Cornish Pirates coach Joe Walsh says his side can make improvements after their 40-24 loss at Worcester Warriors in Champ Rugby.

The defeat ended a five-game winning streak for the Pirates, but they did earn a try-scoring bonus point for the sixth successive game.

The loss saw Pirates slip a place to fifth in the table, eight points behind second-placed Worcester and 15 off runaway leaders Ealing Trailfinders.

"There are things that we can improve on and things that we definitely wish we would have executed better," Walsh told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"At key points in the game potentially that would have swung big moments for us, but we'll look at ourselves first and make sure we make the improvements that are going to be necessary to get some more good results."

Despite Josh King's try giving Pirates a 12th-minute lead they trailed 26-12 at half-time as the hosts ran in four scores before Dan Hiscocks pulled one back.

Khalik Kareem and Will Reed went over to extend Worcester's lead to 40-12 within 15 minutes of the restart, but the visitors fought back as Hiscocks and Harry Yates crossed to reduce the gap.

"You've got to give all credit to Worcester, they were definitely the better team on the day, they executed their plan really well," added Walsh.

"I still think on reflection we were pretty happy with our plan, it was just our own level of execution that let us down at times and a couple of errors, whether they're forced or unforced.

"We'll have a look at it, we've got a massive block of games coming up and we're on a six-day turnaround, but we're back at home next week and for us it's about trying to keep a positive home record and show a response."
