Well that was quite some finish at Taunton, where a tie looked a distinct possibility until last man Tim Groenewald hit the single to give Somerset victory over Surrey.

Elsewhere in Division One, Middlesex are pressing hard for a win over Hampshire, and Yorkshire and Notts have healthy leads against Lancashire and Notts respectively.

Division Two leaders Essex are well on top at Northants and Derbyshire are struggling to avoid defeat by Sussex - so it looks like we've got another gripping day's play coming up for you on Tuesday.

Northants nightwatchman Ben Sanderson kept Adam Rossington company for the final six overs at Wantage Road, but the home side face an uphill struggle to avoid defeat on the final day against Division Two leaders Essex.

Ryan ten Doeschate (145) and James Foster (113) earned the visitors a first-innings lead of 196 and only first-innings centurion Ben Duckett looked comfortable for Northants before he was caught off Ashar Zaidi for 33.

Middlesex fast bowler James Fuller removed Michael Carberry and Sean Ervine in successive overs to put them on course for victory after Hampshire were forced to follow-on at Northwood. Fuller had Carberry caught for 21 and then bowled Ervine for a single as the visitors reached stumps still 274 in arrears.

Tim Murtagh and Toby Roland-Jones took four wickets each earlier in the day as Hampshire were dismissed in just 51.4 overs, following an unbroken partnership of 174 between Adam Vohes (160 not out) and John Simpson (100 not out) which preceded Middlesex's declaration.

Notts are in a healthy position, 191 runs ahead at Trent Bridge, despite Scott Borthwick's unbeaten 188 for Durham earlier in the day. He hit a six and 28 fours in his third Championship century of the summer before running out of partners.

Borthwick then removed Steven Mullaney with his leg-spin, but Jake Libby (33) and Greg Smith (21) prevented further damage by surviving the final 15 overs. 

Shiv Thakor ended the day on 58 not out, but Derbyshire have a lot of hard graft ahead to avoid defeat unless the weather comes to their aid at Hove. Thakor shared a 79-run stand with Tom Poynton (29) which ended with a run out following a mix-up between the two batsmen and the visitors trail by 102.

Sussex's Luke Wells went for 104 at the start of play, but ben Brown's 61 not out off 54 balls established a 297-run lead before they declared.

South African Graeme van Buuren reached a 205-ball century in the last over of play at New Road, and ended it with a boundary off Alexei Kervezee, the 12th of his innings, to end the day on 104 not out. They trail by 213, however, with Worcestershire's Jack Shantry following his superb 106 earlier in the day by taking 2-42. Gareth Roderick (60) put on 120 for the second wicket with van Buuren, but Hamish Marshall's 34 has been the only other score of note.

Yorkshire will take a 189-run lead into the third day of the Roses match after a shaky final session at Headingley. After an opening stand of 41 between Adam Lyth and Alex Lees (17), the White Rose county lost Jack Leaning and Gary Ballance cheaply before the close.

Lyth remains on 44 not out after Liam Livingstone's unbeaten 60 enabled Lancashire to reach 196 in their first innings after being 92-7 at one stage.

In the 31st minute of added time, last man Tim Groenewald plays Mathew Pillans away through the covers at Taunton to complete a magnificent victory for Somerset - their first of the season following six drawn games. Groenewald (18) and Jack Leach (24) shared an unbroken stand of 31 for the final wicket after Surrey had looked the likely winners for most of the day.

Surrey skipper Gareth Batty takes 3-83, giving him match figures of 10-115, but they will only take five points from the game and have now lost four out of seven, with no victories. Somerset pick up 19 points and move up to second in the table, pending the outcome of other matches.

Tim Groenewald takes one through backward point and Jack Leach brings the scores level with a single into the covers. Somerset cannot lose the game now - one run gives them the win. Or will it be a tie?

We are into the extra half-hour at Taunton. Surrey make a bowling change with Mathew Pillans replacing Stuart Meaker (4-79) and Tim Groenewald immediately picks up two runs, followed by a single - 10 more needed by Somerset.

That could have been it but Rory Burns is unable to hang onto a slip chance offered by Jack Leach from the bowling of Surrey skipper Gareth Batty. Tim Groenewald picks up a boundary, thanks to a misfield at the start of the next over and is then struck in the body by Stuart Meaker, but Leach punches another four through the covers.

Somerset need 16, Surrey need one wicket - the extra half hour will be taken, if necessary.

Only 46.3 overs are possible in the day at Canterbury because of bad light. Having picked up Leicestershire's final two wickets for the addition of one run, Kent lost Tom Latham early, but Daniel Bell-Drummond survived despite one or two edges not going to hand and will resume on 65 not out on day three, with his side 224 behind.
