Walsall pulled four points clear at the top of League Two with a 1-0 victory at Oldham.
Oldham wing-back Luke Hannant's wayward backpass in the 27th minute was intercepted by Daniel Kanu, who raced clear and rounded goalkeeper Matt Hudson to slot home his 10th goal of the season.
Sierra Leone international Kanu, on loan from Charlton, has now netted four goals in as many matches as Mat Sadler's team made it five straight wins in league and cup.
The Saddlers also have the best away record in the division as this was their sixth victory on their travels.
It was a disappointing night for Oldham, who suffered a third straight loss in league and cup as they remain in the lower reaches of the table.
Yet they were unlucky not to take the lead when the game was scoreless when Joe Quigley bent a shot from outside the box which struck the inside of a post, rolled along the goal line and somehow stayed out.
