Right, that'll just about do us.

  2. Glasgow have 'everything to lose' going into second legpublished at 17:15 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Glasgow Warriors 24-12 Edinburgh

Glasgow Warriors head coach Franco Smith tells BBC Scotland: "A massive, hard-fought victory. We expected Edinburgh to be up for the challenge, the way they've prepared.

"They proved it, played really well, from a defensive perspective particularly. We had so many 22m entries that we couldn't convert. They ended up prolonging our opportunities to score. We've got quite a bit to work on.

"Last week against Toulouse, we had nothing to lose. This week, we have everything to lose.

"Patience was part of the message. We wanted to create as many opportunities as possible but Edinburgh snuffed a lot of them out tonight."

  3. Everitt 'proud' despite defeatpublished at 17:12 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Glasgow Warriors 24-12 Edinburgh

Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt tells BBC Scotland: "The boys were brave defensively. We gave Glasgow enough opportunities to have a go at us, and we kept them out.

"At half time, the game was anyones. We spent the majority of the second half in their 22m and we just couldn't get over the line. Credit to Glasgow and how they defended, but we need to be better in that area of the field.

"I'm proud of the boys. We need to do more when we're on the ball and we'll look at that this week.

"It's quite a big deficit to make up, and that's why the last try hurt us. But we'll be motivated to make up the difference. We just need to be more accurate with ball in hand."

  4. Edinburgh physicality praised again by Warriorspublished at 17:08 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Glasgow Warriors 24-12 Edinburgh

Glasgow fly-half Adam Hastings tells Premier Sports: "Fair play to Edinburgh, they put up a real fight for the whole game. It was brutal exiting, but thankfully the forwards did their thing.

"It was tough on our line. The big boys defended round the side of the ruck and we got the momentum swing, and that was massive for us and our headspace. They were not leaving us alone down there, it was so annoying.

"In the second half, we managed to get through a few holes. We've got huge confidence in our fitness and Franco instills that in us.

"We know the second leg can be a bit of a ding-dong."

  5. Steyn urges Glasgow not to 'take foot off pedal' next weekpublished at 17:02 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Glasgow Warriors 24-12 Edinburgh

Winning Glasgow captain Kyle Steyn: "Nothing too interesting [was said] at half-time, we were pretty calm. It's an experienced squad, we haven't changed a lot over the last few weeks. The boys know we can do it.

"We have absolute trust over the 23, which is a really good thing.

[On next week] "Hopefully it'll be 100 [Glasgow games] for me, if I get selected. Next week is the important one. Sometimes in the last few years, we've taken our foot off the pedal."

  6. Darge praises 'unreal' Edinburgh physicalitypublished at 17:00 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Glasgow Warriors 24-12 Edinburgh

Player of the match and Glasgow Warriors flanker Rory Darge tells Premier Sports: "I loved it. I missed playing at Hampden last year, so to experience it for the first time was awesome. Edinburgh were physical and unreal today, typical derby match. We're delighted to get the win.

"Fair play to Edinburgh, they made us work really hard. They held up three times in the first half, I don't know if that was a tactic of theirs. It was outstanding defence from them.

"We've learnt over the last few years that every game is massive in the league. When you look back at the end of the year, you rue the ones you miss out on. To get the five points today is massive come the end of the season."

  7. 'Glasgow deserved winners'published at 16:51 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Glasgow Warriors 24-12 Edinburgh

    Chris Paterson
Former Scotland international on Premier Sports

Glasgow deserved to win through their superior territory and quality. They looked in control.

Edinburgh really fought hard. They're clearly behind their coach because the effort and commitment is there. They were just a little bit inaccurate around the 60-minute mark, when they had chances to get closer.

When the pressure came on Glasgow, they found the tempo and switched the play to being quicker.

Big players stand up in important moments - Dobie and Steyn on the wings had big moments that created momentum.

  8. Darge wins player of the matchpublished at 16:49 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Glasgow Warriors 24-12 Edinburgh

    John Barclay
Former Scotland captain on Premier Sports

It's not been a typical game for Glasgow, as Edinburgh have match them up front.

Rory Darge has gone through so much work, carrying the ball into the double figures and tackling well. Led really well.

In a derby, you want your big players to stand up.

  9. Full-time Glasgow Warriors 24-12 Edinburghpublished at 16:47 GMT 20 December 2025

They struggled to shake Edinburgh off in the first-half, but Glasgow showed their might in the second.

It wasn't a classic, and it wasn't the kind of performance that Chris Paterson promised us! He thought, due to the nice conditions, we'd see a lot of wide play.

Instead, it was bitty and gritty and almost all trucked up the middle. Far from a classic.

But Glasgow get the bonus point, and lead by 12 points going into next week's second leg in the 1872 Cup.

With that try, and with the yellow card, the Warriors have this one wrapped up. But they want more.

Stafford McDowall carries forward. This game will end deep in Edinburgh's half.

  11. Sin-bin Callum Hunter-Hill (Edinburgh)published at 76 mins

    Glasgow Warriors 24-12 Edinburgh

They're checking some potential foul play from Edinburgh substitute Callum Hunter-Hill. The try definitely stands.

The lock is adjudged to have led with a tucked shoulder into the ruck, after the try had scored. Tom English would call that one 'brainless'.

Adam Hastings' kick is a poor one.

Glasgow win the penalty at the restart as a result.

  12. try

    Seb Stephen

Glasgow try and power their way over the line through sub hooker Stephen, but it's just short.

It's more desperate defending from Edinburgh, but they can't keep Stephen out at the second attempt.

But hang on, they're checking something.

Now, is that a high tackle from Wes Goosen?

They're certainly having a look, but they're happy with it.

Glasgow take the throw on the 5m, anyway.

Jamie Dobie looks like he's gone over the line, but there's no celebration from the winger-for-the-day, as he loses the ball in contact under pressure from Wes Goosen.

    He knew immediately.

It comes back for the Glasgow advantage, so it's not all bad.

Remember as well, the winner of the 1872 Cup is whoever has the higher aggregate score over two games.

Edinburgh did win narrowly at Murrayfield in the second leg last year, but it wasn't by a large enough margin to overturn the 33-14 deficit from the week before.

We haven't had a draw in this game since 2011.

That was a 23-23 game at Murrayfield.

  17. converted try

Converted try Glasgow Warriors 19-12 EDINBURGHpublished at 71 mins

    Grant Gilchrist

Edinburgh have the throw on the 5m, and it's good. Harri Morris breaks off and is a yard or two short.

It's fed by Matt Currie inside to Grant Gilchrist, who stretches every inch of his enormous frame to dot the ball down.

Ross Thompson fires over, and we have a ball game again!

    Glasgow Warriors 19-5 Edinburgh

Edinburgh are down in the 22m, trying to go through the phases and play quick ball, but it's too quick for their supporting cast who can't keep up with Freddy Douglas' latest pick-and-go.

Ben Vellacott can't burry for the ball as Glasgow replacement Alex Craig jackals over it, and it's a superb steal from the big fella.

    Glasgow Warriors 19-5 Edinburgh

Some more Edinburgh changes. Ross Thompson is on, and a very grumpy-looking Duhan van der Merwe is off.

I'm trying to see where Cammy Scott is going.

Freddy Douglas is on for Dylan Richardson, the try scorer.

    Glasgow Warriors 19-5 Edinburgh

Edinburgh still have the ball in Glasgow's 22m, but they're being forced back and Cammy scott is struggling to orchestrate.

He's gone himself this time, poking a hole in Glasgow's defence, and creeping Edinburgh up the pitch. Meanwhile, Matt Davidson is on with Piers O'Conor replaced.
