an emotional return to St Helen's on the horizon - with Dragons the first visitors to the revamped and historic Swansea ground.

This is a game that could have gone either way and there is plenty more URC entertainment to come tomorrow.

But it is goodbye from an increasingly chilly Rodney Parade. Nos da.

  2. Man of the Match: Tom Rogers (Ospreys)published at 21:45 BST 9 October

    Dragons 31-38 Ospreys

Mr. Parry may well have had the nod himself, but instead the co-captain hands the prize over to winger Tom Rogers.

He was everywhere tonight and made some serious yards. In front of Steve Tandy too....

  3. 'We had a point to prove'published at 21:44 BST 9 October

    FT: Dragons 31-38 Ospreys

Ospreys hooker Sam Parry told S4C: "South Africa is a tough place to go and although we didn't get the results there were bits of our work we were really happy with.

"We spoke about it (Dragons). Obviously they are on a high and everybody is really happy with them so we knew we had to come up here with a big performance . We had a point to prove."

  4. 'We stood up to the challenge'published at 21:40 BST 9 October

    FT: Dragons 31-38 Ospreys

Ospreys number eight Morgan Morris told S4C:

"It's a good place to play rugby and a hard place to come and play rugby, so to come away with the win and maximum points, we are chuffed.

"Up front we really stood up to the challenge. Looking at their last two games, Dragons have been very good up front with their mauls and physicality around the park.

"Not only did we match that but we took it to another level and did them up front."

  5. Full-time: Glasgow 36-19 Connachtpublished at 21:39 BST 9 October

Dan Lancaster rounds off the scoring with a simple penalty in front of the posts in the final play as Glasgow take the bonus-point win.

It was a night for the rolling maul, with Warriors sending four of them thundering over the Connacht line. Josh McKay also scored a fabulous try.

Connacht battled hard and scored three tries of their own, but Warriors were good value for the win.

  6. Full-time: Dragons 31-38 Ospreyspublished at 21:36 BST 9 October

That's it for a captivating Welsh derby featuring plenty of driving line-outs and lots of swaps of the lead.

Ospreys get their season up and running with a first win at Rodney Parade since 2021.

    That's the game!

Ospreys get a drive going but it goes down, legally, just shy of the line.

The visitors stay calm with their carries to eat up the clock and crucially get the try that will clinch it, Morris going over for his second.

Edwards converts and Dragons are just playing for an extra bonus now.

    Dragons 28-31 Ospreys

Ospreys sneakily go for a move at the front of the line-out.

It works because Dragons are penalised for a deliberate knock-on.

No yellow card but Ospreys go into the 22 with the clock ticking...

    Dragons 28-31 Ospreys

Rio Dyer leaps high to claim the restart but Dragons cannot make a line break - or force a penalty.

Aneurin Owen puts a grubber through but it goes over the line for a drop-out.

Dragons smash at the defensive line from the next play but then are pinged for holding on.

    Morgan Morris

Dragons failed to get the ball off and it was run back by Dan Edwards, then Kieran Williams.

Ospreys get to within a metre and then the heavy boys do their stuff.

Eventually it is number eight Morgan Morris that barges over.

The touchline conversion is pushed wide by Dan Edwards.

    Eight to go now.

    Dragons 28-26 Ospreys

Dragons are pushing for another score before an absolute shocker of a pass by Angus O'Brien.

It is hacked on by Tom Rogers, then kicked on again, but Aneurin Owen gets back to cover.

It's cleared but Ospreys are coming back at Dragons...

  14. try

Try: Glasgow 33-19 Connachtpublished at 65 mins

    Seb Stephen (Con: Horne)

Glasgow waste little time in making their numerical advantage count.

Seb Stephen dusted himself off after that high shot from Josh Murphy and was in the right place at the right time to finish off yet another rolling maul for Warriors' fifth try of the night.

Long way back for Connacht now.

  15. Postpublished at 67 mins

    Dragons 28-26 Ospreys

Ospreys stop the drive this time and force Dragons to hammer away with one-out carries.

HUGE turnover by Ospreys, with possibly Morgan Morris the man to win a penalty at the breakdown.

Still in the balance here in Newport.

  16. Sin-bin: Josh Murphy (Connacht)published at 62 mins

    Glasgow Warriors 26-19 Connacht

How big a moment could that be?

Glasgow substitute Seb Stephen pounces on a loose ball from a lineout, exchanges passes with Rory Darge before breaking free up the touchline.

The hooker is absolutely wiped out by Josh Murphy, who takes him pretty high.

The referee after reviewing replays deems it foul play and shows Murphy the yellow card which will be under review.

Connacht down to 14. Might that shift the momentum back in Glasgow's favour?

  17. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Dragons 28-26 Ospreys

That could be a huge moment.

Ospreys loose control of a ruck just outside Dragons 22 and it is turned over.

Angus O'Brien bangs an absolute peach of a 50-22.

Dragons will try to get their line-out rumbling again.

They win a penalty from the first effort and will go right into the corner.

    Dragons 28-26 Ospreys

Looks like we are about to go to uncontested scrums.

Dragons lost their starting props to injury in the first half and now Chris Coleman is down with a head injury.

Hooker Elliot Dee will come on for him. I think Dragons will remain at 15 men because it is an HIA.

  19. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Dragons 28-26 Ospreys

Some tired bodies out there entering the final quarter but Ben Carter is still going strong.

The Wales lock looks sharp despite a huge carry from an interception, showing a big stride before Dragons kicked away possession.

    Game in the balance.

  20. try

Try: Glasgow 26-19 Connachtpublished at 59 mins

    Josh Ioane

    Game on!

Just when it looked like Glasgow had a firm grip on this game, Connacht have hit back with two tries to put this one right back in the melting pot.

It's really patient play as Connacht work their way into the Glasgow 22, work the home defence one way and then the other before spreading it wide for Josh Ioane to race over in the corner for his second of the night.

Big 20 minutes coming up at Scotstoun!
