Who was saying the bat's dominated the ball so far this season?

That hasn't really been the case today, with only one century recorded across the nine County Championship games so far, by Nottinghamshire's Joe Clarke against Surrey.

We've had 14 wickets fall between Warwickshire and Yorkshire at Edgbaston, with 12 in the games between Essex and Hampshire and Lancashire and Middlesex.

Meanwhile, England Test captain Ben Stokes picked up two wickets in his first outing of the summer for Durham against Worcestershire.

Will the trend continue tomorrow, or will more batters come to the party? Make sure you join us again in the morning, from 10:40 BST onwards, to find out!

Until then, have a good evening!

    Gloucestershire 325 v Kent 1-0

A frantic final hour of this one, which finishes in some glorious May evening sunshine.

Ben Charlesworth was the story at the start of the day for Gloucestershire, setting the hosts on their way with a knock of 85 off 148 balls.

But the final portion of this one was all about James Taylor, who took four wickets in six overs on debut for Kent to finish with six wickets and send his side into bat for 12 balls in fading light.

This one is finely poised going into Saturday.

  4. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 19:06 BST 8 May

    Worcs 209-7 v Durham

Luke Robinson sends down the final over of the day and there's a scare for Tom Taylor as one ball swings back at him and just over the stumps.

However, Taylor finishes the day by turning Robinson away for a single and he reaches the close on 10 not out, with Ethan Brookes at the other end on 21.

  5. Taylor on a tearpublished at 19:00 BST 8 May

    Gloucestershire 325 v Kent

James Taylor ends his first stint as a Kent bowler with figures of six wickets for just 52 runs and nine maidens.

A fine effort, and one which limits the hosts to just two bonus points, when it looked for all the world as though 350 was within reach for Gloucestershire.

  6. Postpublished at 18:58 BST 8 May

    Worcs 204-7 v Durham

Lovely cover drive by Ethan Brookes off Luke Robinson brings him four runs and lifts the Worcestershire total above 200.

Back in the old days, that would have earned the Pears a bonus point but not the case any more - they'll need another 46 runs to claim that prize.

  7. GLOUCESTERSHIRE ALL OUTpublished at 18:55 BST 8 May

    Gloucestershire 325 v Kent

Who else but James Taylor to seal the deal and finish the Gloucestershire innings.

We'll get a couple of overs with Kent at the crease, too. What fun.

  8. Postpublished at 18:54 BST 8 May

    Worcs 198-7 v Durham

Ethan Brookes defends against Kasey Aldridge as Worcestershire tick off another over - there are three more to be bowled tonight.

It looks as though Ben Stokes is done for the day as far as bowling goes, with Luke Robinson operating at the other end.

  9. Five-wicket haul for James Taylorpublished at 18:48 BST 8 May

    Williams c & b Taylor 0 (Gloucestershire 318-9 v Kent)

Five wickets on debut! What a way to announce yourself.

James Taylor delivers to and then catches the effort from Will Williams and there's now a real possibility Kent could be batting tonight!

    M Taylor lbw b J Taylor 0 (Gloucestershire 318-8 v Kent)

    Spoke too soon!

A four-fer on debut for James Taylor, who traps Matt Taylor and the Gloucestershire batsman is on the way back to the dressing room without adding to his side's tally.

  11. Postpublished at 18:44 BST 8 May

    Gloucestershire 318-7 v Kent

Seven overs left in Bristol, and Gloucestershire will do well to get to the close tonight with no more wickets loss having just loss Graeme van Buuren and Tommy Boorman in quick succession.

Ed Middleton and Matt Taylor tasked with making sure that happens.

    Waite c Bedingham b Aldridge 18 (Worcs 189-7 v Durham)

Kasey Aldridge strikes with his first wicket of the game and the seventh for Durham!

Not a great shot by Matthew Waite, who steers a widish delivery straight into the waiting hands of second slip.

That brings Tom Taylor to the middle, with five overs and one ball to go tonight.

  13. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:42 BST 8 May

    Sussex 3-0 v Leics 328

Leicestershire were sent in but got off to a great start, racing to 92-0 with Rishi Patel making 45 and Jake Weathereald 43.

But Sussex chipped away to leave the visitors 209-7, Jack Carson taking four wickets.

Ian Holland led the fightback with 63 and Tom Scriven’s 50 pushed the visitors up to a steady score.

Sussex then survived five overs without loss.

  14. Postpublished at 18:40 BST 8 May

    Worcs 186-6 v Durham

Ethan Brookes and Matthew Waite are digging in to try and ensure Worcestershire reach stumps with four wickets still in hand.

Waite has just punched Luke Robinson off the back foot for four and the pair have added 33 so far, with six more overs scheduled for tonight.

  15. Close of play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 18:31 BST 8 May

    Somerset 337-9 v Glamorgan

A very strong middle of the day for the visitors, who bounced back well to losing James Rew early on thanks to a 133-run stand between Josh Thomas and Tom Lammonby.

After a slight wobble it looked as though Craig Overton and Tom Abell - who went on to top score with 82 - had given Somerset a stranglehold on the match, only for three wickets to fall for the loss of just nine runs late on.

Tom Norton took three wickets - his first at County Championship level - while Timm van der Gugten, Ryan Hadley, and Zain ul Hassan all struck twice.

Ben Stokes' bowling might be done for the day. His third spell has come to an end after six overs - one of those took an hour either side of a rain delay. Overall, he has 2-40 from 14 overs.

  17. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:29 BST 8 May

    Essex 51-2 v Hants 235

    A good day for Essex.

They won the toss and had Hants 88-4 after Sam Cook took three wickets.

The visitors fought back with Jake Lehmanm’s 89 and Ben Brown’s 73 but suffered a collapse after tea, losing their last four wickets for just seven runs.

Wiaan Mulder also picked up three poles for the home side.

In reply, Paul Walter fell for 5 and Dean Elgar 18.

The final ball of the day bears fruit!

    An extra bowling point, too.

  20. Close of play at the County Groundpublished at 18:22 BST 8 May

    Derbyshire 342-3 v Northants

A positive first day for the hosts, who had four half centurions in Harry Came (73) and Matthew Montgomery (54), as well as Caleb Jewell (91) and Wayne Madsen (57) who both end the day not out.

The hosts will look to build a score as quickly as they can tomorrow morning.

Calvin Harrison, Ben Sanderson, and Harry Conway made the breakthroughs for the visitors.
