That's quite an alarming admission from Tommy Wright about other teams being technically superior. Why should players in Lithuania be better at controlling the football than us?

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright talking to BBC Radio Scotland: "Obviously, the result is disappointing. The second goal is criminal from us. It was a great finish but the ball should never get to him.

"I thought we were much better in the second half. We were sloppy at times in possession but thought we created enough chances to get back in the game. But we probably didn't do enough over the 90 minutes.

"Every one of the teams in this competition are all probably technically better than us, that's why we can't allow them time on the ball. We didn't get in about them enough in the first half.

"We will need to be better in the second leg and we will be better. I wouldn't rule us out."

St Johnstone need at least two goals in Lithuania but they will be without last season's top scorer Steven MacLean. Trakai play on an artificial pitch and the striker doesn't do plastic due to previous knee injuries.

Will the team from Luxembourg be more adventurous at home? They need to score but I can't see them changing their blueprint much. Progres Niederkorn may well sit in and aim to frustrate again, hoping to grab something from a set-piece.

As long as Rangers avoid any silliness, they should make it through. Right?

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha knows there is work to do in this tie but he was happy to take a win in the club's first match in Europe for six years.

He tells Premier Sports: "I really like the first half, the team was very good. We need more presence on the ball and to be a little bit more aggressive. The possession was OK but I don’t want just possession.

“It’s always good to start after six years away from Europe by winning but we know this is just the first half. We have five days to prepare it.

“We are happy because we win and we will keep working to try to improve the team."

Former Scotland defender Willie Miller on BBC Radio Scotland: "I think over the piece Trakai deserve to go away with this victory. I don't think St Johnstone were good enough tonight to say they deserve any better. Turning around this deficit is a big ask. This is a dreadful result for them."

The team from Luxembourg are greeting their small band of fans inside Ibrox. There are only about 15 or so, making handshakes all round possible.

The visitors look quite pleased with themselves. Will they fancy an upset in the return leg next week?

It's not quite the score a near full-house at Ibrox was hoping for. Rangers were pretty pedestrian as they struggled to find a way through the packed defence of the team from Luxembourg.

Niko Kranjcar impressed on his return from long-term injury and dependable Kenny Miller came up with the only goal.

A corner is headed back across goal by Fabio Cardoso to central defensive partner David Bates, who nods on target, but there is a defender well placed to hoof it clear on the goal-line.

We're moving into 90 minutes at Ibrox. A second goal would make a huge difference.
