Alfie Devine's header ended Preston's four-match winless streak and leaves them seventh in the Championship table, outside the top six on goal difference.

Lilywhites head coach Paul Heckingbottom has been speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire:

"It was hard fought, a very good three points in the end.

"I don't think we'll get many pretty games on that pitch but we might get good and exciting ones for different reasons and that one got tense.

"We never really opened them up to get that second goal which would have been nice so we had to defend our box well which we did, so I was pleased we could get the three points in the end."

Portsmouth fell to just a second Championship defeat in six outings and remain just one point clear of the relegation zone.

Head coach John Mousinho has been telling BBC Radio Solent:

"If you look at the balance of the game and how good we were for 90 minutes we're scratching our heads why we didn't put one of our chances in the net.

"We looked more dangerous as the game went on from set pieces."

    On striker Jacob Brown's debut:

"He led the line well considering it's new territory for him, he was always going to tire after 60 minutes so it was always the plan to bring him off but I thought he looked promising."

Hull fell to only their second defeat in the past 10 matches as they failed to capitalise on leaders Coventry being held to a 0-0 draw at Oxford.

The Tigers have slipped to fourth in the table.

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside:

"We made a lot of crucial mistakes in today's game.

"We started well, we controlled their everything, but after a while we started to lose easy duels or easy balls, we were very soft in those duels and they had a good two chances when it was 0-0.

"We took the lead with with a nice action, great finishing from Oli and then we brought them into the game with our two mistakes.

"Two cheap goals because we are there with the numbers, we can control those players there, but when you make those mistakes it's mostly a goal, they punish you immediately."

Phil Parkinson reflects on his side's home defeat by Millwall

Wrexham had 16 shots, including five on target, but just could not find the back of the net against Millwall.

Manager Phil Parkinson told BBC Sport Wales:

"We've deserved something from the game, but it's about moments. It was always going to be a tight game, two teams in the top six.

"There was nothing really in it, although in the first half I thought we had the better of the play.

"The goal we conceded has come from absolutely nothing. We've had two great chances and should have had a penalty when Thommo [George Thomason] has had a shot and I can't see how the referee hasn't given that.

"Then out of absolutely nothing we end up 2-0 down and the scoreline is not a fair reflection on the game."

Leicester had Bobby De Cordova-Reid sent-off and were behind inside three minutes as they lost at Birmingham.

Goal difference is keeping them out of the relegation zone and interim head coach Andy King has told BBC Radio Leicester:

"We need to stop giving ourselves mountains to climb at the start of games. That's two games where we've made it really difficult for ourselves.

"The response from going behind early was really good, worked our way back into the game, got the goal back and thought here we go but we shoot ourselves in the foot.

"Ultimately it's about points on the board and we didn't get that today which is frustrating."

On Bobby De Cordova-Reid's red card:

"I didn't see it, it was on the other side of the pitch so I haven't seen it yet.

"The team in isolation did well and did what we asked of them but we did it with 10 men.

"We can't shoot ourselves in the foot and expect to get out of jail."

    On the six-point deduction:

"It is what it is. We're down near the bottom now so at least we now have clarity on that and it's up to us to make sure we move the club up from that.

"We've waited all season - at least now we know so we can try to act accordingly and actually move away from the bottom three."

Leicester are in real trouble. In a relegation battle. What do they need to do to survive? stop with the self-inflicted errors and control the controllable.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s red card, a second in as many games from a Leicester player, was totally unnecessary. There was no danger in midfield, the challenge was unneeded, and if he’d stayed on his feet… the Foxes would have had 11 men for 90 minutes.

Birmingham’s first goal came from Ricardo Pereira dawdling in possession.

Cut out those two errors and Leicester could easily have been leaving with something from the match. Especially when you have players of the quality Abdual Fatawu in your side, a match-winner with the ability to score screamers… and bagged a stunner today!

  9. 'We made them run'published at 17:51 GMT 7 February

Birmingham are within two points of the Championship's play-off places as they made it six games unbeaten by beating 10-man Leicester.

Blues head coach Chris Davies has told BBC Radio WM:

"We got off to a great start with (Ibrahim) Oman's press and finish - I liked how we started with real intent.

"I was frustrated with their goal - it was a nice finish but frustrated we didn't deal with the cross.

"It was a definite red card and from then, as I said to the players it's a mental game at 10 v 11, because you can get frustrated and think it should be easy.

"We made them run and opened spaces which we exploited in the end."

  10. 'Resilience today was on a high level' - Struberpublished at 17:47 GMT 7 February

Bristol City bounced back from a bruising 5-0 defeat to Derby at home to reignite their push for the top six, with a 3-2 win away at in-form Hull.

Despite going 1-0 down, Bristol City scored three goals before Hull scored in the 78th minute to set up a nervous finale.

Bristol City head coach Gerhard Struber told BBC Radio Bristol:

"Really pleased, especially with the reaction. We know what we had one week ago and today was reaction time and the boys showed a really good phase against a team who had really big momentum, form and many many wins.

"The win and performance was on a really high level otherwise you could not win here.

"The resilience was today on a really high level and this is something you need in the championship, front-foot style players always ready to press them high, also players who have a smart understanding of what the game needs. Our box defending was great and brings the points home - not easy but we did it.

"Our togetherness, the willingness, to win this game was really high and next to the grit which was very important and the key to win this game."

Millwall opened up a six-point gap over their play-off rivals Wrexham, with a 2-0 win against the Red Dragons.

Wrexham defender Max Cleworth a cross into his own net to put the Lions 1-0 up and despite the hosts almost totally dominating, Josh Coburn struck in a second in the 85th minute - Millwall's first shot on target.

Millwall boss Alex Neil told BBC Sport:

"It was an important win. It was a tight game and both teams had their moments.

"Wrexham make you have to defend your box well. It was always going to be a game where we had to defend well.

"A slice of fortune with the first goal, and they had a few moments, but it was always going to be a tight game.

"I thought today was the perfect away performance from us."

Hate to say it, but this defeat for Hull has been coming, as we’ve relied on breaks and poor finishing from opponents to win games. Well played Bristol City.

Freefall. No clean sheet for 25 games. Back-to-back relegations beckon. Daring to challenge the PL top six all those years ago with a high wage-to-revenue ratio has come back to haunt us, and it's all a very sad state of affairs. Hard to see us turning this around.

Managerless Blackburn dropped back into the relegation zone on goal different with a 2-0 loss away at Norwich, one of their rivals near the bottom of the table.

Blackburn caretaker boss Damien Johnson told BBC Radio Lancashire:

“Obviously I’m very disappointed with the result. Overall, for 70, 75 minutes or whatever it was, there wasn’t a lot on it.

“We were in the game and we had some opportunities, second-half opportunities, first-half, in terms of our crosses, territory and momentum. We obviously knew Norwich would have some moments as well.

“We were punished for just for two moments - a poor header and then just a slip so overall, disappointed.

“We nullified them for large parts. You can’t think they had many clear-cut chances and I don’t remember Balazs making too many saves.

"In football, you’re playing against good sides and you can get punished as we were today.”

Norwich head coach Philippe Clement speaks following the win over Blackburn.

Norwich continue their revival under Philippe Clement with their fourth win in five games as they beat Blackburn 2-0, to move four points clear of the bottom three.

Anis Ben Slimane scored his fourth goal in five games to make it 1-0 before Mohamed Toure's debut sealed the win.

Norwich boss Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk:

“All credit for the hard work and organisation of Blackburn today, they did everything to stop us.

“Also in December, they had a 0-0 at Middlesbrough so it’s not a surprise to us that they could defend like they did. But in the end, we were the team who were dominant today, although the start of the game was, for me, not good enough.

"But we dominated the game and we deserve to win.

“We had the most chances. We almost didn't concede any chances in this game so that's a real positive.”

On Papa Diallo and Jovon Makama’s injuries: “Papa could not start the game, so that doesn't look good, and also Jovon not. That was a really unlucky one, stepping on somebody's arm or hand in a duel and then twisting his leg. Let’s see the next couple of days and I can only hope and pray.”

Ipswich collected only their fifth away win of the season in the Championship at Derby thanks to a Lewis Travis own goal and a Leif Davis header.

Head coach Kieran McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk:

"I really enjoyed that one, maybe more than many games this year and we've had some really good wins.

"We played some really good football - the first goal was a bit lucky but we should have been two or three up.

"We gave away a poor penalty when I didn't think they looked like scoring but had to show a response and it was a brilliant response."

Derby County missed the chance to move into the top six of the Championship as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Ipswich at lunchtime.

They also had skipper Lewis Travis sent-off.

Rams head coach John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby:

“I thought we were excellent today. It’s frustrating to lose but I am very proud of the effort. I think you can see how we are growing and evolving as a team

“Our football, at times, was really good. There are still lots of improvements to come, but we are playing against a top, top team with fantastic players. You can see the players they brought off the bench today and that’s what we are competing against.

“I thought we went toe-to-toe with them and I don’t think we deserved to lose the game. There are lots of positives to take from today.

“I would have loved to have started a bit quicker. It’s disappointing we couldn’t get a second. We need to be better in the final third. But we are still learning.”
