And so ends the Premier League in 2021.

We're also ending our coverage for the evening.

Don't worry, though, we'll be back on the first day of a brand new year on Saturday for more of this madness.

    We go again.

    Night all.

  2. 'It is about passion and energy'published at 22:58 GMT 30 December 2021

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick talking to BBC: "It was important to bring in some fresh legs and fresh bodies.

"We did not have much time to train in the last couple of weeks. It is about passion and energy and we show that when we play at home.

"This is about sustainably delivering that type of performance."

  3. 'We need to add the details'published at 22:55 GMT 30 December 2021

    FT: Man Utd 3-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is not just about them, it is about us. We wanted to come with the right mentality and to take the game on. I think we did. We created chances. Really soft goals to concede. Two of them we could have got a block on them and that is my only real gripe as a lot of the performance was bright tonight.

"I thought we had a good handle of the first-half, considering it is Old Trafford and it is hard to come here. We ask a lot of our players and I always put pressure on them as I expect more. If we get those blocks on, it is a tight first-half. We scored a good goal. Second-half we can get out mentality right. It is tough, but you can't make it soft by conceding those goals."

On the Covid and injury situation: "Yeah, it is tricky, but everyone has problems at the moment. The players have adapted to that challenge. The mentality and physicality was good. I don't want to go too much down that road as everyone has different challenges at the moment. We have a couple we are pretty confident are coming back."

On looking forward to 2022: "I am always proud of the side, but we are not getting the details right at the moment. As a collective, I can't ask for more as they have a great mentality. There is a lot of good, but we need to add the details."

  4. 'I wouldn't say fourth is the minimum'published at 22:52 GMT 30 December 2021

    FT: Man Utd 3-1 Burnley

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick talking to Amazon Prime: "As expected it was a very tough physical game against a team who play very physical. We also showed the qualities we have in our team. It was important today to raise the energy level.

"The whole team performance was a lot better, I was pleased with the performances of our wingers. Jadon did well and Mason. Eddie and Cristiano, the work effort was amazing.

"I wouldn't say fourth is the minimum. It is about taking next development steps. Now eight games in a row without a defeat. It is about taking next steps.

"My focus is on the current players and we have enough players in the squad. Transfers in the winter only make sense if they increase the quality. So far we haven't spoken about that."

  5. Goal droughts overpublished at 22:50 GMT 30 December 2021

    FT: Man Utd 3-1 Burnley

It was a day for players to end long spells without a goal.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay scored his first goal in 28 Premier League games (since netting v Everton in February), with eight of his 11 league goals for the Red Devils coming at Old Trafford, including each of his last seven.

Burnley’s Aaron Lennon netted his first goal in 33 Premier League appearance, since scoring for the Clarets against Bournemouth in September 2018, with the goal also the winger’s first against Manchester United in the top-flight in his 23rd game against them.

  6. 'Go back to basics'published at 22:46 GMT 30 December 2021

    FT: Man Utd 3-1 Burnley

    Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay talking to BBC Sport: "We need to do more and hopefully in 2022 we can do that.

"It is about adapting to new methods. We have to go back to the basics of football. We have to tackle, we have to run, we have to create.

"If we are not running and competing in the first 15 minutes it is going to be difficult, no matter what the quality of our forward players.

"An old cliche in football. We are going through a transitional period, we can't look too far ahead in terms of ambitions and goals.

"We want to enjoy football, there is too much negativity, and if you enjoy it you will end up playing well."

  7. 'The details are killing us'published at 22:40 GMT 30 December 2021

    FT: Man Utd 3-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche, speaking to Amazon Prime: "We've been here a couple of times and had big results here and not had nowhere near the amount of chances we have had tonight. The frustration is that we could have made blocks on the edge of the box and we didn't and they react and get a goal. It is obviously hard when they are 3-1 up but I thought the mentality was good. Second half we took the game on and tried to get something from it.

"I was pleased with the performance generally. I don't think the 18 days off is one of those things. We have to deal with it. We are a bit stretched with Covid and injuries but we have a team that can go out there. Aaron Lennon was good. Looked sharp and did what we wanted him to do. The details are killing us at the moment."

On Covid and injuries: "We intend on getting on with things. A couple of bodies might come back because of the Covid situation and Maxwell Cornet might get around the squad. We will wait and see."

On transfers: "We will have to wait and see. The January window is always difficult, money or no money."

Mike Connolly: Only real enjoyable part of that was Scotty’s performance. Aside from that we’re still painfully dull

Nick Rodely: McTominay for Man of the Match. Terrific performance tonight.

Bob Moss: Burnley should have got something out of this game, if only they had someone who can actually kick the ball in the penalty area and not do air shots.

  10. 'You have to take your chances'published at 22:30 GMT 30 December 2021

    FT: Man Utd 3-1 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley's Aaron Lennon talking to Amazon Prime: "We started well, gave away three bad goals and then got a goal back and had a few good chances. When you come to Old Trafford you know you have to take your chances.

"We haven't played for three weeks and there was a bit of rustiness there. We will dust ourselves down and go again.

"We have a few games in hand and we are really confident in what we do."

  11. 'I was struggling this morning'published at 22:21 GMT 30 December 2021

    FT: Man Utd 3-1 Burnley

    Manchester United

Man Utd midfielder Scott McTominay, speaking to Amazon Prime: "Probably first-half as a team [best display under Rangnick]. We were a bit flat second-half for whatever reason. We need to get that for a full 90 minutes which we haven't really had this year. But we are learning and adapting. The game against Newcastle was difficult and we have to bounce back from that. The manager said we set the record for the most amount of turnovers in the league. We had to keep the ball better.

"Goals help energy. If we bang in two or three at Newcastle it gives the whole team energy. It is so important. Now is the time we really start stepping up and doing much, much better. The manager is so demanding and we play for Man Utd, it is what we have to do.

"A lot of the time this season I have been deeper. Last season I could get to the box more. I was struggling this morning to play with my right foot but I pulled through it. I am fine. We are all learning an adapting. We play for Man Utd, we are dominant and we need to get results.

"Body language is one thing and the manager has come in and said he wants to cut that out, so that is final. We have taken it on board.

"It is the old cliche but we don't want to look too far ahead,. The next game against Wolves is the most important thing."
