Leicester are not out of it by any stretch of the imagination. They've still got three points to chase West Ham and Liverpool.

This isn't down and out at all. They need to galvanise and stay together because the results will come with the performance especially in that first half.

For Leicester this was an opportunity missed. They've got some big games coming up - they've still got to face Brighton, London City Lionesses and then Arsenal and Chelsea, so this was the game they really needed to get points from and they weren't able to find it.

  4. 'I am really proud of the three points'published at 17:05 GMT

Aston Villa manager Natalia Arroyo speaking about the win over Leicester: "It's a big one. We were not expecting a pretty clean, easy game. They play a lot of long balls. so we were expecting duels, 50-50s, fights, so you have to be on it.

"We weren't 100% in the first half. The best thing for me is with this type of context is how much fight we were able to give in the second half. We found an important goal straight after starting the second half and built the momentum.

"We increased the tempo and speed of play and I am really proud. Thee are the type of games we need to win, to grow, to show character. When we need to show this ambition I am really proud of the three points today."

On getting the best out of Kirsty Hanson this season: "We spoke a lot during the summer because she wants to be better, wants to help us be better as a club.

"She's not the loudest, she is maybe a little bit shy but how hard she works every day and how she fights. We spoke about how she could play a leader role and she is doing great.

"How good of a role models she is for the younger players and I am really happy with her. I am satisfied that she is having one of her best seasons so far."

  5. 'Credit to Salmon for making that huge impact'published at 17:04 GMT

Leicester were more compact in the first half but then when somebody comes on like Ebony Salmon who wants to run and dribble it kind of stretches you and forces you to go out of position at times and a little bit disjointed.

Leicester couldn't get back in their rhythm and back in their compact shape but credit to Salmon for making that huge impact.

Aston Villa striker Kirsty Hanson, speaking on BBC Two: "We knew it was going to be tough. We had the relegation battle last season so we knew they'd come out fighting."

On her goal: "I saw Ebs put her head up and somehow I had the legs to get onto [the pass]. There was no one in the box and I just hit it. Luck was on my side and it went it."

On her form this season: "It's just the belief of the team, the club and the staff have in me. I'm playing a more central role, I've been out on the wings before. I've played as a striker before and you just have more freedom."

On her missed chance in the first half: "I was really frustrated but in my head I was thinking 'it's coming Kirsty, it's coming'. You just have to keep going. I took my chance and I'm happy that hard work pays off.

"We want to finish off strong. We've had a tough run but last week has hopefully kicked us off to finish off strong."

  7. 'Villa knew they needed to up their intensity'published at 17:00 GMT

I think Aston Villa learnt a lot of lessons from that first half, they knew they needed to up their intensity, get players in the right position, start feeding balls into Hanson.

Obviously Salmon came on and was that impact player - was a bit of a spark to drive their attacks forward. Leicester didn't quite adapt to that.

Leicester did find a little bit more momentum in the last 10-15 minutes but couldn't quite get that cross in the box, that end product which we saw also in the first-half.

A real frustrating afternoon for Leicester but great for Villa.

  9. 'The season hasn't gone how we wanted'published at 16:53 GMT

FT: Leicester City 1-2 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa forward Ebony Salmon speaking to BBC Two: "We knew this wasn't going to be an easy game. We're both fighting for something in the league and the first half didn't go how we wanted to but we managed to turn it around in the second half and take home the three points."

On what Natalia Arroyo said to her before she came on as a substitute: "She just wanted me to go one-v-one and trust myself, create chances for the team and I think I was able to do that when I came on.

"I hope it's a happy team talk, we got the three points. Again, it wasn't an easy game but the aim of today was to get three points and it doesn't really matter how the game went for us. We managed to do that.

"We know the season hasn't gone the way we wanted to so far and I think with the games left we need to push on, pick up as many points as possible and climb the table as much as we can this season."

In the first five or 10 minutes of the second half you cannot afford to switch off and allow a team like Villa to find momentum. Leicester allowed that to happen.

At this level, when you're in this dogfight, they have to be so much better at those basics.

  11. 'Gut-wrenching for Leicester'published at 16:48 GMT

FT: Leicester City 1-2 Aston Villa

    Ellen White
Former England striker on BBC Two

It's absolutely gut-wrenching for Leicester and to concede in the manner that they did, right after the whistle in the second half and then a bit of a poor mistake for the second goal.

They were so positive, so direct, they got 1-0 up in the first half and then they just needed to shut up shop and be more clinical.

  12. 'Salmon was a real catalyst'published at 16:46 GMT

Former Everton defender on BBC Two

That one change in particular that Villa made at half-time, Ebony Salmon coming on and switching the game on it's head - she was a real catalyst and put Leicester under lots of pressure.

  13. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:43 GMT

    Leicester City 1-2 Aston Villa

Aston Villa end their five-match winless run after a superb second-half turnaround and push Leicester closer to that relegation play-off.

The Foxes have lost six in a row in the WSL and remain three points from safety, albeit with a game in hand.

They've got five more games to try and drag themselves off the bottom of the table.

Good chance to break, three on three, for Aston Villa but Kirsty Hanson just takes the ball into the corner.

Winning is all that matters for the away side after such a long wait.

Good run down the left from Ebony Salmon before a shot from 18 yards.

The substitute deserves a goal but she won't get it this time. Straight at Janina Leitzig.

She has just been named player of the match. Not bad off the bench.
