Rangers' win over St Mirren took Steven Gerrard's side up to third in the Premiership table, but can they finish the weekend there?

Kilmarnock host Aberdeen and Steve Clarke's Ayrshire outfit can move back above the Ibrox side with at least a draw.

But Derek McInnes' Dons will be desperate for three points that would take them above Livingston in seventh.

It's been a long day, starting off with Rangers' win over St Mirren thanks to two late goals from Daniel Candeias and Alfredo Morelos.

The win didn't leave Steven Gerrard totally happy as the Rangers manager described the sending off of Candeias after the second goal as "embarrassing".

His comments were made after viewing an exchange with St Mirren defender Anton Ferdinand that led to a second yellow card.

There's a change at the top in League Two, with long-time leaders Edinburgh City being overhauled by Peterhead.

Two early Derek Lyle goals were enough to give Jim McInally's side a narrow win over managerless bottom side Albion Rovers.

Peterhead move a point about City, with John Rankin's goal in Edinburgh ending Clyde's three-game run of defeats to move the Cumbernauld side up to third.

The Bully Wee move above Annan Athletic, who were held to a 0-0 draw away to Queen's Park.

Hamilton manager Martin Canning tells BBC Scotland: "Over the course of the game, there wasn't much between the teams.

"Livingston put a lot of balls into your box and you have to defend that well if you're going to beat them.

"The whole plan today was to try and hit them on the break.

"Big Mason [Bloomfield], he's had a tough time, he's not played as much as he would have liked.

"But he's done well today and that's a big three points for the team."

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson hails "a terrific strike" from David Turnbull, who was the Steelmen's match-winner against struggling Dundee.

"When David hits the ball, he hits it properly, so we were screaming out for him to shoot," he tells BBC Sportsound. "He's a young man with a massive future, a lot of potential."

On securing a first home win of the season in the league, Robinson adds: "I thought it was a thoroughly deserved victory.

"We dominated the game. We created three or four really good chances and we should have won by more.

"A lot of people showed courage and composure and I'm really chuffed for them. That's two clean sheets and two victories now."

Arbroath remain seven points clear at the top of League One thanks to Michael McKenna's winner at home to in-form East Fife.

Raith Rovers move four points clear of the Fifers in second thanks to Kevin Nisbet's double against managerless Brechin.

Dumbarton's mini-revival under new manager Jim Duffy was halted by a 1-0 defeat away to Montrose and the hosts swap places with the visitors at the bottom of the table.

Indeed, Stewart Petrie's side move up to sixth.

Hibernian assistant coach Garry Parker didn't pull any punches with his assessment of today's display.

"It wasn’t a good performance," he tells BBC Scotland. "We were very poor today. We created nothing going forward.

"We made poor decisions. I’ve never seen the team pass to the opposition so much. Terrible.

"Individual mistakes, decision-making, everything – there was nothing there."

Livingston head coach Gary Holt tells BBC Scotland: "It's a kick in the teeth, it's as simple as that.

"We had great chances in the game. I think we dominated for large spells.

"We got done with a sucker punch and we need to be wiser, we need to be cleverer, we need to be a bit more cynical at times because that's an opportunity late in the game where you have to take one for the team as they say and you bring the boy down and then we deal with the repercussions from there.

"You can't let someone break and get a free shot and they win the game, which is unjust on us."

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has now led his team to four straight victories without conceding a goal - despite missing three penalties along the way.

"Overall, we just about deserved it," he tells BBC Scotland of today's win in Leith.

"The key in it all has been hard work and that’s been the constant thing they’ve done.

"We’ve more quality, a lot of quality, and I think you saw that today. The Hibs fans were pretty quiet.

"We played some good football and I’m really pleased. They are a good squad and that is a massive result for us – anybody coming here and winning is a massive result."

Dundee manager Jim McIntyre is looking on the bright side after his fourth successive loss since taking over from Neil McCann.

"That's more like how I want us to play," he tells BBC Sportsound. "I thought we got into some great positions and the final ball was wasteful.

"I don't know how many crosses we put into the box, but we need to do better when we get into that last third.

"In terms of application and organisation, it was far, far better and it took a wonder-strike to beat us.

"Credit to the team, they kept going and put Motherwell under a lot of pressure at the end."

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was purring with his side's performance in beating Premiership leaders Hearts so comprehensively.

"Today typified our achievements over the past two and half years," he tells BBC Scotland.

"We've been in European competition playing really difficult games and to produce what we've produced today shows our hunger and a sense that the team's back. Some of our attacking combination play was unbelievable.

"I think we're getting back to the level we want to be at. We're getting our flow back and aggressive going forward.

"When you win games, it gives you confidence, but we really look forward to our game here in the Europa League."

A first home win of the season for Stephen Robinson’s Motherwell, five defeats on the bounce for Dundee, four of which have come since Jim McIntyre took the reins.

This was an improved performance from the visitors but a similar outcome.

Hearts manager Craig Levein has blamed himself for his side's thumping at Celtic Park.

"The manager's not the brightest," he tells BBC Scotland. "I made a decision today to try and frustrate Celtic and try and hit them on the counter-attack, but we were far too passive and I got it wrong.

"I felt actually, although we lost two goals in the second-half, I actually felt much better.

"To be fair to them, they ran their socks off and put in a much better performance.

"Rather than try to be clever next time, I'll just leave it as is. It's my fault, I apologise to the supporters."

Celtic are firing on all cylinders. It's top form from Celtic, opening teams up at will.

It's difficult to see how any other teams are going to deal with them, especially at Parkhead.

They need to dust themselves down regroup and get back to winning ways.

Celtic thoroughly deserved it.

They only managed a single-goal win away to bottom side Falkirk, but Ayr have stretched their lead to three points over Ross County in the Championship.

County were held to a 2-2 draw away to Inverness Caley Thistle in the Highland derby.

Dundee United's recovery under new manager Robbie Neilson continues and they have consolidated themselves in third place.

Many wondered whether Hearts' string of injuries to key players would take its toll and that's seems to have come to pass.

It has combined with Celtic shaking off their early season troubles and the difference between the sides was vast in Glasgow this afternoon.

Hearts retain their lead, but the aggregate is 8-0 over two games in a week after their League Cup semi-final beating and it's down to one point with Celtic having a game in hand.

Rangers ended their mini blip by beating St Mirren earlier and end the day in third ahead of Kilmarnock, who play tomorrow.

Bottom side Dundee were unable to take advantage of the Buddies' defeat and their loss away to Motherwell, combined with Hamilton's win over Livingston, leaves those two looking increasingly detached at the foot of the table.
