Watford won for the first time in three Championship games

Tom Ince delivered another comeback victory for Watford with a late winner against Championship strugglers Norwich City.

Ince's first goal for 13 months saw Watford close the gap to the play-off places with their first win in three matches, but another defeat plunges the Canaries into further trouble near the foot of the table.

Philippe Clement's arrival as head coach has changed the dynamic at Norwich and the visitors defied their lowly league position to twice lead at Vicarage Road through Josh Sargent and Oscar Schwartau.

But two goals from Luca Kjerrumgaard either side of the break dragged Watford back into it and substitute Ince fired in from 12 yards.

No side in the second tier has fought their way back from losing positions as often as Watford this season and they were forced to call on their resolve again.

Norwich took the lead in the 11th minute through Sargent. The American dived in at the far post to head home Schwartau's cross after losing defender Marc Bola to end a goal drought stretching back to the end of August.

The home side were back on level terms in the 33rd minute through Kjerrumgaard after an error by Norwich goalkeeper Vladan Kovacevic who chose to punch a long-range header from Mattie Pollock which fell straight to the striker.

Norwich restored their lead just before the break through Schwartau who tapped home Emiliano Marcondes's cross after Sargent's shot had been palmed out. Again, there was a question mark over the Watford defending.

But Javi Gracia's side squared up the match again just after the hour mark with another header from Kjerrumgaard who stole in front of Jakov Medic to guide home Jeremy Ngakia's cross from the right.

Watford almost made it 3-2 soon after the leveller but Seydou Doumbia was denied at close range by Kovacevic with a header from a quickly-taken corner.

Norwich also had a good chance to go ahead with substitute Jovon Makama sending the ball wide after splitting the Watford defence with a great run.

But it was Ince who grabbed the points, drilling home a left-footed finish from Bola's pull-back.

Ince had been brought on in the first half when Watford lost playmaker Giorgi Chakvetadze - who was making his first start in seven months - to a knee injury sustained in a collision with Kovacevic.

'We need to find a better balance' - Watford reaction

Watford manager Javi Gracia told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"In the first half they were better than us. They controlled the game. The best thing for us was the reaction of the team in the second half.

"I'm not so happy today because it's not the way we want to play. We want to play in a constant way, not only in the second 45 minutes. It's something we need to improve in the next games.

"In the first half we were playing without moving the ball quickly and then it's easy for opponents.

"It's hard to come back again but we did it. I'm happy for the result but maybe for other games we didn't win I was happier than today.

"We need to find a better balance to be more competitive."

'We had more chances' - Norwich reaction

Norwich City head coach Philippe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"We could have killed the game earlier. We had the most periods in control of the game and the best chances but in the end it's about the result.

"For sure (we were) unlucky. Also some decisions I want to see back. In the first half I think there was a penalty.

"We had more chances than Watford today so then it's really disappointing that you go home without points.

"But also with the goals against - some individual players need to do better in those situations.

"We gave at least two goals away too easily where we can defend much better.

"As a team and as individuals we need to learn certain principles better.

"We're missing six or seven defenders so not one team in the world would not struggle with that."
