  1. Good nightpublished at 22:54 BST 6 September 2022

    FT: Celtic 0-3 Real Madrid

That's all for tonight. Celtic started well, but it ended up a comfortable evening for Real Madrid, who shrugged off the early loss of Karim Benzema to run away with the game in the second half.

There's no disgrace in losing to the European champions but it leaves Celtic needing to take something from away ties against Shakhtar or RB Leipzig.

Ange Postecoglou sounded very downbeat talking to the media there.

His team need to go again at home to Livingston on Saturday and then it's round two of the Champions League group fixtures and a trip to Warsaw to take on Shakhtar Donetsk next Wednesday.

"I feel the responsibility of bringing the club to this level, that's what these fans deserve," continues Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

"There's no starker reminder than the reception they gave us after the game. They deserve to see their club competing against the likes of Real Madrid on a regular basis.

"Every game is going to be hard, it's the Champions League. I don't think the next game is going to be any different. We've just got to make sure we end up on the positive side of the ledger."

  4. 'Celtic punished for not taking chances'published at 22:37 BST 6 September 2022

    FT: Celtic 0-3 Real Madrid

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says: "Obviously disappointed with the outcome. I thought the first goal was always going to be important and up until that point we were well in the game. If anything, we had the better chances and you need to capitalise on them and we didn't.

"Once the first goal went in they've go that quality to take control of the game, they pressed on and were able to exploit the spaces we left.

"Up until the 60th minute mark when they scored we were well in the game, but you learn at this level that if you don't take your chances you'll be punished."

And that makes it a first win at Celtic Park for Carlo Ancelotti after three previous attempts with AC Milan.

"We were worried for this game because we knew what they did against Rangers," he adds in his media conference. "We suffered in the first half and it is absolutely normal to suffer here."

  6. 'Second half, we had control' - Ancelottipublished at 22:28 BST 6 September 2022

    FT: Celtic 0-3 Real Madrid

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti tells BT Sport: "It was like two games, first half we suffered a bit with intensity, second half we had control.

"We were not surprised [with Celtic's start]. We knew they could start really fast. We were lucky because they hit the post.

"Second half, was much better. When we opened to scoring it was easier for us to control the ball."

It was exhibition stuff in the end from Modric and Real as a whole. But Celtic can walk off with their heads held high. They were inches off going 1-0 up and it might've been a different game

  8. An unforgiving arenapublished at 22:21 BST 6 September 2022

    FT: Celtic 0-3 Real Madrid

The brutal truth is that since the famous win over Barcelona in 2012, Celtic have played 10 Champions League group-stage home games and won just one, losing eight.

They will need to be sharper in front of goal when RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk come to town.

Celtic will be hoping Real run away with this group and leave the others scrapping it out.

That's just a little taster for Celtic, playing against the best of the best. They can be pleased with their performance against the champions of Europe.

  10. 'We belong at this level' - McGregorpublished at 22:16 BST 6 September 2022

    FT: Celtic 0-3 Real Madrid

Celtic captain Callum McGregor tells BT Sport: "It was really enjoyable. Ultimately it's disappointing to lose three goals at home.

"It was a great showing from the lads, we've been building towards that belief. We trust ourselves and trust the manager.

"There was enough in the game to show we belong at this level. We took the game to Madrid. We had a 10-15 minute spell where we lost concentration and that's why they're the holders, the quality they have on the counter."

On his first-half strike that crashed off the woodwork: "I don't know how it stayed out. When you see it clip the inside of the post you think it's going in but it wasn't to be."

A lot of chat about Luka Modric, but what about his midfield partner Toni Kroos?

The German maestro attempted 124 passes, completing 119. One of those was a beauty to set up goal number three.

Callum McGregor led those stats for Celtic with 59.

A quite incredible result brewing in Group F's other game. The Ukranian champions - shorn of pretty much all of their foreign stars and with a young team - are taking Leipzig apart.

Celtic travel to Warsaw to face Shakhtar next.
