  2. Robinson lays into 'woeful' St Mirren sidepublished at 22:57 GMT 14 January

    FT: Hearts 2-0 St Mirren

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "First half, Hearts go down to 10 men. Thought we played really well, scored two goals that were disallowed.

"And then we stopped doing basics. The two goals are woeful decisions. I look back on the last four games and we've had nearly eight goals now, not doing second phase properly against Rangers. The Motherwell goals, incredible decisions. Really poor decisions last week against Falkirk. And they're inexplicable at the moment.

"All the coaching in the world, you have to step up and make the right decisions.

"Hearts were the epitome of doing the basics right. When they needed to clear it, they cleared it. When they needed to defend, they defended as a team. And they were clinical on the top end of the pitch, where chances were we absolutely gifted them. They didn't work for them.

"And that's been the story of our season."

  7. St Mirren in trouble?published at 22:38 GMT 14 January

    FT: Hearts 2-0 St Mirren

    Allan Preston
Former Hearts midfielder on BBC Sportsound

It is a big place of work for Stephen Robinson to pick St Mirren up.

I expected more when Beni Baningime was sent off. I thought it would give them a lift.

Players are not playing the passes that are going to penetrate teams and that shows they are lacking confidence.

It is not the St Mirren we know and certainly not the one that lifted the League Cup.

Neil [McCann] and Billy [Dodds] will give Kilmarnock a lift and, if Livingston start picking up points, St Mirren might be in a real battle to stay in this league.

  8. Hearts 'were in trouble' - McInnespublished at 22:36 GMT 14 January

    FT: Hearts 2-0 St Mirren

Hearts head coach Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "We were in trouble. We've got the experience of Sunday and we played similar.

"We tried to still carry a threat with three at the top of the pitch, give us a bit of oxygen and belief. Lawrence [Shankland], Claudio [Braga] and Kyzi [Kyziridis] carried the fight for us and gave us good moments without scoring.

"We reorganised at half time and St Mirren never made any changes, so the message was clear - 'this can be done'."

As for the red card, he adds: "Beni [Baningime] is the most popular boy in the dressing room, he was in tears and we had to get him out of trouble. We had enough encouragement, good breaks and the goal we score is a great bit of play.

"Our captain sets the tone, scores the goal and we have something to hang on to."

Relieved to come away with three points, with Falkirk being the better side for long periods. Trusty and Scales invite pressure on themselves - their build-up play is so slow. For me, we need centre-backs, a right winger and a striker.

  10. Shankland 'a great captain'published at 22:31 GMT 14 January

    FT: Hearts 2-0 St Mirren

    Tony Docherty
Former Dundee manager on BBC Scotland

Lawrence Shankland is a brilliant story.

He is the hardest working, he is the most professional and he will be carrying that message into the dressing room.

On top of the being goalkscorer, he is a great captain.

There is confidence growing in that squad.

  11. Weekend red card gave Hearts 'belief' - Shanklandpublished at 22:28 GMT 14 January

    FT: Hearts 2-0 St Mirren

Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland says winning with 10 men on Sunday game his side belief they could do it again.

"It's a great result," the striker tells BBC Scotland. "The circumstances go against us again with the red card. It's not like Beni, he's not a ferocious tackler.

"The other night, we went so long with 10 men that it gave us the belief that we could do it. We still carried a threat at the other end and it was important we did that.

"It's everybody, not just the defence. To get results like that, everybody needs to dig in and defend as a team. Our distances had to be good, and we managed to get our goals as well.

"St Mirren would say themselves, they're not in the best moment. It was about us trying to impose that on the game.

"Good results always bring belief for a team. We want to stay at the top and that's where we are. We're just enjoying it."

What a wonderful display. 10 men. No problem. This Hearts team has some bottle. Could it be our year.

    T-Nop

Hearts have a wonderful chance to strengthen this month with the position they are in. Let's hope they can get additional quality in the team.

    Rob

Would like to congratulate Hearts as a St Mirren supporter on a terrific performance. From a Saints point of view, players must take a good look at themselves. Simply not good enough.

  13. O'Neill seeks 'extra quality'published at 22:23 GMT 14 January

    FT: Falkirk 0-1 Celtic

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill was asked about adding players to the squad this month.

"We're hoping to do so," he tells BBC Scotland. "That's pretty necessary. We're making progress on things and certainly, by the end of the window, we should have some players to supplement this squad.

"There are reports about a lot of...I seem to get five or six per day. We are trying to make ground and we're doing pretty well I think.

"I thought my time was done here, so I wasn't expecting to pick up the pieces again and look at players.

"Just give us a little bit of time, cut me a little bit of slack and we'll be okay. The focus is to try to win some football matches, but the other aspect to it is to try to add to the squad if we can do.

"To add a bit of extra quality to help the players out here."

  15. 'We kept Celtic quiet' - McGlynnpublished at 22:18 GMT 14 January

    FT: Falkirk 0-1 Celtic

Falkirk manager John McGlynn is disappointed not to have at least taken a point from the game against the reigning champions.

"I think most neutrals will agree that we deserved to take something from the game - at least one point, maybe three points," he tells BBC Scotland.

"We had three good chances in the first half and, in the second half, Schmeichel makes a fantastic save.

"So I'm absolutely gutted for our players. They put so much into the game, they played particularly well.

"We have kept them quiet tonight. I have played Celtic before and the goalkeeper has been out best player, but that was not the case tonight."

    FT: Falkirk 0-1 Celtic

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill is relieved to take the three points against Falkirk.

"It was on a knife edge," he tells BBC Scotland. "Falkirk had some good chances in the first half and on another night they might have scored.

"We were fortunate to go in 1-0 ahead at half time. We hadn't played particular well.

"I thought the second half we started to improve a bit and got a bit tighter.

"Overall, delighted to win, but we can play much better.

"It is only 72 hours since we played brilliantly against Dundee United."
