India's tail continued to wag, before Ollie Robinson ended it, completing his first Test five-for.

India ended on 278, a lead of 95, before England openers Rory Burns and Dom Sibley calmly reached 20-0 before the rain arrived.

So England will resume 70 runs behind on day four, hoping for a lead of 200-250 to really test India. A tall ask, mind.

Ravindra Jadeja proved a thorn in England's side by hitting a fine 56.

That mess looked set to continue as Joe Root dropped KL Rahul, only for the opener to fall soon after, becoming James Anderson's 620th Test victim, taking him past India great Anil Kumble.

Root then made amends by snaffling a much tougher chance to remove Shardul Thakur.

England did remove Pant via a loose shot, but then made a bit of a mess before lunch with missed chances and a bad review..

India resumed on 125-4, with KL Rahul set on 57 and Rishabh Pant in the mood to quickly add to his seven not out.

Right, before we finish for the day, let's have a look back at the key moments of action we did get in between the rain...

No signs of any riot at Trent Bridge, thankfully.

The stands are almost entirely empty.

It's blazing sunshine. If they call it off now, there will be a riot.

You know you're not going to get fireworks from Dom Sibley, but he's been calm and controlled so far. He will be aware of the murmuring around his position in the team, but it's not just him. Burns, Lawrence and Crawley are pretty much in the same position.

We've not seen many balls in England's second innings sadly.

Rory Burns has hit a couple of belting boundaries though.

It is frustrating. They do need to prepare the ground and there are concerns it would be dangerous for players to resume on a wet outfield.

But it does so often result in players stood waiting on the sidelines, ready to come on, only for the rain to return just before they are able to.

Why after two mins of spitty rain do we now have to wait another half an hour before play will resume. Totally unacceptable for the paying public. Doubt I will bother driving 250 miles for a day at a Test match again. Very poor.

In the absence of Ben Stokes, England are always juggling and always seem to be a man short without him, either in the batting or bowling.

We've had another deluge and this one has been more alarming because it came straight down and wasn't been blown sideways.

England batsmen - criticised for playing a Test like it's a T20, criticised for playing too slowly. I always thought one of the purposes of an opener was to stick around and blunt the attack.

This innings could be a shoot-out in terms of whether Ollie Pope comes back into the side for the next game and if so, who he replaces. If Lawrence gets runs in this innings, Pope probably won't come back.

That James Anderson screed was mainly a subtweet directed at my mate who once claimed Ryan Harris was a better bowler.
