It hasn't been the best season so far for Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen.

But then again, it hasn't been the best season for Wolves.

He has made 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring six times and providing two assists.

Three of those goals, however, did come against League Two side Shrewsbury in the FA Cup.

In the Premier League, he has made 21 appearances and scored just one goal while providing one assist.

If Palace have secured Larsen for £50 million, and get a reported £35 million for Mateta, I think this is reasonable business, but maybe priced over the odds? Teams know we're desperate for players as we've left it late for signings as usual, so they feel they can name their price.

  6. Palace agree deal in principle for Strand Larsenpublished at 12:16 GMT

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Crystal Palace have agreed a deal in principle worth in the region of £50m to sign Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Sources have told BBC Sport that Palace's interest in the 25-year-old forward has intensified in the past 24 hours and a formal bid is now set to be submitted.

Palace broke their club record with a £35m move for Wales striker Brennan Johnson earlier this month but Strand Larsen's arrival would surpass that deal.

It has been known that Wolves are open to selling the Norway international this month provided they get a fee close to the £55m they rejected from Newcastle for the striker during the summer transfer window.

Leeds have already seen an offer of £40m rejected by Wolves, and as things stand the Elland Road club are reluctant to go much higher.

Palace's pursuit of Strand Larsen raises further uncertainty over Jean-Philippe Mateta's future at Selhurst Park heading into the final days of the window.

Mateta wants to leave Palace and has informed the club's hierarchy of his wishes.

Juventus and AC Milan are among the clubs to have shown a concrete interest in the France international, while Nottingham Forest submitted an offer of about £35m for Mateta at the weekend.

Mateta is understood to want to play Champions League football, but a move to Forest is understood to be a financially lucrative option for the 28-year-old.

Well, let's kick off with that news we brought you earlier regarding Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

It looks like he's on his way - and for a hefty fee...

  8. Recap: Champions League reactionpublished at 12:07 GMT

That's your lot with regard to the Champions League for today.

We'll be going full on transfer news now, but first, here's a recap of all the best bits we've covered today:

  9. Bodo/Glimt make historypublished at 11:58 GMT

    Atletico Madrid 1-2 Bodo/Glimt

Bodo/Glimt became the first Norwegian side to progress from the league or group phase in Champions League since Rosenborg in 1996-97, with a historic victory against Atletico Madrid to seal their spot.

The Norwegian champions - who beat Manchester City 3-1 eight days ago - finished the league phase in 23rd place, sealing their progression with a historic victory 2-1 win against Atletico Madrid.

The decisive strike came in the 59th minute when forward Kasper Waarts Hogh pounced on a goalmouth scramble to poke past Jan Oblak and seal a first away win in the competition for his side.

Bodo/Glimt will face either Real Madrid or Inter Milan, while Atletico will be paired against either Club Brugge or Galatasaray.

  10. Can PSG bounce back to silverware again?published at 11:55 GMT

    PSG 1-1 Newcastle

Paris St-Germain won the Champions League last season after beating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. However. their campaign did not get off to the best start.

The French club finished 15th in the group stage after registering four wins, one draw and three losses. They had to go through the play-offs where they beat Brest 10-0 on aggregate.

So fans shouldn't be too disgruntled by their 11th place finish in the group stage this time around. They recorded four wins, two draws and two losses. But they have shown they can go on and win silverware without automatic qualification to the round of 16.

  11. But what about the money?published at 11:52 GMT

Jessie J may be able to forget about the price tag but football owners definitely do not. Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain are amongst the top five clubs in terms of revenue in the 2024/25 season (see graphic below) but both failed to make the top eight of the Champions League group stage.

So why have Premier League clubs, who have made less money, been more successful in Europe this season so far?

Six Premier League sides sit inside the top 10 of the Deloitte Football Money League, while 50% of the top 30 come from the English top flight.

TV rights have generated enormous broadcast revenues for Premier League sides, with the income from that source dwarfing those of other countries.

Last summer, Premier League clubs outlaid more than ever before in the transfer window as spending surpassed £3bn.

To highlight just how much financial power Premier League clubs have over elsewhere in Europe, the total spent in the summer window was more than was spent by Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A clubs combined.

  13. Arsenal most likely to win the Champions League, Optapublished at 11:48 GMT

It's probably not that much of a surprise. They didn't drop a single point in the league phase, but can Arsenal maintain this ruthless form in the knock-outs?

Opta certainly think so. They have the Gunners at 29.84% to win their first Champions League trophy. Their main competition, it seems, are three Premier League teams and Bayern Munich.

Tottenham, meanwhile, despite finishing in the top eight, have a lower chance than Newcastle, who finished 12th, of winning the thing.

Here's who Opta see as the top eight contenders:

    • Arsenal (29.84%)
    • Bayern Munich (14.90%)
    • Man City (10.49%)
    • Liverpool (8.95%)
    • Chelsea (7.54%)
    • Barcelona (7.01%)
    • PSG (5.10%)
    • Newcastle (3.19%)

    Below that...

    • Ranked 11th, Tottenham (2.29%)
    • Ranked 12th, Real Madrid (1.88%)

  14. Comparing Spurs' seasonpublished at 11:45 GMT

    Eintracht Frankfurt 0-2 Tottenham

Tottenham seem to be having two different seasons in the competitions they are playing in. In the Champions League they are through to the round of 16 after finishing in the top eight, in the Premier League they sit in 14th just eight points outside the relegation zone.

But what are the stats saying about the difference in their form across both competitions? Well here's all you need to know (all stats are from Opta):

    • Goals scored: 33 in 23 Premier League games v 17 in eight Champions League games
    • Goals conceded: 31 in Premier League v seven in Champions League
    • Expected goals: 24.02 in Premier League (second lowest after Wolves) v 13.97 in Champions League
    • Average points per game: 1.22 in Premier League v 2.125 in Champions League

Get Involved - The new format would be better if the play-off's were single matchespublished at 11:40 GMT

I've enjoyed the new Champions League format, but what would make it even better is if the play-offs were a single match, with the seeded teams (9th-16th) at home, and the unseeded teams (17th-24th) away. This would mean even more to play for on the final round of matches.

  16. How does the play-off draw work?published at 11:35 GMT

    Champions League

    The process is fairly simple.

Clubs are paired together based on where they finished at the end of the league phase to form seeded and unseeded pairs.

The teams that finished ninth to 16th will be in the seeded pairs, while 17th to 24th will be in unseeded pairs.

The seeded teams are drawn against unseeded teams. For example, 15th and 16th will face 17th and 18th.

The seeded teams will play the second legs at home.

As Newcastle finished in 11th position, they will be paired with 12th-placed Paris St-Germain as a seeded pair.

They are guaranteed to face either Monaco or Qarabag in the play-offs as they ended the league phase in 21st and 22nd respectively.

I'm really happy that Arsenal topped the league; it should mean we are seeded against slightly worse opposition in the next stage, and we've reduced the number of games to play, unlike Newcastle. Hopefully, that means we can progress in the tournament.

    Guy

Newcastle have done well to make the playoffs. In fact they've played better in Europe than in the league. I suspect fatigue will happen. They looked tired playing Man City in the league and to some extent against Aston Villa. Can't wait to see the playoff though!

Chelsea's victory over Napoli secured a guaranteed passage for Liam Rosenior's side into the last 16 of the Champions League.

It means the Blues have now reached the last 16 of the competition more than any other English club in history.

Chelsea have made it to this stage on 18 occasions and leapfrog London rivals Arsenal who have done so 17 times.

  19. Timeline: Chelsea's victory in Naplespublished at 11:19 GMT

    Napoli 2-3 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea sat in eighth place going into Wednesday evening's match in the final automatic qualification spot.

They were only there though via goal difference and knew they would likely have to win plus have a couple of things go their way to ensure a top eight spot.

Here's how a topsy-turvy evening in Naples unfolded:

    • 19' Enzo Fernandez gives Chelsea a 1-0 lead from the spot and moves the Blues up to sixth.
    • 33' Antonio Vergara equalises for Napoli and keeps their hopes of a play-off spot alive. Chelsea slip out of the top eight in ninth.
    • 43' Napoli complete the turnaround as Rasmus Hojlund puts the Italian side in front.
    • HT: The hosts are in the play-off spots while Chelsea slip all the way down to 12th.
    • 61' Joao Pedro equalises and in doing so knocks Napoli out of the top 24. Chelsea remain outside of the top eight.
    • 82' Pedro scores again and gives Chelsea the lead, moving them back up to sixth.
    • FT: Chelsea confirm top eight spot with victory while Napoli are knocked out of the Champions League.
