Boxer Jamie Cox has been jailed for 26 weeks after being found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

The WBO European super-middleweight champion, 29, attacked Viktoria Gribovskaja at her home in Lambeth, south London, in July last year.

Cox was found guilty of assault and harassment, violence to secure entry and criminal damage at a hearing last month.

He was ordered to pay £1,105 in compensation to his victim and court costs, and given a restraining order barring him from contacting her indefinitely.

Cox will be suspended from boxing for the duration of his sentence.

A shocking story from the United States where a man has been charged with murdering American football player Will Smith in New Orleans on Saturday night.

The former New Orleans Saints defensive end - a Super Bowl winner in 2009 - was shot several times during an argument after a traffic accident in the city's Lower Garden District.

Cardell Hayes, 29, has been charged with second-degree murder, New Orleans police said.

Smith's wife, Racquel, was also shot in the incident and taken to hospital. The couple have three children.

Brighton will be aiming to move within one point of second-placed Middlesbrough when they travel to Nottingham Forest in Monday's Championship fixture (19:45 BST).

Forest have been dropping down the table recently and sit 20th after just two wins in their past 10 matches.

Brighton are without strikers Sam Baldock, who has a hamstring strain, and Bobby Zamora, who is not expected back from injury until Friday's visit of Fulham.

Forest defenders Michael Mancienne and Kelvin Wilson are both fitness doubts, with Jack Hobbs already ruled out. Full-back Eric Lichaj is back from a ban, and striker Britt Assombalonga could be on the bench.

"Almost a fortnight after Remi Garde left the club,the board has a shortlist but next the respective claims of the candidates will be scrutinised by the four members together - chairman David Bernstein, Lord King, Adrian Bevington and former Villa player and chairman, Brian Little.

"I understand no one has been approached yet, but the leading candidates remain David Moyes, Nigel Pearson, Steve Bruce, Mick McCarthy, Sean Dyche and Simon Grayson, who played twice for Little at Leicester and Villa.

Ospreys flanker Justin Tipuric will miss the rest of the season and Wales' tour of New Zealand this summer because of concussion.

Tipuric was hurt in Wales' final Six Nations match against Italy last month.

Following advice from specialists, he will take an extended rest period of three months. 

Ospreys' medical performance manager Chris Towers said: "Justin is recovering well following the concussion suffered playing for Wales against Italy three weeks ago, but in the light of his symptoms the specialist advice is that it is in his best interests to take his time returning."

England and Bath full-back Anthony Watson will appear before an RFU disciplinary panel tomorrow following his red card against Saracens earlier this month.

He is charged with tackling Alex Goode in the air - which led to the sending off - while he has also been charged with allegedly using "offensive, inappropriate and unprofessional" language and behaviour towards the fourth official when leaving the field.

Liverpool have not discussed a new contract with Wales midfielder Joe Allen, BBC Wales Sport understands.

Allen, who joined Liverpool from Swansea City for £15m in August 2012, has 14 months left before his current deal expires.

The 26-year-old has previously said he is playing for his long-term Anfield future.

Liverpool rejected an enquiry from Swansea about re-signing their former player on loan in January.

Allen has only started four Premier League games this season including Sunday's 4-1 win over Stoke City.

Alastair Cook didn't last long after reaching his hundred for Essex, falling for 105 after being trapped lbw by Gloucestershire off-spinner Jack Taylor.

The England Test captain shared a second-wicket stand of 222 with Tom Westley, who also scored a ton.

At the time of Cook's dismissal on the second afternoon, Essex were 224-2 in reply to Gloucestershire's 262 all out.

England's first Test match of the summer is against Sri Lanka at Headingley, starting on 19 May.

Olympic stadium bosses have been ordered to reveal details of their deal with West Ham United over the club's use of the east London stadium.

The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) fought a London Assembly ruling that the contract should be made public. The appeal has been rejected by a tribunal.

West Ham are due to move to the Olympic stadium at the end of the season.

The LLDC has the right to appeal against the latest decision.

It has not yet made a comment on the tribunal outcome.

Stoke forward Bojan Krkic says the Potters will be looking "to end the season in style" after being tonked 4-1 by Liverpool at Anfield.

Mark Hughes' side face second-placed Tottenham next Monday, having slipped to ninth in the Premier League after Sunday's defeat.

England Test captain Alastair Cook has reached his hundred in Essex's County Championship Division Two season-opener against Gloucestershire.

Cook is 103 not out in Chelmsford, having put on an unbeaten 220 with Tom Westley, who is on 104.

Essex are 222-1, just 40 behind Gloucestershire's first-innings total.
