The silverware Rory McIlroy has picked is probably half the length of his body. I hope he's got space left in his trophy cabinet.

More from Race to Dubai winner Rory McIlroy, on surpassing Seve Ballesteros' six European Order of Merit/Race to Dubai wins: "It's amazing, I had a conversation with Carmen [Seve Ballesteros' ex wife] before I went out to play today and she told me how proud he would have been. He means so much to this Tour and the European Ryder Cup team. We rally so much around his spirit, his quotes and everything he meant for European golf.

"To surpass him this year, I did not get this far in my dreams."

On Colin Montgomerie's record of eight titles: "I want it. Of course I do. When you get that close. I caught up with Monty a couple of days ago and look it seems within touching distance now. I was the first European to win the Grand Slam and I would love to be the European with the most wins in terms of the Order of Merit and season long races. I have hopefully got a few more good years left in me and hopefully I can catch him and surpass him."

Race to Dubai winner Rory McIlroy, speaking to Sky Sports: "Got off to the perfect start. Three under through five, four under through seven and felt like I had sort of taken control of the tournament, was a couple ahead and then I made two bogeys on the way in and didn't birdie 14 and 15, the birdie holes and knew I needed something to happen on the last.

"I knew what I needed to do. I was lucky to see Rasmus putt before mine so got a bit of a read. It was agreat way to finish and summon what I needed to, to make the play-off but unfortunately it went into the water in the play-off and put me behind the eight ball.

"I am happy for Matt. He has had a great end of season. Played great to get on the Ryder Cup team and has played great since as well."

I struggled at the start of the year obviously and to turn it round in the summer like I did, have the Ryder Cup like I did which is hard to top but the way I played today...there was one bad shot all day. So proud of myself. The effort everyone puts in behind the scenes. What a feeling.

"I'd not been hiting it amazing all week but kind of hit it well yesterday and really well today. In the middle of the round nothing was going my way but I managed to roll a couple in late and get into position."

Rory McIlroy has got his line just right but it pulls up a few inches short. He has secured the Race to Dubai title but Matt Fitzpatrick will be putting to win his third DP World Tour Championship.

The Englishman makes no mistake from close range.

    Fitzpatrick -18, McIlroy -18 (play-off)

Rory McIlroy can't quite get the contact he needs and his balls spins up and sits on the top of the ridge in the middle of the 18th green.

Matt Fitzpatrick needs to get this close and unlike Rory, does catch the slope perfectly to run into around three feet.

    Fitzpatrick -18, McIlroy -18 (play-off)

Matt Fitzpatrick has his pitching wedge in hand. There's plenty of loft on that but it's drifting well right. That has to count as a big mistake at this stage.

Rory McIlroy has a hell of a shot facing him mind. He's got to fly out of the bunker and find the bump where the second tier of the green begins.

    Fitzpatrick -18, McIlroy -18 (play-off)

Matt Fitzpatrick lays up and just about carries the water. "It came out spinney", says the Englishman who will be playing his third much further back than he intended.

Rory McIlroy has his five wood out for what is now his third shot. With 234 yards to the pin he zings his ball well right and finds the sand on the front edge. Not an ideal spot.

    Fitzpatrick -18, McIlroy -18 (play-off)

Matt Fitzpatrick is left and finds the rough but looks to have a decent lie.

After all the adrenalin of his eagle a few minutes back, Rory McIlroy shunts his right into the stream that splits the fairways so will need to take a penalty drop.

    Early advantage Fitzpatrick.
