Match Facts

  • Juventus’ 5-2 defeat in the first leg against Galatasaray was just the second time they’ve lost the first leg of a major European knockout tie by a 3-goal margin, after the 2017-18 UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid (0-3 first leg, 3-1 second leg).

  • Galatasaray have progressed from all 11 of their knockout ties in European competition when winning the first leg by at least three goals (including qualifiers).

  • Before this season, there have been 49 occasions of a team losing the first leg of a UEFA Champions League knockout stage tie by 3+ goals; only four of those have progressed to the next round – Deportivo de La Coruña (2003-04 vs Milan), Barcelona (2016-17 vs PSG), Roma (2017-18 vs Barcelona) and Liverpool (2018-19 vs Barcelona).

  • Juventus have won just one of their seven meetings with Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League (D3 L3), beating them 2-1 at home in September 2003.

  • Galatasaray have never won away in 13 attempts against Italian sides in major European competition (D6 L7), though only one of those results would see them eliminated from this tie (0-5 vs Milan in March 1963).

  • Juventus’ 5-2 defeat in the first leg was just the second time they’ve conceded 5+ goals in a match in major European competition, following a 7-0 loss to Wiener Sport-Club in the 1958-59 UEFA European Cup.

  • Galatasaray are on the brink of reaching the UEFA Champions League round of 16 for the first time since 2013-14. However, they’ve lost 46 of their 65 away games in the competition, the second highest loss rate of any side with at least 50 games on the road (71%, behind Olympiakos).

  • Weston McKennie has been involved in four goals in his last five UEFA Champions League games for Juventus (3 goals, 1 assist), making 2025-26 his best return for goal involvements in the competition.

  • Noa Lang scored twice on his UEFA Champions League debut for Galatasaray in the first leg, as many goals he’d scored in his previous 29 appearances in the competition. Only two players have scored in both of their first two games for the Turkish side – Ümit Karan in 2001 and Victor Osimhen this season.

  • Gabriel Sara created seven chances against Juventus in the first leg, the most on record (since 2003-04) by a Galatasaray player in a UEFA Champions League match. He also became just the second player to both score and assist in a knockout stage match for the Turkish side, after Wesley Sneijder in April 2013 vs Real Madrid.
