Andoni Iraola's first match in charge of Liverpool at Anfield ended with a 3-2 defeat to Monaco. Liverpool raced into a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Alexander Isak and the brilliance of Florian Wirtz but the French side came from behind and scored a late winner through Paris Brunner.

The Reds were boosted by the return of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo to the starting XI as the trio featured for the first time since this summer's World Cup.

But there was no Curtis Jones, who was out as a precaution with a hip problem.

Liverpool conclude their pre-season campaign with a friendly against Como next Sunday (6pm BST) at Anfield. The clubs will also contest a game earlier that same day behind closed doors, kicking off at 12pm BST.

So how did Iraola's players rate?

Alisson: Made some decent saves on his first appearance after the World Cup but had no chance for Aleksandr Golovin's penalty. Liverpool could do with him staying fit this season. Replaced at half-time by Giorgi Mamardashvili. 7

Jeremie Frimpong: Looked sharp and his pace will always cause the opposition problems but he has to stop going regularly offside. 6

Virgil van Dijk: Like Alisson, showed why he is so important to this side but the Liverpool skipper gave away a reckless penalty towards the end of the first half that allowed Monaco a way back in. 6

Ifeanyi Ndukwe: So composed for an 18-year-old centre-back. Such a shame that he can't play competitive football for Liverpool this season after failing to qualify for a work permit. Went off at half-time for Wataru Endo. 7

Kostas Tsimikas: Had some bright moments but hard to see how he gets in ahead of Milos Kerkez. The Greek left-back has got to improve his final delivery. 5

Dominik Szoboszlai: Played a one-two with Ryan Gravenberch in the build up for the first goal. Another impressive all-round display. 7

Ryan Gravenberch: Did brilliantly to tee up Alexander Isak for his goal and like Szoboszlai, looked comfortable both in and out of possession. 7

Lewis Koumas: Really should have scored in the first half when he skied over but his work-rate showed why Andoni Iraola rewarded him with a place in the side. The 20-year-old started down the right wing and was involved in second goal. 7

Florian Wirtz: A class apart. Had an early effort saved by Lukas Hradecky but was constantly at the heart of Liverpool's attacking play. Initially looked as though he scored the second but Isak claimed the final touch, but he won't care as he continues to grow in importance for Iraola. 8

Cody Gakpo: Like Alisson and Van Dijk, this was his first appearance in pre-season and he looked threatening. Fired wide early on and his header helped lead to Wirtz's goal. 7

Alexander Isak: Started off with some good touches and took his first goal really well with a solid finish past Hradecky, before getting the final touch to claim Liverpool's second. The Anfield crowd will certainly want more of that this season. 8

Giorgi Mamardashvili (on 46): Came on at half-time and made a decent save to initally deny Mika Biereth but couldn't keep out his second effort nor Monaco's winner. 6

Wataru Endo (on 46): Made his first Liverpool appearance since February, coming on at centre-back for Ndukwe. Should have got rid of the ball before Biereth scored the equaliser for Monaco. 5

Luke Chambers (on 59): Naturally a left-back but partnered Endo at centre-back when he came on for Van Dijk. 6

Milos Kerkez (on 59): Replaced Tsimikas on the hour mark, with Iraola keen to see the link-up between him and Victor Munoz down the left flank. Should have done better defensively for Paris Brunner's winner. 5

James McConnell (on 59): The 21-year-old midfielder was given half an hour but struggled to impose himself on the game. 5

Trey Nyoni (on 59): Fresh off the back of a brilliant pre-season tour in the USA, Nyoni again showed why he will be a handy option in midfield for Liverpool this season, especially if Curtis Jones leaves this summer. 6

Rio Ngumoha (on 59): Played down the right again and as always, asked plenty of questions of the Monaco backline. The 17-year-old is still adjusting to playing on a different flank but he certainly has the raw attributes to make it work. 6

Victor Munoz (on 59): Came on for his Liverpool debut. Played down the left and showed how dangerous he can be with his pace. 6

Calvin Ramsay (on 75): Finished the game at right-back after replacing Jeremie Frimpong. 5

Harvey Elliott (on 75): Made his Anfield return after his loan spell at Aston Villa. Got a lovely cheer from the crowd but didn't do anything of note. 5

Federico Chiesa (on 75): Interesting that the Italian only got 15 minutes. Has spoken about his desire to stay at Anfield but will have to work himself into contention. Beaten by Paris Brunner in the air for Monaco's late winner. 5
