Wolves are out not of it. Suddenly they are clicking under Edwards. They have quick players who can cause damage. It’s just a lack of ruthlessness and serious investment that’s costing them. It has been a tough season, but they are fighting for their Premier League lives. It probably is wishful thinking, but extraordinary things do happen.

And here is Wolves boss Rob Edwards...

First up, he's asked if the squad has belief that they can stay up: "Our aim is and always has been to try and achieve as many points as possible and go into every game and try and win.

"We want to take momentum into next season, continue to fight and try and take as many points as we can."

  7. How have Wolves improved?published at 13:34 GMT

    Rob EdwardsImage source, Getty Images

Wolves had only three points at the start of the year, but has Edwards given them hope, however improbable?

He lost his opening eight games after replacing Vitor Pereira in November, taking a first point in a draw at Manchester United in December.

Since then, including the result at Old Trafford, Wolves have earned 13 points in 12 games.

It is not enough to put them within touching distance of safety given the gap - which grew to 16 points at one stage - but 13 points is the same haul as Brighton and Newcastle in that time, and two short of fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Wolves are 12th in the form table over the past five games and 15th over the past 10.

They have lost five of their past 15 games in all competitions, a significant upturn after losing 17 of their opening 21 this season.

In Tuesday's 2-1 win over Liverpool they restricted the misfiring champions to 0.62 xG (expected goals).

Only leaders Arsenal have managed to limit Liverpool to fewer chances in open play, with 0.28 xG in the Reds' past 16 games.

Running stats have also improved considerably and Wolves have outrun Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Everton, West Ham, Forest and Villa since the change in management.

Previously, the squad had managed it only twice, including running only 180m more than Brighton during their 1-1 draw in October.

The squad covered 113,508m in this month's home win over Villa, the fifth highest of the season, having run 114,427m coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Arsenal at Molineux.

That was the second highest mark of the season and collectively they are running 7.8k on average higher - around an hour for a midfielder - under Edwards.

With Tudor Spurs are going down - those players as bad as they have been are not having him. If he is in charge for the Forest game after a thumping at Liverpool then the owners have accepted relegation, which is bizarre.

    Adrian, Sleaford

Spurs getting relegated is prob the best thing for English football. It needs a shock that a club that size can go down. Shame is Spurs but had to happen to someone

  9. Will Wolves pull off the Premier League's greatest escape?published at 13:25 GMT

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Wolves have eight games left to pull off the most improbable of escapes.

Rob Edwards' side have won their past two games - against Aston Villa and Liverpool - but, with eight games left, remain bottom, 12 points from safety with a vastly inferior goal difference.

They have also played a game more than their rivals and, according to Opta, have a 99.9% chance of relegation to the Championship, which will end their eight-year stay in the top flight.

But Wolves do not play a team currently in the top six in their final eight games and Edwards' side will have a huge say in who goes down, even with the odds stacked against them.

They will need four wins to draw level with Nottingham Forest and West Ham in 17th and 18th respectively, while hoping their fellow strugglers do not pick up a point.

Another victory at Brentford next Monday would give Wolves more momentum.

Their 19-game winless start, a Premier League record, means they would also need to eclipse the 2021-22 Newcastle team, who went 14 games without a win at the start of the season but survived.

    They can't, can they?

Burnley will be targeting three points against Bournemouth, with it not even taking them out of the relegation zone.

In West Ham's dreams, three points could give them a huge boost, but against Manchester City?

Leeds United travel to Crystal Palace with Daniel Farke hoping for any points to help distance themselves from the bottom three.

Nottingham Forest drew 2-2 with Manchester City in their last outing, a performance Vitor Pereira will be hoping to replicate against Fulham.

Tottenham face a Liverpool side chasing European football next season. Arne Slot's side will not be taking any prisoners.

  12. How the relegation battle is shaping uppublished at 13:10 GMT

It's looking tight at the bottom of the table for the bottom six.

Leeds United are in the best position in 15th but still sit only three points above the drop, whereas Tottenham have the worst form in the Premier League in 2026.

Nottingham Forest and West Ham are hot on each others heels and Burnley haven't managed to replicate the form they showed in their 3-2 win against Crystal Palace for weeks.

Wolves have seen a recent resurgence in form, but it could be too little too late for Rob Edwards' side.

  15. Recap: Champions League reaction as Premier League sides falterpublished at 11:59 GMT

That's your lot for today's Champions League chatter.

We'll be back in around an hour or so to bring you a number of Premier League news conferences that are taking place this afternoon.

Before that though, here's a recap of the best bits we've been across this morning:

  16. 'He showed his quality tonight'published at 11:56 GMT

    Real Madrid 3-0 Manchester City

    Federico ValverdeImage source, Getty Images

John Murray gives his thoughts from the Bernabeu after Federico Valverde's stunning performance for Real Madrid yesterday: "Hedoubled his tally for the season here tonight. But he's got that in him. He is an all round footballer. He can play in a number of different positions.

"He's the captain of Real Madrid. So that speaks for itself in terms of what sort of character he is. You can't be a shrinking violet if you're the captain in this place. Let me tell you. That is a pressure job. All the Real Madrid players, anyone involved with the club, it's pressure all the time. But if you're the captain, you've got something about you, and he certainly had tonight,

"Valverde is the type of player that if the left back didn't turn up on a Sunday morning you were playing, he could play left back, he could play right back, he can play anywhere. He's got everything. And he showed his quality tonight."

I’d say Diogo Costa is underrated. I think he’s as good as any other goalkeeper currently playing but isn’t as lauded because he’s played all of his club career outside Europe’s top 5 leagues, at Porto.

    Rob, Brighton

The most underrated player is Jarrod Bowen how is he not playing at an big club, He will give service to your strikers and is always capable of scoring himself, can play on the wing or up top.

    Enzo, Cumbria

Rio Ngumoha is underrated by Slot let alone everyone else. He is a brilliant talent being held back by a dunce!

  18. Valverde's career so farpublished at 11:51 GMT

    Federico ValverdeImage source, Getty Images

Federico Valverde began his professional career in 2015 at Penerol where he won the Uruguayan Primera Division in his first season. He joined Real Madrid in 2016, featuring for the club’s reserve side, before making his first-team debut the year after.

The midfielder then made his La Liga debut during a season long loan spell for Deportivo de La Coruna in 2017, playing 26 minutes as a substitute versus Real Sociedad at 19-years-old.

Valverde also made his international debut for Uruguay that year, and has since represented his country at three Copa America tournaments.

Returning to Madrid in 2018, he established himself as a key part of the first team. Since then he has made more than 300 appearances for the club and helped the club win three La Liga titles, two FIFA Club World Cup trophies, two Uefa Champions League titles, two UEFA Super Cup victories and the Copa del Rey.

In the the 2022-23 season he scored 12 goals in all competitions, fulfilling Carlo Ancelotti's prediction that he would score more than 10 goals that season.

With the departure of Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez in the 2025-26 season, Valverde was promoted as vice-captain of the team.

Last Friday, in Real's La Liga fixture at Celta Vigo, with the game at 1-1, he claimed a 94th-minute winner to keep their title hopes alive.

Before Man City's visit the 27-year-old had not found the net in his previous 26 Champions League games and never scored more than one in a game in the competition.

In the 39 games he's played this season, he's started 37, with his versatility impressing as he covers defensive and midfield positions.

With regards to "underated footballers" surely Zubimendi has to fall into that bracket. Rice takes all the plaudits in that Arsenal midfield but Zubimendi hardly ever puts a foot wrong he ties the midfield together with unfussy balls and beautifully timed tackles

    Neil, Melton Constable

For me, one of the most unerrated players in the PL is Jacob Murphy. His crossing is excellent, and it's no coincidence that Isak did so well at Newcastle with Murphy provided assists, then struggled at Liverpool. Woltemade is another example - great start, then struggled once Murphy got injured.

    Jonathan, Newcastle

With out a doubt Casemiro as a United fan I can’t believe we’re not offering him a reduced contract just his football intelligence to help progress the team is value alone.

    Alec, Wales

  20. 'Valverde the cog that makes this team turn'published at 11:45 GMT

    Real Madrid 3-0 Manchester City

    Federico ValverdeImage source, Getty Images

Football journalist and author Rory Smith says that Federico Valverde makes Real Madrid a more "balanced" side: "He's played, I think, in four positions this season, in the Champions League alone. He looks comfortable at right back. He's played there. He's played in a midfield four. He's played in a midfield three. He plays wide right. He will do anything. Thats the thing that I like most about Valverde

"He's that cog that makes that team work. When he was a kid the one criticism of him was he didn't run, that's obviously really got into his head, and he spent the rest of his career proving it wrong.

"Obviously having Kylian Mbappe your team makes you better, but it might not make you more balanced. And I wonder if one of the differences tonight is we saw a Real Madrid side that made sense."
