Fenerbahçe and Roma will face each other for the first time here. The Turkish side have lost five of their six games against Italian sides in the UEFA Champions League to date (W1), although their one win did come in the most recent one at home (1-0 v Internazionale in September 2007).

The last Italian team to win away to a Turkish team in the UEFA Champions League was Milan in November 2005 (4-0 v Fenerbahçe). Since then, none of the last five to play there in the competition have won (D2 L3).

This will be Fenerbahçe’s first UEFA Champions League match since December 2008 (0-1 v Dynamo Kyiv). Including qualifiers, they have played 154 games in Europe since they last featured in the Champions League (W72 D42 L40).

Roma will play in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign. They have only won their opening game in one of their last six participations (D2 L3), winning 5-1 v CSKA Moscow in 2014-15.

Fenerbahçe will start a UEFA Champions League campaign with a home match for the fourth time, while they have won two of the previous three (L1), only losing to Barcelona in 2001-02. The last Champions League season they opened with a home game was a 1-0 win over Italian opposition, beating Internazionale in September 2007.

Including qualifiers, Fenerbahçe have only lost five of their last 32 home matches in European competition (W20 D7). Both of their home defeats since the start of last season were against English sides (W5 D3), losing to Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest in the UEFA Europa League last term.

If Fenerbahçe lose this game, it will be the first time since September 2009 that they have lost three consecutive home matches in major European competition.

Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini has only lost four of his last 23 group stage/league phase games in the UEFA Champions League (W10 D9), with his Atalanta side only losing one of their eight league phase fixtures in the 2024-25 edition (W4 D3).

Fenerbahçe striker Romelu Lukaku could come up against former club Roma in this game. The Belgian has scored four goals in his last six appearances against the Italian side, including the winner in his last home game against them (Napoli 1-0 Roma in November 2024).

Roma’s Paulo Dybala has been directly involved in 12 goals in his last 16 starts in the UEFA Champions League (11 goals, one assist), although hasn’t appeared in the competition since March 2022 for Juventus (v Villarreal).
