Your thoughts on the transfer window

  1. Will Liverpool look for a right-back?published at 15:19 GMT

With Conor Bradley sustaining a season-ending knee injury earlier this month, Liverpool needed new signing Jeremie Frimpong to stay fit more than ever.

However, a third hamstring injury leaves Liverpool short of right-back options.

"Frimpong will be out for a period of time," Slot said. "We as a club always make smart decisions. We look at the long term. We don't have four right backs and 12 number 9s."

Similar happened at the start of the season and Dominik Szoboszlai filled in brilliantly.

Calvin Ramsay, 22, has been capped by Scotland and is another option, but Arne Slot is yet to trust the former Aberdeen defender.

Could the Reds turn to the transfer market?

An extra option will also keep Szoboszlai in his best position.

  2. 'Farke has enough to stay up without more January signings'published at 15:14 GMT

    Adam Pope
    BBC Radio Leeds commentator

I wouldn't say there is a necessity for more business to be done before the end of the transfer window.

Based on trying to read Daniel Farke's body language and his rhetoric, I think he's pretty transparent. He likes the group and feels strongly about the group.

The real potential deal is the Strand Larsen one which still feels not a complete stretch but a bit of a reach to me.

If Leeds didn't spend £35m or £40m would I be worried? No, I don't think there's that many quality strikers around.

He is one, even though what I've seen this season hasn't been great, and had enough evidence to show he would be worth spending a bit of money on.

I can't think of too many others.

If the squad stayed as this, I think Farke has enough to stay up. But, not bringing anyone in during January - that would cause headloss among a load of people watching and listening to this right now.

I don't think that would be the end of the world, but I would like another loan in at least.

  3. What does Strand Larsen deal mean for Leeds?published at 15:07 GMT

It's no secret that Leeds United were in the running for Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen.

BBC Sport reported earlier this month that Daniel Farke's side had a deal worth up to £40m rejected for the striker, though they were reluctant to go any further.

Leeds have been in promising form in the Premier League over the last couple of months but with teams around them continuing to pick up results, they will still be wanting to confirm their status in the top flight for next season sooner rather than later.

It's clear they are willing to spend the cash this month in order to do so - but where does their attention turn next?

Expect Farke to be asked about their pursuit of Strand Larsen and what it means for them moving forward when he sits down with the media shortly.

  4. Palace close to loan deal for Villa forward Guessandpublished at 14:58 GMT

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

Crystal Palace are close to the loan signing of Aston Villa forward Evann Guessand.

The Eagles, who looked at signing the 24-year-old last summer, are set to take Guessand until the end of the season in a deal that will give them an option to buy.

Guessand has scored twice in 26 Villa appearances - both in the Europa League - having struggled to establish himself in his favoured central striker position.

The £18.25m arrival of Tammy Abraham from Besiktas this week also leaves him as likely third choice behind Abraham and Ollie Watkins.

And although the Ivory Coast international has been happy to fight for his place at Villa Park, he is expected to leave.

Guessand has made just six Premier League starts since joining Villa from Nice for £26m last August.

It must be remembered that Larsen has been playing in a team that still only has EIGHT points from 23 games, and is 17 points from safety. Poor teams still have the odd good player, and he can't do it all by himself. Still, £50 million seems rather steep.....

    JD

£50m for Stand Larsen is insane. Mateta is a better forward, although its not good to have a player who wants to leave hanging around. Has Palace's recruitment team changed? They were so good at finding lower priced gems. Now loosing best players for next to nothing and wildly overspending.

Great Leeds had the discipline not to getting involved a biddy war over Strand Larsson, £50m!

Brightonare set to reject a £20m offer from Nottingham Forest for midfielder Yasin Ayari.

Relegation-threatened Forest want to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes on Monday and have bid for the Sweden international, but sources have told BBC Sport the offer will be turned down.

Ayari signed for Brighton from AIK Stockholm in 2023 and has made 66 appearances for the Seagulls since his £3.5m arrival, scoring six goals.

Since arriving in England the 22-year-old has also had loan spells at Blackburn and Coventry.

"He leads by example and I am looking forward to him adding that to us."

What are Palace doing spending that much when a new manager is needed in the summer? What if he doesn’t want JSL? Surely best option all around is to stick with what you have and splurge the cash under a new manager? Unless they have a new manager??

I think Strand Larsen and Mateta are very similar in terms of how good they are, although I’d lean towards Strand Larsen out of the two. £50m is overpaying though, they’re probably both worth around £35m

    Rob

Since Dougie Freedman left Palace our policy of buying from the lower leagues has been abandoned and we are being sucked in to pay big money for "established" players. Feels like we are losing sight of what has worked for us in the past.

    Dawn

Strand Larsen ! Yeh massive money on the face of it but with Mateta certainly off it could be an astute signing. I think there a decent player in there. he could well come good in a decent set up. But, who knows, big ask.

  14. 'Palmer is untouchable': Rosenoir on transfer rumourspublished at 14:05 GMT

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenoir was asked about the transfer rumours that have begun to swirl around star striker Cole Palmer and firmly closed them down.

The Sun had reported Palmer was open to moving Manchester United but Rosenoir says the England international is happy where he is.

He said: “Is he untouchable, is he happy? Yes and yes. It’s simple, Cole Palmer is an incredible player like many players in the group.

“Cole is here, he’s very happy and I can’t wait to see him back on the pitch.

“Cole is very happy. I’ve had numerous conversations with him.

“Our thoughts are on how we can make this team better, how he can improve and how I can help him. He loves being here and he wants to be a Chelsea player.”

    West Ham United

West Ham manager on new signing Adama Traore: "I know him very well, I have worked with him many years and I know him which is why I said he is unique. There are not many players with his ability on one-v-one situations.

"There are not many players with his speed, with his pace and I think he is going to give us many, many things. We need his threat he possesses. His energy, not only on the pitch but in the dressing room, training round he is a special person to have around."

On whether Traore will play on Saturday: "We didn't decide yet. We still have tomorrow to decide the squad and the team. Adama physically is okay so he can be an option."

If Palace end up with a net spend of around £20 million, but with 2-3 new players, and others returning from injury, that would be a pretty good window. Hopefully, these additions, plus those returning from injury, will lead to a better end to the season than we were expecting.
