  1. Good nightpublished at 22:11 BST 29 June 2017

I'll sign off now. It wasn't a rip-roaring start to the season was it? St Johnstone are in all sorts of trouble after conceding two goals in a home defeat and Rangers struggled against a team from Luxembourg at Ibrox. Opposition doesn't get much more minnow-y than that.

That's quite an alarming admission from Tommy Wright about other teams being technically superior. Why should players in Lithuania be better at controlling the football than us?

Thanks for your company. Let's hope for better news from the second legs next week.

  2. Saints will improve, says Wrightpublished at 22:07 BST 29 June 2017

FT: St Johnstone 1-2 FK Trakai

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright talking to BBC Radio Scotland: "Obviously, the result is disappointing. The second goal is criminal from us. It was a great finish but the ball should never get to him.

"I thought we were much better in the second half. We were sloppy at times in possession but thought we created enough chances to get back in the game. But we probably didn't do enough over the 90 minutes.

"Every one of the teams in this competition are all probably technically better than us, that's why we can't allow them time on the ball. We didn't get in about them enough in the first half.

"We will need to be better in the second leg and we will be better. I wouldn't rule us out."

  3. Postpublished at 21:58 BST 29 June 2017

FT: St Johnstone 1-2 FK Trakai

St Johnstone need at least two goals in Lithuania but they will be without last season's top scorer Steven MacLean. Trakai play on an artificial pitch and the striker doesn't do plastic due to previous knee injuries.

  4. Postpublished at 21:56 BST 29 June 2017

    FT: Rangers 1-0 Progres Niederkorn

Will the team from Luxembourg be more adventurous at home? They need to score but I can't see them changing their blueprint much. Progres Niederkorn may well sit in and aim to frustrate again, hoping to grab something from a set-piece.

As long as Rangers avoid any silliness, they should make it through. Right?

  5. Caixinha happy with winpublished at 21:50 BST 29 June 2017

    Rangers 1-0 Progres Niederkorn (FT)

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha knows there is work to do in this tie but he was happy to take a win in the club's first match in Europe for six years.

He tells Premier Sports: "I really like the first half, the team was very good. We need more presence on the ball and to be a little bit more aggressive. The possession was OK but I don’t want just possession.

“It’s always good to start after six years away from Europe by winning but we know this is just the first half. We have five days to prepare it.

“We are happy because we win and we will keep working to try to improve the team."

  6. 'Dreadful result for St Johnstone'published at 21:48 BST 29 June 2017

FT: St Johnstone 1-2 FK Trakai

Former Scotland defender Willie Miller on BBC Radio Scotland: "I think over the piece Trakai deserve to go away with this victory. I don't think St Johnstone were good enough tonight to say they deserve any better. Turning around this deficit is a big ask. This is a dreadful result for them."

  7. Postpublished at 21:46 BST 29 June 2017

    FT: Rangers 1-0 Progres Niederkorn

The team from Luxembourg are greeting their small band of fans inside Ibrox. There are only about 15 or so, making handshakes all round possible.

The visitors look quite pleased with themselves. Will they fancy an upset in the return leg next week?

It's a long shot for Saints now. I don't think they can argue they deserved more from this game

  9. FULL-TIME Rangers 1-0 Progres Niederkornpublished at 21:40 BST 29 June 2017

It's not quite the score a near full-house at Ibrox was hoping for. Rangers were pretty pedestrian as they struggled to find a way through the packed defence of the team from Luxembourg.

Niko Kranjcar impressed on his return from long-term injury and dependable Kenny Miller came up with the only goal.

  10. CLOSE!published at 21:40 BST 29 June 2017

    Rangers 1-0 Progres Niederkorn

A corner is headed back across goal by Fabio Cardoso to central defensive partner David Bates, who nods on target, but there is a defender well placed to hoof it clear on the goal-line.

We're moving into 90 minutes at Ibrox. A second goal would make a huge difference.

  12. FULL-TIME St Johnstone 1-2 FK Trakaipublished at 21:34 BST 29 June 2017

Is that it for Saints? They'll need to score at least two in Lithuania next week.

  13. Postpublished at 21:34 BST 29 June 2017

    St Johnstone 1-2 FK Trakai

Corner to Saints. Can they conjure up some stoppage-time drama?

No, I'm afraid. It's played short, then lumped into the box to no avail.

  14. Postpublished at 21:32 BST 29 June 2017

    Rangers 1-0 Progres Niederkorn

A scare for Rangers as the ball thumps against the arm of Lee Wallace in the penalty box. The visitors are screaming for a spot-kick but it was from a shot that was heading high over the target and it could not be considered a deliberate block.

  15. Postpublished at 21:30 BST 29 June 2017

    St Johnstone 1-2 FK Trakai

We're into the 90th minute at McDiarmid Park. Oscar Murphy Dorley trudges off for Trakai and gets a sporting round of applause from the home fans. The Liberian teenager looks a real talent.

  16. Cummins 'had to score'published at 21:26 BST 29 June 2017

    St Johnstone 1-2 FK Trakai

Former St Johnstone defender Allan Preston on BBC Radio Scotland: "Give the keeper credit but that is a sitter - he has got to score!"

  17. Postpublished at 21:25 BST 29 June 2017

    Rangers 1-0 Progres Niederkorn

Rangers are making heavy weather of this and if they get the job done they will need a vast improvement against AEL Limassol in the next round. The Cypriots are 4-0 up in Gibraltar this evening.

  18. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:24 BST 29 June 2017

    St Johnstone 1-2 FK Trakai

The Saints fans are on their feet expecting to celebrate an equaliser but Graham Cummins is unable to convert from six yards as the keeper spreads himself well.

  19. RED CARDpublished at 21:23 BST 29 June 2017

Hope for Saints as Trakai goalscorer Vaidas Silenas picks up a second booking for a rash high challenge.

Striker Chris Kane immediately replaces midfielder Liam Craig for the final seven minutes.

  20. Postpublished at 21:21 BST 29 June 2017

    Rangers 1-0 Progres Niederkorn

Nervy times for Rangers as James Tavernier makes a vital interception with Progres threatening to square it.
