Seagulls remain eighth in WSL
Liverpool move five points clear of Leicester at bottom
Liverpool moved five points clear of the relegation play-off spot as they held a wasteful Brighton to a goalless draw in the Women's Super League.
The Seagulls had the better opportunities in front of goal, but they were forced to settle for a point as their winless run in the WSL stretched to four games.
Rosa Kafaji failed to beat Jennifer Falk on multiple occasions, while Fran Kirby might have done better to go alone when she found herself through on goal - rather than skew a squared pass behind an on-rushing Kafaji.
Both teams had chances to grab a dramatic winner in stoppage time, but Manuela Vanegas' header was tipped on to the crossbar, while Maelys Mpome made a sensational goalline clearance to stop Martha Thomas' header from creeping in.
Looking to win back-to-back league matches for the first time this season, Liverpool had also lacked a clinical edge when they carved out decent chances of their own.
Mia Enderby couldn't make the most of a one-on-one with Brighton keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie after sneaking in to steal possession from Marisa Olislagers.
But the visitors will feel the happier of the two sides as they head back to Merseyside with what could prove to be a crucial point.
After starting 2026 rock bottom of the table and without a win, Liverpool are now five clear of lowly Leicester, who face Aston Villa later on Sunday.
Brighton, meanwhile, remain eighth - just four points above Gareth Taylor's side.
Analysis: Both sides left to rue missed chances
After giving champions Chelsea plenty of problems in their midweek defeat, Brighton looked lively again in attack against Liverpool - particularly in the opening 45 minutes.
But just as they did against Chelsea, they failed to make those chances count.
Kafaji was their biggest threat but she was unable to chip over Falk after latching on to a brilliant ball over the top by Maisie Symonds, and Jenna Clark was there to head another effort from the Arsenal loanee off the line.
In a frantic end, Falk came to Liverpool's rescue in stoppage time when she expertly tipped Vanegas' header off the crossbar.
Nnadozie was also called into late action at the other end, parrying away Aurelie Csillag's effort before Mpome's goalline clearance in the dying seconds stopped Liverpool from claiming their first away win in the league this season.
Despite not backing up their victory over Leicester last weekend, Liverpool can take positives from their visit to the south coast.
Having struggled to pick up points early in the season, Taylor's team have now claimed 10 points from their past six games - losing only to Manchester United and Chelsea - and they appear to be in a much better place heading into the business end of the season than bottom-placed Leicester.
What's next for these teams?
Next up for Liverpool is a Merseyside derby against Everton in the WSL at Goodison Park on Saturday, 28 March (12:00 GMT), while Brighton travel to Leicester the following day (15:00 BST).
