The New Saints have crashed out of Europe following penalty shootout heartbreak against Flora Tallinn in their Conference League second qualifying round tie.

Despite winning on the night thanks to Ben Wilson's dramatic late strike, the same player was then joined by Josh Lock in missing in the shootout.

Trailing 1-0 from last week's first leg in Estonia, Craig Harrison's men started positively as Jack Bodenham headed wide and Jordan Williams and Danny Davies both went close.

In front of a crowd of just under 1,000 at Park Hall Stadium, the hosts continued to press in the second half as Rhys Hughes had an angled shot blocked by away keeper Evert Grünvald.

In first minute of added time, the Cymru Premier champions finally struck, as the ball fell to Wilson just inside the area and he fired a low right-foot shot home.

With no further goals in extra time, penalties were needed and although Nathan Shepperd saved Tony Varjund's effort, Wilson was thwarted by Grünvald and Lock blasted over as Flora prevailed 4-2 in the shootout.

It is the second successive season TNS have lost both their opening Champions League and Conference League qualifying ties.

They begin their quest for a sixth straight domestic title at Penybont on Sunday.

TNS manager Craig Harrison told BBC Radio Shropshire: "I think if I'm being ultra critical, we needed to have a little tiny bit of composure in the final third.

"We got from our goalkeeper to the final third really well, worked the ball through, passed it really well, dominated possession, got in good areas and I just think a little bit more composure, pick a few crosses out, then we probably would have done a lot better but we didn't.

"But the endeavour and the hard work of the players was never ever in doubt in, they ran themselves in the ground the whole 120 minutes."
