It was good to get some less experienced players minutes in a big game like that. That can only be a good thing going forward.

  2. 'Reacting when it is too late isn't how we want to do things'published at 22:33 GMT

    FT: France 36-14 Ireland

More from Andy Farrell on ITV: "I thought France were at times [exceptional] with the athletes they have and the power and their offloading ability in those kind of conditions, it's pretty difficult and it looks like they were playing a different game at one stage.

"Showing a bit of fight and character was what was needed, it's easier to do that when you regroup at half-time and you are already points down, but fair play to the subs who came on and got a go forward for us.

"Reacting when it is too late isn't how we want to do things but France played well. We've all been involved in this competition and know it can throw up different things so this result is not a good one for us but it has to stand for something.

"We'll be honest, we are an honest group and we'll make sure we use this in the right manner. It's a must"

Nick Timoney and Jack Conan really gave impetus. From Andy Farrell's point of view, he will be bitterly disappointed, but a few people put their hand up and said 'pick me I'll give you the physicality that was lacking first half'.

  5. 'Lack of intensity' in Irish first half - Farrellpublished at 22:27 GMT

    FT: France 36-14 Ireland

Ireland head coach Andy Farrell speaking to ITV: "There's a lot going through our minds at this moment in time, we're very disappointed, through something I never thought I'd say about this Ireland team, a lack of intensity in the first half.

"Missed tackles, missing the scraps on the ground and the ball in the air, it's just intention and if that is lacking you are not going to win any international game never mind one in Paris."

Ireland just couldn't get enough ball to threaten France. The French bench is so impactful and so was Ireland's but there was just an onslaught of power off teh France bench.

A weak Ireland team blown away by France. Big win, big shift after a decade of Irish dominance or at the worst being second. French looked very strong - for good or bad we probably saw the Six Nations decided rather earlier than normal.

    Will, London

Good performance by France, but Ireland were, for 70 minutes very, very poor. No pace on the break and too much reliance on the kicking game. Are Ireland paying for not introducing younger players and sticking with the older ones?

    Tim, Lincoln

France bigger, faster, stronger than Ireland and played with more flair. Ireland game now looks a bit outdated

Paul Marshall on BBC Radio Ulster
    Former Ireland scrum-half

France picked a fast team from 1-23 and they were so mobile and Ireland couldn't stop them.

  9. 'A joy to watch'published at 22:20 GMT

    FT: France 36-14 Ireland

France defence coach Shaun Edwards on ITV: "We're very happy. I thought our attack was fantastic and we dominated possession and territory. That's unusual against Ireland, they normally do that to their opponent.

"It [the French attack] was a joy to watch at times. You want to see it in training, it's incredible. I thought Ireland they showed they are a really good team to come back, but it was nice to get the win and the try right at the end because the fans deserved that.

"We plays Wales away next, and we know they are very organised. I know their coaches and we have to make sure we can handle that."

France are happy to run laterally to find soft shoulders and Ireland missed far too many tackles.

More from Doris speaking to ITV on what they need to improve against Italy: "It all starts with defence, we needed a strong defence and we didn't have it. Quite a few lessons learned and we are going to need to be better at home next week."

  14. 'We were too passive defensively' - Dorispublished at 22:10 GMT

    FT: France 36-14 Ireland

Ireland captain Caelan Doris speaking on ITV: "We left ourselves too tall a mountain to climb in the first half. We were too passive defensively, there were 19 missed tackles which allowed them to flourish with keeping the ball alive and their attacking game.

"The first 30 minutes we couldn't find our feet, we allowed them to get phases and score off the back. The bench made a good impact when they came on got us back into the game a bit and got our energy going so there was a bit of grit and determination in the second half. Very disappointing way to start the campaign."

Ireland gifted France too much possession and you can't be kicking so loosely to that back three

Ireland found wanting indeed. France were simply, bigger, faster, tougher and better. Reality check for Ireland and everyone I think.

    M K, Crawley

Unless Scotland produce some unlikely magic, it's the predicted two horse race

    Richard, Kent

Keep the ball in two hands, offload and attack, attack, attack. That's the type of rugby we all want to watch. Allez Les Bleus!

It's a special performance, if you dig into it there will be a lot to say. France in the second half took their foot off the gas and Ireland came back, their bench did a lot of good. It was still a satisfactory night for France.

    Ben Kay
    Former England lock on ITV

Tough for Ireland, they were completely physically outplayed those first 60 minutes.

From a French point of view, they can do it on a Thursday night knowing all the other teams in the Six Nations are watching in their hotels. They've laid down a marker.

We had about 10 minutes of the Ireland team we love to watch....this is painful to watch

    Sam, Galway

I am sure there are few Irish fans fuming with tonight's TMO decisions

    Tom, Yorkshire

Relentless and flourishing in first half, started and ended second half in similar fashion, little nervy blip in between but France have sent out an early statement tonight, what a start to the Six Nations
