Maria McAneny's debut goal rescued a draw for Melissa Andreatta's Scotland in a frustrating friendly draw against Ukraine.

Roksolona Kravchuk slotted Ukraine in front just before half-time and they looked good value to hang on to that result as Scotland failed to break them down for long periods in Cadiz.

However, in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time, Celtic midfielder McAneny - introduced as a 69th-minute substitute - fired into the roof of the net from close range to spare Scotland's blushes.

Scotland face China in another friendly on Tuesday before attention turns to their World Cup qualifying group with Belgium, Israel and Luxembourg next year.

Andreatta said pre-match that Scotland's women had been inspired by the men's national team ending their World Cup drought earlier this month and started on the front foot in the Spanish sunshine.

Erin Cuthbert and Caroline Weir both asked questions with testing set-piece deliveries early on, but Martha Thomas could only shoot straight at Ukraine goalkeeper Kateryna Samson and Sophie Howard headed a decent chance over the top as Ukraine sat deep and held their shape.

And that wastefulness cost them before half-time as Ukraine sliced through with a clever one-two before Kravchuk found the bottom corner.

Scotland continued to have the bulk of possession after the interval and should have equalised sooner than they did, but substitute Davidson failed to hit the target after Bondarchuk rushed off her line and then put a header straight at the opposition keeper when presented with another golden chance.

Weir had a goalbound shot blocked and Ukraine were content to run down the clock, but with the game's final act, McAneny pounced after a goalmouth scramble to hook home a fine left-footed finish.
