  2. What's coming up on Sportscene tonight?published at 14:53

    FT: St Johnstone 1-2 Rangers

    Steven Thompson
Former Scotland striker on Sportscene's plans

"Predictably, from the Celtic game, we'll have a Mikey Johnston pack [Johnston scored a double in Celtic's 3-0 win at home to Dundee yesterday].

"From Aberdeen v Hearts yesterday, we'll take a look at striker Sam Cosgrove. We'll also look at the penalty incidents [at Pittodrie] for Hearts. Craig Levein made a point of it after the match and I think he has a case."

Sportscene will be broadcast on BBC Two Scotland at 18:00 tonight.

  3. 'We'll win more if we play like that' - Craigpublished at 14:49

    FT: St Johnstone 1-2 Rangers

St Johnstone midfielder Liam Craig: "In terms of Matty Kennedy causing their two centre-halves problems, he did that. And took his goal really well.

"Throughout the game, we've had the better chances. They put two good balls into the box and that's what [Alfredo] Morelos does.

Liam Craig believes St Johnstone created the better chances

"Against Hibs the other night he couldn't score; he gets two chances today and takes the two of them.

"Disappointing, but we know that if we can play like that, more often than not we'll win games."

  4. 'We deserved to win' - Saints keeperpublished at 14:36

    FT: St Johnstone 1-2 Rangers

St Johnstone goalkeeper Zander Clark: "I think that for the effort we put in, we probably deserved to win the game.

"They [Rangers] had more clear-cut chances but it's frustrating when you end up coming away from it with the defeat."

Zander Clark believes St Johnstone should have won the game

Regarding his impressive display in the second half at McDiarmid Park, Clark said: "It's the stuff that you work on in training.

"You need to be ready; it was a quieter first half but second half, you just need to be mentally prepared for what's going to come your way."

  5. Gerrard 'concerned' at 'awful' first halfpublished at 14:30

    FT: St Johnstone 1-2 Rangers

Steven Gerrard says he did not celebrate the second goal, because he was still thinking about the "awful" first half.

He told BT Sport: "The first 45 mins I wasn’t happy. We were awful. I let my feeling be known very clear at half-time. To be fair in the second half they had more bravery, belief, character.

"The first half, it couldn’t have been any worse. They [St Johnstone] were the ones who looked like they fancied the title race.

"I’m still thinking of the first half, I'm thinking of the big picture. That first half concerned me."

Rangers now host Hibs on Boxing Day, then Old Firm rivals Celtic on 29 September.

Gerrard said: "We’ve got two huge games but this was just as big. I've made it clear to the players we can’t turn up here and play half-hearted. It’s a learning curve from today."

  6. 'We haven't defended two crosses' - Wrightpublished at 14:25

    FT: St Johnstone 1-2 Rangers

St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright: "We haven't defended two crosses, which we're [normally] good at.

"To be fair, I think young Jason [Kerr] slips and Morelos gets in just ahead of him. So, the manner of the goals [we conceded] are disappointing, but not the manner of the performance.

"I can't praise them highly enough. We were controlled and had the balance right throughout the game between defence and attack.

"We looked a real threat and, even at 1-1, we had a great chance through Blair [Alston] who heads over the bar. Unfortunately, it doesn't go in, then they go up the pitch and score.

"That's the standard they [St Johnstone players] have to maintain. If we do that, then we can still have a very good season."

    Tom English

Four points separating the top four in Scotland after 18/19 games. Eight points between first and fourth in Spain, 11 points in England and Germany, 17 points in France and 21 points in Italy. Celtic may pull away, but this is healthy and exciting...

  9. 'You have to give Rangers credit' - Doddspublished at 14:12

    FT: St Johnstone 1-2 Rangers

    Billy Dodds
    Former Scotland striker on Sportsound

"I really enjoyed it [the game] and credit to both teams. St Johnstone, in the first half, balanced between defence and attack, were brilliant.

"Rangers didn't look like finding a way through, and they were predictable. Then, suddenly, they make the change [Kyle Lafferty's introduction] and the two up front caused St Johnstone problems.

"Rangers kept probing and dominating possession. You have to give Rangers credit as their first half wasn't great."

  10. FULL-TIME St Johnstone 1-2 Rangerspublished at 14:07

What a game in Perth. St Johnstone looked fairly comfortable following Matty Kennedy's wonderstrike, but an Alfredo Morelos-inspired comeback sees Rangers go second in the Premiership - a point behind league leaders Celtic.

GOAL St Johnstone 1-2 Rangerspublished at 88 mins

    Alfredo Morelos

It's been on the cards. Rangers are rewarded for a much-improved second half display as Alfredo Morelos is perfectly placed to fire home James Tavernier's cross with St Johnstone's defence all-at-sea.

Morelos' double - to take his tally for the season to 19 - sees Rangers lead for the first time, and moving in on second place in the Premiership, a point behind leaders Celtic.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 87 mins

    St Johnstone 1-1 Rangers

Blair Alston is booked for chopping down Andy Halliday. Rangers can't profit from the free kick; play then rages up the other end as Alston attempts to turn saint after sinner.

However, his header from Richard Foster's cross sails over the bar.

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 86 mins

    St Johnstone 1-1 Rangers

Zander Clark is at it again! The St Johnstone keeper gets down well to deny Kyle Lafferty's header from Glenn Middleton's corner.

Clark is putting together a highlights reel in this second half.

Echoes of Gandalf's "Thou shall not pass" in Lord of the Rings.

  15. Matty Finished...published at 13:57

    St Johnstone 1-1 Rangers

A substitution to tell you about: St Johnstone goal hero Matty Kennedy scuttles off to be replaced by Danny Swanson.

You'd imagine Kennedy will sleep well tonight after that heroic shift up front for the hosts.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 82 mins

    St Johnstone 1-1 Rangers

What a save! Zander Clark may have been forgiven for thinking of his Christmas dinner, such was his inactivity, but he's produced a number of incredible saves.

The latest sees him brilliantly beat away a Kyle Lafferty volley following a clever knock down by Connor Goldson.

The bearded keeper has been flying through the Perth sunshine with no little gusto...

  17. McGregor mistakepublished at 81 mins

    St Johnstone 1-1 Rangers

Almost a festive howler from Rangers keeper Allan McGregor as he comes to claim a St Johnstone cross but his attempted punch comes off his gloves and out for a corner.

Looked like the ball shot off the gloves like they were covered in festive goose fat; but Rangers survived the incident and subsequent set piece.

  18. Matt Finishpublished at 79 mins

St Johnstone had the advantage following Matty Kennedy's cracking strike on the cusp of half-time, before Alfredo Morelos restored parity.

    St Johnstone 1-1 Rangers

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is far from a happy camper. Following Zander Clark's heroics to deny a second Rangers goal, Wright roared, Gerard Butler 300-style, from the edge of his technical area for his troops to tighten up.
