  1. Goodbye and see you in the weekpublished at 18:25 GMT 6 December 2025

There have certainly not been many Championship weekends like this one.

Runaway leaders Coventry saw their momentum dealt a blow by a 3-0 defeat at Ipswich, who, on their day, look more than capable of joining the Sky Blues in the promotion fight.

Their fellow relegated sides Southampton and Leicester also signalled they are ready to join the race with impressive 3-1 wins while Sheffield United romped to another win and might not linger in the lower reaches of the table for much longer.

In all we saw 35 goals across 10 completed matches, with one game abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch at Ewood Park for the second time this season while Charlton v Portsmouth was called-off in the early stages after a medical emergency in the stands.

The very sad news that a supporter had passed away reached us later. A timely reminder that, although football is 'the most important of all the unimportant things in life' there are some things which are even more precious...

Thanks for your company today, we'll see you back here on Tuesday night for the start of a full midweek programme of Championship fixtures..

  2. 'Both boxes decide games' - Wilderpublished at 18:22 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Sheff Utd 4-0 Stoke

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"We always knew we'd have to be good today but there's been a feeling that this was moving forward.

"You can do all the blocks and all the runs but the basic is a good delivery and go and attack it and I'm delighted for Mark [McGuinness].

"When we were getting criticised and we weren't winning games of football I knew we were nudging it forward. It took a bit of time but the bit in the middle has been pretty good.

"Both boxes decide games against dangerous opposition and we needed to be close to or at our best to get any kind of result.

"It looks favourable from our point of view and we'll take that but we've had to earn the right to win a game of football."

  3. 'We had to grind it out' - Neilpublished at 18:19 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Bristol City 0-1 Millwall

    Millwall

Millwall manager Alex Neil told BBC Radio London:

“Today was a grinding performance where we needed to do the nasty bits of the game well and we would get opportunities and if we could take them we’d win and that’s what we did.

“We’re not trying to kid ourselves or anyone else that we popped Bristol off the pitch but we defended resolutely and we carried a threat second half and if we can do that more often than not we can win games.

“What you have to bear in mind is how many players we have missing. For the lads to come through this test, come here to Bristol City who are a good side, manage to get the win and keep a clean sheet…brilliant.”

  4. Matos celebrates first win with Swanspublished at 18:16 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Swansea 2-0 Oxford

    Media caption,

Vitor Matos reflects on his first win in charge of Swansea City against Oxford United.

Vitor Matos said Josh Tymon's goal was "unbelievable" but insisted it was the "desire and mentality" of his Swansea side that pleased him most as they delivered a first win of his reign.

Speaking to BBC Wales after beating Oxford 2-0, Matos said: "What we saw in terms of desire and mentality. We had control of the game and at the same time we offered lots of different ways to create goals and we need to build on that.

"But now is about consistency. We were making improvements in the last games and we got the result today and especially the clean sheet which is important for the boys today to feel that we can do that and we need to keep going and improving."

Tymons scored only the third goal of his Swansea career and Matos challenged him to add more in the coming weeks.

"It was an unbelievable goal and I hope he scores more like that. But more than the goal was the way he performed today. He had a really good game, defending, supporting the attack and balancing the team."

  5. 'Too much emotion from both sides' - Struberpublished at 18:15 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Bristol City 0-1 Millwall

    Bristol City

Bristol City head coach Gerhard Struber told BBC Radio Bristol:

"Only the referee has something against this goal with offside. We realised very quickly it was not offside.

"We could hear the coaching group from Millwall have something to say about it. In the end there was a little bit too much emotion from both sides.

"Sometimes the emotion goes over and we have to accept that.

"This is something we don't want to see but the kick-off was an outstanding wrong decision from the referee. They have a big responsibility to make the right decision.

"This is not normal and we don't want to see a picture like that but it is crystal clear that sometimes the emotion goes over."

"No-one knows in the whole stadium why he gave offside. In the end it was something that had a really big domino effect."

  6. 'A fantastic result despite performance' - Stephanpublished at 18:14 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: QPR 3-1 West Brom

    QPR

QPR head coach Julien Stephan told BBC Radio London:

“I don’t know if it’s a fantastic performance but it's a fantastic result for us. In the first half [it] was a tight game, with not a lot of situations offensively, but we had a very good move just before the end, a great delivery from Nicolas Madsen and a great finish by Jonathan [Varane].

“That changed the game because in the second half we had more space and started well with a good second goal and a great situation to score the third one as well.

"They scored for 2-1 but I know the mindset of these players, they want to continue to attack and we scored the third.

“Credit to the players because I wanted them to confirm the last win at home against Hull, so that’s two home wins and a third win in the last four games, so it’s a good run.”

  7. 'We gave ourselves a mountain to climb' - Daviespublished at 18:10 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Southampton 3-1 Birmingham

    Birmingham City

Birmingham City boss Chris Davies speaking after the game:

"I think it was always going to be a challenge but the first 20 minutes, we weren't strong enough or physically quick enough onto the ball.

"We paid the price for it because we gave ourselves a mountain to climb at 2-0 down against a team with a lot of good players away from home.

"The first 20 minutes was not what we've been talking about or what we wanted to deliver in terms of our solidity and strength in that period away from home.

"But obviously they had a couple of moments which we just have to defend better today"

  8. 'We didn't deserve fans' applause' - Robinspublished at 18:08 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Sheff Utd 4-0 Stoke

    Stoke City

    Media caption,

Stoke City manager Mark Robins speaks to Mark Elliott after defeat to Sheffield United.

Stoke City boss Mark Robins told BBC Radio Stoke:

"It's a disappointing result and a disappointing performance from the first set play.

"Don't over-react is my first thought even though it wasn't anything near where we want to be or need to be. I've spoken all season about the unwritten contract between us and the supporters and we fell way below that.

"We need to lick our wounds and make sure this doesn't happen again.

"I know exactly what's happened and it's an easy one to sort out as long as you want to go and head the ball and don't get pushed around.

"It's a chastening afternoon. It hurts, it stings but it's part of football.

"It is what it is. You always feel for the supporters who paid their money and travelled and they were brilliant because they were applauding us and I don't think we deserved that. I think we deserved a slap but we've certainly had one from Sheffield United."

  9. 'We know we're capable of that'published at 18:06 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Ipswich 3-0 Coventry

    Ipswich Town

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk:

“We showed resilience in the first half when the game was cagey and there wasn't much flow to it. We stuck to our jobs and then scored a really good first goal from Sindre and after that I thought it was a really good performance.

“We showed quality with the ball and composure in the second half and belief to play through the pressure. We defended well and counter-attacked well and I thought we were good value for it.

“We know where we’re at. We’re developing as a team, but there’s still inconsistencies there that we’re working through.

“But we know when teams give us space, whenever we have the confidence we know we can play really, really well and I also know that we can defend really well.

“We know we’re capable of performances like that, but we also know it’s a brutal, relentless 46-game league and it’s about consistency and how you go after a good day and after a bad day, the strength of your mentality, it tests all those things.

“So we’ll take the positives today, but it’s all about moving on to Wednesday.”

  11. 'Something has to be fixed at Blackburn'published at 18:02 GMT 6 December 2025

Blackburn 1-0 Sheff Wed - match abandoned due to waterlogged pitch

    Media caption,

Blackburn's game against Sheffield Wednesday was abandoned at Ewood Park

BBC Radio Lancashire summariser Paul Gallagher said the right decision was made to call off the game against Sheffield Wednesday just before the hour mark.

"The ref's made a decision earlier than the last game against Ipswich (on 20 September), he tried his best to get the game back on but we could see from our point of view the ball wasn't bouncing, it was dangerous, I think he made the right decision.

"It's really disappointing that two home Championship games have been called off.

"When you see the rain coming down here the players are probably thinking the game is in doubt, even before you kick-off. It's frustration all round."

"Are there going to be consequences for Blackburn in terms of a fine because it's happened twice in the same season? There are questions to be answered.

"A Championship fixture should never be called off, for some reason, whether it's the drainage, something has to be fixed - on the pitch as well as off it at this club."

  12. 'I'm a bad loser, I hate defeats' - Lampardpublished at 18:00 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Ipswich 3-0 Coventry

    Coventry

Coventry City boss Frank Lampard told BBC Radio CWR:

“We were winning everything in the first half, the second balls were dropping to us, we were the team who had the real personality. Great organisation, work ethic off the ball, everything was great and we restricted them.

“And they get a goal from a bit of a mess at a corner. Then you’ve got a difficult job, but I still thought the players kept going.

“3-0, I don’t like it, of course. I’m a bad loser, I hate defeats and I’ll analyse them and maybe react to the players.

“My only reaction is for them to understand that they approach this game against a parachute team with a big squad and players they can bring off the bench.

“We don’t have to focus on that, but I’m relatively pleased and proud with how we approached the game.

“Circumstances happen, I don’t like losing and the reaction is the only important thing.

“But in terms of the game I thought anyone who was here and saw that first half will realise this isn’t Coventry from the first half of last season, this is a team that wants to try and go and do something. Today we didn’t but it can happen.”

  13. Great advert for Championship - Parkinsonpublished at 17:57 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Preston 1-1 Wrexham

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said his side's draw with Preston was a "great advert for the Championship".

"Two very honest teams going to head to head, chances at both ends, incredible honesty on display and a real credit to both football clubs," the Dragons boss told BBC Radio Wales.

  14. 'The formula isn't there at the moment' - Masonpublished at 17:54 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: QPR 3-1 West Brom

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom head coach Ryan Mason told BBC Radio WM:

“In the first half we were far too passive, and to concede just before half time wasn’t ideal, but we came out in the second half and showed a bit more intent, a a bit more bravery, a bit more energy, and a bit more quality.

“But we gifted them the second goal, which you just can’t do. Then we got ourselves back in the game again and were playing OK but the third goal was super disappointing as well.

“The formula isn’t there at the moment away from home, that’s for sure, and we need to try and change.”

On Joe Wildsmith starting: “Josh [Griffiths] has been good, it’s his first season at this level - that requires a different level of intensity, and Joe has trained well, and the feeling was that it was the flight time to make a change in that area.”

  15. 'It's a happy camp' – Armstrongpublished at 17:51 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Southampton 3-1 Birmingham

Double goalscorer Adam Armstrong said it was "happy camp" in the Southampton dressing room after getting back on the winning trail against Birmingham

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent after scoring his fourth and fifth goals in five games and his 11th in 12 games against Birmingham Armstrong said it was important that Tonda Eckert's side bounced back.

"We had a set back last week and we knew it was a tough place to go to [they lost 3-2 at Millwall]," he said. "But we drilled into the lads all week that we have to bounce back and that is exactly what we have done.

"It was good but it was tough in moments in the second half as we knew they were going to push. We have lads with quality to defend the crosses and yeah it’s an amazing three points.

"It's a happy camp. It has been a bit of confidence [that is the difference]. We know as a group how badly we started so it is all about getting the wins and keeping the confidence going in the group.

Asked about the start made by new manager Tonda Eckert, Armstrong said: "Most of the boys have said it. He has been spot on since he has come in and I am buzzing for him."

  16. 'Don't underestimate this win'published at 17:48 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Southampton 3-1 Birmingham

    Southampton

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert speaking after the game:

“I said to the boys to not underestimate this win today because it was not an easy one.

“We needed to defend well, especially in a game like today, if we want to make the next step we need to get the clean sheet too, which means we have some work to do.

On being appointed on a permanent basis: “I knew that I wanted to do everything that I can for this football club from the very first day, I will do my best to put this football club where it belongs.”

When are the EFL going to do their job and sort out what's going on at Blackburn? Two match abandonments for rain is disgraceful at this level. Do the EFL care about the competition's integrity or not? Venky's certainly don't.

    Dan E, Ipswich

As a Blackburn fan this just highlights the lack of investment from the owners, they tried to brush it off last time as a one off, give the three points to Wednesday, it's the only way they'll learn!

  18. 'I've been happier after games we didn't win'published at 17:41 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Watford 3-2 Norwich

    Watford

Watford have claimed 18 points from losing positions this season after coming from behind to beat Norwich at Vicarage Road.

Hornets manager Javi Gracia told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"In the first half they were better than us. They controlled the game. The best thing for us was the reaction of the team in the second half.

"I'm not so happy today because it's not the way we want to play. We want to play in a constant way, not only in the second 45 minutes. It's something we need to improve in the next games.

"In the first half we were playing without moving the ball quickly and then it's easy for opponents.

"It's hard to come back again but we did it. I'm happy for the result but maybe for other games we didn't win I was happier than today.

"We need to find a better balance to be more competitive."

  19. 'We had the better chances'published at 17:38 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Watford 3-2 Norwich

    Norwich City

After seeing his side surrender a lead at Watford, Norwich City head coach Philippe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"We had the most periods in control of the game and the best chances but in the end it's about the result.

"For sure (we were) unlucky. Also some decisions I want to see back. In the first half I think there was a penalty.

"We had more chances than Watford today so then it's really disappointing that you go home without points.

"But also with the goals against - some individual players need to do better in those situations.

"We gave at least two goals away too easily where we can defend much better.

"As a team and as individuals we need to learn certain principles better.

"We're missing six or seven defenders so not one team in the world would not struggle with that."

  20. Supporter dies after medical emergency at The Valleypublished at 17:34 GMT 6 December 2025

    Charlton A-A Portsmouth

Devestating news came out of The Valley this afternoon that really does put football in perspective.

Charlton's match against Portsmouth had to be abandoned due to a supporter falling ill in the crowd.

Play was halted and the players were taken off the field before it was announced the match would not continue as the medical emergency continued after the fan had been taken out of the Covered Stand.

Later in the afternoon Charlton put out a statement to say that supporter had died.

Our thoughts are with their family and friends and everyone at the club at this sad time.
