As you'd expect, Ronda Rousey took centre stage during that news conference, saying she wanted to "rewrite her ending" in her first MMA bout in 10 years against Gina Carano.

Alongside that, Rousey slammed the modern UFC, praised Dana White and Carano, and hit back at claims the bout is a “charity” fight.

We're going to park this live text here, but do look out for our full report on the BBC Sport website shortly.

    Bye for now.

    Rousey v Carano

Right then, what do you think of all that?

This quote stood out to me from Ronda Rousey earlier...

"The way things ended [in MMA] was really heartbreaking for me," said Rousey.

"She inspired me to pick myself up and to go after the fight I always wanted. This is the biggest fight in MMA right now.

"This isn’t a charity card or nostalgia card, this is the biggest fight in the world. This is fate for us."

  5. Rousey and Carano square off for first timepublished at 20:17 GMT 10 March

    Rousey v Carano

Jake Paul is stood between Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano as they face off. He'll be hoping it stays civil up there...

Rousey clenches her fists and sports a stern pose, while Carano returns a smile.

The pair embrace before being joined by Ngannou and Lins for a group pose.

Plenty of respect between all the athletes on stage tonight.

  6. Ngannou and Lins face offpublished at 20:14 GMT 10 March

    Ngannou v Lins

Alright, it's finally time for the face-offs. Up step Francis Ngannou and Philipe Lins first.

Absolutely no emotions from Ngannou, who is as cool as they come during the face-off. Lins plants his feet and instigates a closed-fist pose, which Ngannou copies, without his stern expression changing.

The pair then shake hands and walk off stage. Next up, Rousey and Carano.

  7. Paul v Ngannou next?published at 20:09 GMT 10 March

Jake Paul says he wanted to fight Francis Ngannou last year but the heavyweight refused. He chose to get knocked out by Anthony Joshua instead.

Paul also points out he lasted longer against Joshua (six rounds) than Ngannou (two rounds) did in a boxing match.

"I’m down. I’ve always been down," he says. "You ran like a duck."

Ngannou replies: "I really didn’t want to fight you but now I want to beat you. There’s a difference."

Jake Paul is on the microphone and says he wants to fight the winner of Francis Ngannou v Philipe Lins but asks each man for their prediction.

Lins: "Francis Ngannou is one of the greatest heavyweights of all time. This fight will be the biggest challenge in my career. One victory over I’m will put my name in MMA history. May 16th, live on Netflix, I am going to shock world."

Ngannou: "I think I’ll win. He brings more challenges. I think I have the tools to answer him. I watched his last fight in the UFC. He proved to be well rounded. Whatever comes to as an oppiorunity I will take him. If gives him his neck or his hand, I will grab it and finish the fight."

  9. Describe Dana White in one wordpublished at 20:08 GMT 10 March

Ronda Rousey is asked to describe her old boss, UFC's Dana White in one word, saying: "Dana White, if I could describe him in one word - I think he’s loyal to a fault. Loyal."

Each fighter is asked to reveal something not known about them, some interesting answers!

    Gina Carano: "I am married."

Ronda Rousey: “I have six sea monkey tanks and only one of them has sea monkeys in it. And there’s only two sea monkeys.”

Francis Ngannou: "I don’t give a damn about BS. That’s what actually they don’t know."

Philipe Lins: "I have a new baby girl. I’m the father of two girls."

  11. 'It's a Lord of the Rings ending' - Rouseypublished at 20:05 GMT 10 March

    Rousey v Carano

Back to Gina Carano and Ronda Rousey...

Gina Carano: "I never actually said I was retired. You can never predict what I will do, probably why I am sitting here right here, right now."

Ronday Rousey: "I guess it depends how this one goes. I really want more babies. It’s getting to a point in my life where I can’t take many more detours. When are you going to be impressed enough with yourself to be there for your family? This is me trying to rewrite my ending with Gina. Maybe it’s a Lord of the Rings ending that goes on and on, but maybe this is the grand finale."

  12. Ngannou a heavy favouritepublished at 20:02 GMT 10 March

    Ngannou v Lins

Francis Ngannou will go into the fight with Philipe Lins as a heavy favourite.

The 39-year-old Cameroonian has won his last seven fights in MMA, recording six knockouts, and has not lost since defeat by Derrick Lewis in 2018.

Brazil's Lins, 40, is a former PFL heavyweight champion, but has not won at heavyweight since 2018.

He won his last four fights in the UFC before being released by the promotion, but they were all at light-heavyweight.

Francis Ngannou says he is excited about how Netflix and MVP's foray into MMA could change the landscape of the sport.

"When I got the call about this show, I was like 'damn', I wasn't expecting this at all. I didn't see this coming at all. With the landscape it's a great opportunity here and I think many other fighters should be looking at this opportunity," said Ngannou

"If we don't fight we don't get paid, that's it. We shouldn't stay with anybody or a so-called promoter."

  14. Dana is my friend first - Rouseypublished at 19:56 GMT 10 March

    Rousey v Carano

Back to Ronda Rousey now, who is showing her support for UFC president Dana White.

"If anyone's been an apprentice in how to be a promoter, it's been me. I let Dana know before anybody else that I'd gone to Netflix and I didn't want him to be upset with me." says Rousey.

"He said 'I could never be upset with you, I want you to do great, I want you to be successful'.

"He's been my friend first before anything else and I think that most of my criticisms of the UFC now is because Dana isn't running things the way he wants because he's an employee of the company now, not the owner."

She adds: "Dana White knows the White House card sucks. I can guarantee you he’s not happy with it either."

  15. Who is Gina Carano?published at 19:55 GMT 10 March

Like Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano is known as a trailblazer for women's MMA after becoming the first woman, alongside Cris Cyborg, to headline a major MMA event.

Carano suffered defeat by the Brazilian for the Strikeforce featherweight title in 2009, before retiring from the sport having won seven of her eight professional fights.

At the height of Rousey's powers in the UFC, the promotion tried to set up a fight with Carano, but the bout never materialised.

Since then Carano has built a successful acting career but is now coming out of retirement to face Rousey for her first professional fight in 17 years.

Rousey v Carano career comparison. Fights - 14 Rousey, 8 Carano. Wins - 12 Rousey, 7 Carano. Title fights (UFC & Strikeforce) - 10 Rousey, 1 Carano. Wins by subsmission - 9 Rousey, 1 Carano. Wins by TKO - 3 Rousey, 3 Carano.

"To fight on Netflix with all these legends here, Francis Ngannou, Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano, is the biggest opportunity of my MMA career," said Lins.

"When my manager called me and said we're going to fight Francis Ngannou, I said 'sign the contract'."

  17. 'Best shape I've ever been' - Ngannoupublished at 19:49 GMT 10 March

    Ngannou v Lins

Francis Ngannou makes it clear to Ariel Helwani that he's got a lot more left in the tank after fighting Philipe Lins.

"I still have a lot of time in front of me and I enjoy this. I'm in the best shape I've ever been, in the gym every day because I enjoy it," said Ngannou.

"This is my primary job and I'm excited to go to the gym. It's the privilege of a free man, to do whatever pleases you, and if there's an opportunity to fight you fight.

"I can do this for a few years."

  19. Lins was the best option - Ngannoupublished at 19:46 GMT 10 March

    Ngannou v Lins

We're now hearing from former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who is facing Philipe Lins on 16 May.

"Two, three weeks ago I was called and offered a big name, no disrespected to Philipe, it was Rico Verhoeven," said Ngannou.

"I was like 'damn that sounds good'. But long story short, Rico gets signed to fight Oleksandr Usyk, so we were looking for a replacement and Philipe came out as the best option."

  20. 'UFC isn't about putting on the best fights now' - Rouseypublished at 19:41 GMT 10 March

    Rousey v Carano

More from Rousey who isn't a fan of the UFC under its new Paramount deal.

"I have much love and respect for Dana [White], I wanted to bring this to him first," said Rousey.

"I know I can do this on my own but I’d rather do this for you than just for me. We were going to do it on New Years, it was going to be the last fight on the pay-per-view model and I was so grateful. But Gina said she needed more time to get into the best shape possible and be the best version of herself and that was fate and meant to be.

"Once the UFC moved into the streaming model it’s not about putting on the best fights possible anymore. Unfortunately now they’ve taken the reigns of the company away from him it’s barely recognisable now. They need to be saving themselves and luckily I'm here to be their hero.”

Rousey continues, taking aim at the pay fighters get in the UFC, which has been a hot topic of late after the UFC signed a massive broadcast deal with Paramount.

For reference under 20% of the UFC's revenue goes towards fighter pay, while in boxing, fighters can expect to recieve as much as 60% of event revenue.

"It used to be that UFC was the best place that you could come in combat sports to make a living and be paid fairly and now it’s one of the worst places to go," Rousey said.

"It’s why so many of their top athletes are leaving to go and find pay elsewhere.

"These people, a lot of them at the ground level, they can’t support their families. They’re living poverty-level fighting full-time. This company just got $7.7 billion dollars.

"There’s no reason that they can’t afford to pay their athletes at least a living wage and not even that, to at least be able to match what these athletes are making in other sports.

"Why would they expect to get the best athletes and the best inspiring kids that want to be something into MMA? Why not go into football?

"Why not go into boxing? Why not go into anything else? So they’re bleeding talent because of their short-term greed. They’re thinking about the next quarter.

"They’re thinking about the shareholders. They’re not thinking about their responsibility to be stewards of the future of the sport."
