As curtain closer's go that was certainly a thrilling way to bring the curtain down on day one of this year's Women's Six Nations.

Scotland come away with the win but Wales took them right to the line, pushing the game into 87 minutes with the chance to turn the game on its head in the dying seconds.

It was a hugely improved performance from Wales, the attack was world class but credit to Scotland in the second half and they found the kick space.

They showed the character from both teams and it's refreshing to see what else to come.

Meryl Smith speaking on BBC One: "We're so happy to get the win, Wales made it so hard and we didn't make it easily for ourselves also.

"To be back in blue means the world, and I've defiantly missed it and be back in the squad with the win today was the cherry on top.

"We're looking to get more expansive rugby, play a bit wider and the Welsh defensive was really strong and hitting that back with the adaptability.

"I think we didn't front up as much as we should have first half, we need to improve on that for next week in front of the home crowd.

"We need to play like we did in the second half, but it was a blow loosing Emma Orr but we adapted well."

POTM Helen Nelson speaking on BBC One: "It was a little bit tight at the end, we got our defensive play in finally.

"We talked about the back field and going after those, and tightening things up.

"Really sad to loose Emma (Orr) at the end but the bench came on and carried us over.

"We're just focusing on us, we've got a lot of experience players and young players and really connect."

Here's how things stand after the first round of the Women's Six Nations.

France's win against Italy at lunchtime puts them in top spot thanks to their points difference, ahead of England who also picked up a bonus point win against Ireland.

Scotland sit third ahead of Wales in fourth, thanks to the losing bonus point they picked up.

We said at half-time they wouldn't be happy with that first half. They really capitalised on winning the territory battle and the kicks from behind really stressed the Welsh defence.

The fly-half pulled the strings as Scotland took command after half-time and gets her just reward.

She'll wish she'd landed that last minute penalty though - the miss meant an extra few minutes of stress for away players and fans!

Both sets of players are still out on the field in post-game huddles.

There will certainly be some tired bodies out there right now with the way that game ended.

Hats off to Wales, huge improvement from the World Cup absolutely outstanding and pure theatre in the dying moments.

Helen Nelson for pure class, four from five on the boot and top carries with 16.

Both sides scored three tries apiece but it's Scotland fly-half Helen Nelson's 100% record from the kicking tee that makes the difference and gives the visitors victory.

Wales' wait for their first win in the tournament since April 2023 goes on.

Wales have a lifeline and a half as Scotland's Demi Swann is shown a yellow card in the 85th minute!

The Scots are down to 14 and Wales have an attacking line-out and one final chance.

The ball was kicked out and Scotland thought they had it won but remarkably the TMO has been called back up to check a tackle.

This isn't over yet....

The clock is deep in red but Wales are in possession and trying to find a way through Scotland's line although they are right up on their own 22.

The crowd are in full voice every time Kayleigh Powell is touching the ball.

She's showing some electric pace and the line breaks are definitely galvanising the fans who sense this one isn't over just yet despite the battle with the clock as well as the Scots.
