  3. 'Nowhere near good enough in the final third'published at 22:44 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Hibernian 0-2 Ross County

"I don't think it was lack of effort," Hibs boss Lee Johnson tells BBC Sportsound. "We huffed and puffed but there was a severe lack of quality, lack of decision making.

"It was a very good away performance that did a job on us and that's really disappointing. We believe that the squad as a whole has more quality than we have shown in recent performances, although we haven't always had the best quality we have out on the pitch.

"There will be criticism and that's fair. At the end of the day, we all want to do well for Hibs, so we need to come out fighting against Kilmarnock.

"We were nowhere near good enough in the final third. We let them off the hook far too many times with poor crossing.

"In training it's good but for some reason in games it's not happening. I think it's down to a bit of everything. It's about timing, technique, quality, a bit of disruption and not enough players are on their game - and obviously I haven't performed well either - I take the brunt of that.

"We have let the supporters down. There have been some decent performances in some of the losses but there's a fragility in the goals we have conceded and we have to get through to the winter break and have the opportunity to get players back from injury. Until then we need to be more resolute than we've been."

  4. 'We're still a young side with lots of developing to do'published at 22:38 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Livingston 2-1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin on Sportsound: "In this league you cannot start games slow", he says. "I can't put my finger on it, we simply weren't at the races in the opening 20 minutes.

"Livingston looked hungrier than us, they did the basics better, and managed to get a two goal lead. It's very difficult to claw that back, but the second half performance was outstanding as far as I'm concerned.

"We had more shots tonight that what we've had in the last four or five games, and that's where you scratch your head really. We couldn't find a way to break Livingston down and find that equaliser.

"It was a strange game. Livingston deserved to get the lead, but second half we've completely controlled the game. It's not one of those evening where I need to apologise to the supporters for lack of effort. The first 20 minutes was unacceptable, but the second 45 was exceptional.

"I thought the subs that came on made a real difference. We started to win our individual battles, picked up more second balls and I'm scratching my head how we haven't come away with something.

"We have to get the balance right between being a good footballing side like you saw in the second 45 tonight, where we're playing good passing football and creating opportunities, to then being a bit more solid defensively.

"Whether we need to come up with a different plan when we're on the road, maybe we are too open, but I would rather play the game we are and trying to entertain. We're working hard, we know we've got a lot to do. We're still a young side with lots of developing to do.

"I want my teams to be disciplined, organised and hard to beat."

  5. 'Mackay digging deep into knowledge and experience'published at 22:31 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Hibernian 0-2 Ross County

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen captain on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

Malky Mackay has taken a gamble to resurrect his career in Dingwall. He's had to dig deep into his knowledge and experience because everything is a challenge at the club

  6. 'County performance quietens Easter Road'published at 22:26 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Hibernian 0-2 Ross County

Ross County manager Malky Mackay tells Sportsound: "I'm delighted for the players because they've been playing so well for the last few weeks and not quite getting the rewards.

"To keep a clean sheet and score twice is great and so is the bravery we showed in the first half to get on the ball so much shows the confidence they have.

"We made the place quiet and that helps us.

"Victor Loturi is still adapting to the intensity of the Scottish game and you can see his calmness in possession, while he had to do the ugly stuff in the second half."

  7. 'We were a bit fortunate' - Martindalepublished at 22:20 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Livingston 2-1 Aberdeen

Victorious Livingston manager David Martindale has been talking to Sportsound:

"In the first half we were value for money", he said. "Obviously Shamal [George] saves a penalty. We took a huge risk playing Shamal tonight, because he's got a slight thigh injury - I thought he was fantastic, came up with some top saves and kept us in the game.

"Aberdeen put us under huge pressure in the second half, obviously they're chasing the game at that point and needing to find two goals. Their tactics and intensity changed, we never got to grips with it.

"We limited Aberdeen to very little inside our box, it was crossed balls from wide areas. They go up the road feeling it's a bit unjust that they've not taken anything from the game, but you've got to score goals to win games of football.

"At the end of the season, no-one's going to see how you win the three points. We were a bit fortunate, but our keeper pulled off some big saves which is probably the difference in the game.

"It's hard for the officials. We need to be clever and not venture into the territory where every handball in the area is a penalty. That seems to be where we are. If the consistency is there, that's all you can really ask for."

  8. A busy night at the VAR monitorpublished at 22:14 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Livingston 2-1 Aberdeen

Three VAR penalties in West Lothian this evening... All for handball and all missed by referee Nick Walsh in real time.

A good advert for the new system? It certainly looks that way, but are officials already relying on it too much and hesitating to make on-field decisions?

  9. 'Ordinary season beckons unless Aberdeen fix away problems'published at 22:11 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Livingston 2-1 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen captain on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

That first half hour needs to be addressed and if it can be then I'm still really hopeful for Aberdeen, but if away form doesn't change then it's just going to be an ordinary season

  10. 'Livingston are such a strong unit'published at 22:07 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Livingston 2-1 Aberdeen

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

Livingston accepted that they were giving up the wide areas and when it's coming in they are winning the headers or putting pressure on the ball. They are such a strong unit and have such belief in what they do

  11. 'Bloated squad with no identity'published at 22:03 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Hibernian 0-2 Ross County

    Michael Stewart
    Former Hibernian midfielder on Sportsound

    Quote Message

The squad at Easter Road is too big, it doesn't have a great deal of soul or identity and that is a major issue. They've brought in a cast of thousands and you can rattle off a long list of players who offer very little

  12. 'Dons pay for lacklustre opening'published at 21:59 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Livingston 2-1 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen captain on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

You cannot come to a place like this and think it's going to be easy and that's how it looked for Aberdeen in the first half hour. They were lacklustre, no energy, and it could have been four or five to Livingston

  13. 'Hibs lacking in substance'published at 21:56 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Hibernian 0-2 Ross County

    Michael Stewart
    Former Hibernian midfielder on Sportsound

    Quote Message

That performance sums Hibs up. There's no doubt the squad has ability but I don't see much substance - and that will be a big concern for supporters.

  14. 'Livingston hang on after second-half battering'published at 21:52 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Livingston 2-1 Aberdeen

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at Tony Macaroni Arena

It is a precious back-to-back victory for Livingston earned by a fabulous opening half hour then aided by some incredible wastefulness by Aberdeen.

The visitors missed several glaring chances as they increasingly took control.

Despite that, David Martindale's side draw level on points with their opponents in third place, though Jim Goodwin will wonder how on earth he didn't pick up at least a share of the spoils.

The main reason was an inept start that took way too long to improve, with Livingston rampant in those stages. Things completely turned on their head with home fans increasingly anxious as the clock ticked on.

I've not even mentioned the three VAR interventions that led to three penalties in what was a pulsating contest.

It's another frustrating away trip for the Dons but Livingston will revel in this lofty position with just one game left before the World Cup break.

  15. 'Controlled and pretty comfortable for County'published at 21:49 GMT 8 November 2022

    FT: Hibernian 0-2 Ross County

    Michael Stewart
    Former Hibernian midfielder on Sportsound

    Quote Message

Ross County deserved the win. As soon as they got in front, Hibs huffed and puffed and there was a feeling of inevitability about the visitors sucking it up and seeing the game out. It was controlled and pretty comfortable

  16. FULL-TIME Livingston 2-1 Aberdeenpublished at 21:45 GMT 8 November 2022

That is a superb rearguard action from Livingston, who fight their way to a priceless win.

Aberdeen's poor away form continues - they will look back with regret on a game that they dominated after getting the runaround in the opening 20 minutes.

Livi are up to fourth, level on points with the Dons.

  17. Postpublished at 21:42 GMT 8 November 2022

    Livingston 2-1 Aberdeen

Jim Goodwin's side have thrown everything at Livingston in this second half, but just have not been able to force an equaliser.

Aberdeen have had 10 shots in the second 45, Livi have had none.

    Time is almost up...

  18. FULL-TIME Hibernian 0-2 Ross Countypublished at 21:38 GMT 8 November 2022

Ross County make it back-to-back league wins for the first time since March and move up to 10th place.

Hibs slump to a fifth loss in six and drop to sixth.

The match possession and shots stats make it look like a smash and grab but the home side were absolutely toothless in attack and soft at the back.

County had little trouble keeping Hibs at bay and tucked away their chances.

  19. CLOSE!published at 21:37 GMT 8 November 2022

    Livingston 2-1 Aberdeen

Duk has been Aberdeen's best player by miles tonight, and he is the man Jim Goodwin would have wanted this chance to fall to.

The Cape Verde international gets in front of his man to latch onto Bojan Miovski's flick, but can only spoon his shot over the bar.

Ross County replacement Kazeem Olaigbe breaks free but can only plant a stoppage-time shot straight at David Marshall.
