Speaking to BBC Sportsound Callum Davidson says his side were on the end of a "horrendous" refereeing decision.

"I'm really pleased with how the players reacted to a horrendous decision," he said. "We probably let it affect us against St Mirren when we had a horrendous one against us there too.

“First half we came in not quite knowing what to expect, I thought we were the better side. I thought second-half we didn't play quite as well.

"Conceding these really soft penalties is so frustrating.

"The players tonight gave me everything they had, we had to make four changes in the game through injuries and the players dealt with it really well."

  3. 'Aberdeen frustrated not to win'published at 22:08 GMT 15 February 2022

    FT: Aberdeen 1-1 St Johnstone

Aberdeen interim manager Barry Robson tells BBC Scotland: "We got caught trying to play a bit cuter and trying to play clever in the first half, but we still have two or three great chances. Second half we totally controlled the game. We had a lot of chances. We're frustrated not to win the game.

"We really grew into the game and there was a great energy about us. We played on a real heavy pitch at the weekend and the legs were draining but they kept fighting.

"What I have found out is the players are willing to work and willing to try and win football matches. And on another day we could have scored a right few goals."

The result does move Aberdeen up the Scottish Premiership table slightly; they edge above Livingston into eighth on goal difference.

They remain two points behind Jim Goodwin's St Mirren, who have played a game less.

For St Johnstone they remain bottom. They do close the gap on Dundee, but have played a game more.

The first-half was a very open affair but it became scrappy as it went on. Aberdeen's youngsters Calvin Ramsay and Connor Barron were excellent. Callum Davidson will likely be happy when he reflects on this one, the injury to Zander Clark will be his main concern. Elliot Parish did make a good account of himself with some big saves, though.

I thought Aberdeen were quite bright in the first half, down the right-hand side they were strong. The disruptions to both teams stopped the natural flow of the game and then St Johnstone had something to hang on to as the second-half went on, and they did that for a while with a lot of discipline. Aberdeen weren't as good in the second-half, it got pretty scrappy.

  7. Injury worries for both sidespublished at 21:50 GMT 15 February 2022

    FT: Aberdeen 1-1 St Johnstone

Both sides have injury worries after the game..

Aberdeen lost Scott Brown to what looked like a hamstring injury, with Jack Mackenzie also going off early in the second half. Declan Gallagher was replaced at half-time although it will be interesting to hear from interim boss Barry Robson if that was tactical or if he also took a knock.

St Johnstone lost goalkeeper Zander Clark in the first half to what also looked to be a hamstring injury. His depute Elliot Parish did well in his absence though.

It's a point each at Pittodrie.

Callum Hendry gave St Johnstone an early lead, before a Lewis Ferguson penalty restored parity.

Aberdeen will be the more disappointed based on the second half chances that they had.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:39 GMT 15 February 2022

    Aberdeen 1-1 St Johnstone

    Big save from Eilliot Parish.

Calvin Ramsay's corner is knocked on to Lewis Ferguson who drives in at the back post to meet it with a bullet header, but Parish blocks his effort.

    And that will be that.

    Close for Aberdeen.

Calvin Ramsay does well to hold onto the ball on the right under pressure from two Saints players, and plays a great ball into the back post, but Lewis Ferguson can't angle his body right and heads over the bar.

An Aberdeen corner kick is palmed away by St Johnstone goalkeeper Elliot Parish.

A long throw-in comes back into the box, Jamie McCarts heads it away and is injured as he does it, and the referee has to stop the game for a head knock.

Aberdeen are on the attack again but Adam Montgomery's pass is poor, and St Johnstone can break.

James Brown plays a ball forward and is then furious at Stevie May for not making the run he had anticipated.

St Johnstone get another chance. Glenn Middleton gets the ball in space but his shot is wild and well over.

There could be another goal in this, and it's anyone's guess who is going to get it.

It's Aberdeen's turn to threaten again, but despite a lot of the ball in and around the St Johnstone box, they can't find a shooting opportunity.

The game will start to get stretched now, it'll be a bit more open. That Middleton chance was just a little warning there for Aberdeen of how open it may be.

David Bates has to make a great challenge to deny Glenn Middleton.

The St Johnstone man had driven into the box but slowed and hesitated on his shot, and Bates slid in to take the ball away from him.

But Aberdeen have some defending tro do from a corner and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas heads it off the line.
