Aune Heggebo's first-half effort was as close as either side came to scoring
Championship strugglers Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion played out a drab goalless draw at Ewood Park.
Having seen fellow relegation-threatened sides Portsmouth and Oxford United draw 2-2 earlier in the day, both teams knew a victory could go a long way to securing their survival.
However, the draw means the Baggies are just four points and two places above the drop zone, with Rovers one spot and two points above them.
Aune Heggebo lit up a dreary first half when his close-range effort was tipped onto the bar by Blackburn keeper Balazs Toth after 30 minutes.
Rovers improved after the break and looked more likely to get the decisive opening goal as Moussa Baradji, Tom Atcheson and Mathias Jorgensen went close, with the hosts failing to register an effort on target.
Albion's Isaac Price sending a low effort wide of the far post in the seventh minute was the only chance of a first half that lacked much goalmouth action.
That changed when Heggebo's swivelling volley from six yards out was well saved by Toth after Callum Styles' cross had been headed into his path by Ousmane Diakite.
Ryoya Morishita blazed an effort high and wide for Rovers, who failed to threaten the Baggies goal in the first period.
The home side started the second period brightly, having brought on Jorgensen and Yuri Ribeiro at the interval. Baradji blazed wide from an angle from inside the box, before Atcheson flicked a header wide from a corner.
The hosts continued to up the pressure but failed to convert their best chance - Jorgensen appeared to duck as he tried to head in a 63rd-minute Morishita cross when contact with his head could have given his side the lead.
He had a shot blocked by Diakite in the box soon after, before Albion substitute Daryl Dike had an effort charged down with five minutes to go.
West Brom's draw extended interim boss James Morrison's unbeaten run to six games.
'We have to be happy' - reaction
Blackburn Rovers manager Michael O'Neill told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"Overall we have to be happy with four points from the two games.
"I didn't think we played as well today - there's always a worry after what the players put into the game on Friday that they can't get to the same level physically.
"I think first half we struggled a little bit with that, gave the ball away a little bit cheaply, and the goalkeeper makes an amazing save for us, which we needed at that point in time.
"But second half I thought we were a lot better. I thought we looked like the team more likely to win the game, but we didn't maybe make the best of some of the opportunities that we had.
"So overall we have to be pleased with a clean sheet. It keeps us six points clear of the teams that are in the bottom three and chalks another game off."
O'Neill: 'I didn't think we played as well today'
West Bromwich Albion interim head coach James Morrison told BBC WM:
"I saw my players give everything. We just lacked a bit of quality in the final third, just lacked that bit of composure - someone who's going to get that final pass off and give our strikers a chance in the box.
"Having said that, the keeper's made a terrific save off Heggebo. It was world-class. Then (had Albion scored) it would have been a different game, sat here 1-0 with a really good away performance.
"It keeps the momentum and we've seen that the results have gone for us again, so we've just got to keep getting the results and points on the board and keep moving forward."
