PSG are an opponent Liverpool know very well.

The Reds have faced them six times previously in European competition, most recently in last season's Champions League round of 16.

A penalty shootout win confirmed Liverpool were out of the running, with PSG goalkeeper at the time Gianluigi Donnarumma proving to be the hero, saving penalties from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones.

PSG's win saw them qualify for their ninth Champions League quarter-final, while Liverpool were eliminated from a major European knockout tie for the first time ever after winning the first leg away from home - progressing from 30 straight ties before their shootout defeat.

Each team has three wins each against the other and something will have to give this time around.

Arsenal should be at least getting to the final after their relatively easy draw. As it’s the Champions League and Liverpool are of course royalty, they can also make the final. Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal thanks to a Sbozo free-kick.

Liverpool's reward for their impressive victory against Galatasaray is none other than the team that knocked them out of last season's Champions League - Paris St-Germain.

The French champions beat the Reds on penalties in last year's round of 16, with now Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma proving to be the hero on the night.

PSG would ultimately go on to win the competition and deservedly so after thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the final.

It begs the question where Liverpool could have got to had they won that penalty shootout.

And while the Reds won't be dwelling on the past, they will have revenge on their minds for last year's defeat.

Just like last season, Arne Slot's men will travel to Paris for the first leg before returning to Anfield for the second.

Those games will take place on 8 April and 14 April, respectively.

Liverpool will lose to PSG, Arsenal in the semis when they play a decent team.

    Noel, Manchester

PSG will absolutely stomp on Liverpool. It might be embarrassing in terms of the scoreline. Don't let last night's result fool you.

    Timmy, Enfield

Liverpool will go out to PSG. They just don't have the minerals to make it past the quarter-finals. But I'm happy for them after beating Galatasaray.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot, speaking to TNT Sports about Mohamed Salah, who scored his 50th Champions League goal: "I think it says a lot about his mentality that he missed the penalty which was a difficult moment. He then produced a great assist and then his goal is just a trademark of his.

"It means a lot for me and the players to get love from the fans. Anfield showed we can create an atmosphere better than Galatasaray at their place. Our fans reacted when they saw that they were wasting time and that helped a lot."

I think it's trying to settle on a team and system that works. It's not only the personnel but it's the system and at the moment, this system is getting the most out of the players and the team as a whole. We know that Arne Slot likes to tinker and make changes and that's the problem at the moment.

When you need results now, who can you look at who can give you a good performance? Liverpool need to find that consistency now, before the end of the season.

Tom 8.37. I’ve been slots biggest critic but credit where credit is due. We didn’t allow them to play absolutely smothered them from back to front. We didn’t take our foot of the gas always going forward looking to score, you’re a bit harsh mate as thumbs down show.

    Bolo Zenden
Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It’s one of those spectacular nights that you can expect on a Champion’s League evening, the fans were obviously more than good for them yesterday...Anfield on a European night can be magical.

Arne Slot needed a bit of a result and also a good performance once again ti prove he’s the right man, I think up until the end of the season I think the pressure will stay on but I think it shows he can still manage the team and turn things around.

Defensively they’ve lacked a bit… and also up front, when you create 10 chances, of course you need to put away at least 4 of them, but if they don’t, they’re always likely to concede on the other end and that’s what happened too often this season.

It was a pity to see him [Salah] shoot the penalty like he did, I think we’ve never seen him take a penalty like he did yesterday, but it was quickly forgotten… to score a typical Mo Salah goal, his 50th goal in the European completion, the first African player to do so is something to take as a very positive.

Salah has a lot in his locker and that’s why he’s still at Liverpool and wants to prove himself.

Watching PSG play Chelsea, I can't see Liverpool progressing. Arsenal should get past Sporting, though.

    Guy, Nottingham

I am a bit worried about Liverpool going up against PSG. They take no prisoners there in Paris, and they love to play English clubs.

    Sophie, Liverpool

I'd expect Arsenal to get to the semis, Liverpool also if last night's Liverpool turn up in both legs against PSG. Honestly not convinced either can go any further but best of luck!

    Liverpool

Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike, speaking to TNT Sports: "We deserve to be here, so we're really happy. We did a really good job tonight, we could have won 10-0, so we can look forward to the quarter-final.

"We made a few changes at half-time and then when I took my chance we felt more free. Everybody did a great job and ran for each other.

On Mohamed Salah: "He's a legend. Sometimes people say he has a difficult season, but he's been an important player for years. I'm really happy for him scoring his 50th goal."

  13. Everything seemed to 'click' for Liverpoolpublished at 09:05 GMT

Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray (4-1 on agg)

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on The Football Daily Podcast at Anfield

I know they've stuttered at times this season... The performance that they got tonight was so dominant and so impressive from Liverpool that fans will go away from here tonight, they'll be absolutely delighted, but it'd be like, 'Why can't we do that on a regular basis, the consistency?'

But I think you focus on the positives tonight, in the second half, they were just superb. They really were for all the possession and the territorial advantage that they've had, not just tonight, but in other games, they really capitalised on it. They look sharp. They look quick. Whatever he said to them at halftime really had the desired effect.

Mo Salah almost looked back to his best. Helooked sharp. He looked at it. He was chasing the ball down.

[Dominic] Sobozslai has been instrumental to everything that they do, and for me, he's been their best player this season.

Everything just seemed to click. The fluidity the front foot, the closing down, the performance in the final third... That Liverpool performance in the second half, is arguably one of the best of the season.

  14. 'When your second leg’s at Anfield, I never write Liverpool off'published at 09:00 GMT

Liverpool 4-0 Galatasary (4-1 on agg)

    Andros Townsend
Former Tottenham midfielder on The Football Daily Podcast

At Galatasary, their hostile home ground, Liverpool struggled. But once they got them back to Anfield, they were probing, they were patient. Once they opened them up with a set-piece goal, they really did let their dominance show. And Liverpool at Anfield [is] such a tough place in the Champions League for any team to come.

So yeah, it’s going to be tough [the quarter-finals], they’re facing the best side in Europe in PSG, but when your second leg’s at Anfield, I never write Liverpool off in any game.

For once, Liverpool were not predictable and pedestrian in their play, although helped by a passive opponent. I only hope Slot has learnt something! We will need performances like that for every remaining game we have left.

    James, Norwich

As a Liverpool fan, it was a confidence boost we all needed, but we’re not getting carried away. Galatasaray’s away record is very poor. PSG will be a completely different challenge. Need to stay in the game and hope the Anfield factor plays its part once more.

  16. 'We were all in tonight'published at 08:51 GMT

Liverpool 4-0 Galatasaray (4-1 on agg)

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai speaking to TNT Sports: "We needed that. I think today we showed the right direction and what we want to show everybody and each other. It starts with us and I know the fans can be unhappy with us but I think it's a good step for us and it's the first time for me.

"I don't really care how I'm scoring, I just want to help the team succeed. It looks like I have more than a right foot! I just tried to hit the goal and as long as it goes in, that's the important thing. I'm trying to do my best for the team and I'm trying to take more responsibility because that's how you grow and become a better player."

On comparisons with Steven Gerrard: "When I was a child, I was watching him play, it's a real compliment getting compared to him. I'm happy to play for this club and wear the number eight.

"From the first minute of the game we were on Galatasaray, I took it a bit personally that they were celebrating after the first leg but it gave us a little push. We were all in tonight."

    Stephen Warnock

It's a toss of the coin every week which Liverpool team is going to turn up. The big thing is how are they going to motivate themselves.

Galatasaray were bang average. It's great they came out and played well. The question now is can they do it away at Brighton? We've seen them have some great recoveries like this this season btu then they don't follow it up in the next game.

I know Liverpool have stuttered at times this season but the performance that they got tonight was so dominant and impressive.

The fans will be delighted but wondering why they can't be consistent. Why can't they do that all the time? They looked so on it tonight, so sharp and quick. Mo Salah looked back on it tonight. Everything just seemed to click.

That Liverpool performance in the second half was one of the best this season. Galatasaray were pretty passive tonight but Liverpool didn't let them back into the game.
