    … and breathe.

    What a pulsating evening.

You won’t have found anything on the Curry Mile that sizzled as much as the West Midlands derby did in Birmingham this evening.

Albion rode their luck, and then some, to emerge with a point to inch away from the drop-zone and deny their hosts a place in the top-six, and Charlie Taylor’s goalline clearance may just be the greatest of all-time.

It may have been one of the best goalless draws you'll see but fortunately we had an all-time Championship classic seven-goal thriller at the King Power, where Leicester went to pieces in the closing stages to lose 4-3 having led 3-1 after 83 minutes and makes the prospect of them dropping into the bottom three a real one this weekend.

Whisper it but Norwich are only eight points off the play-offs after thumping Oxford 3-0 with Mo Toure netting a hat-trick and there were plenty of goals in our League One and Two games as Wigan slid further into trouble at the foot of the third tier while Cambridge boosted their chances of climbing into it, and Shrewsbury theirs of staying in the EFL itself.

Thanks for your company this evening, we'll be back tomorrow night for Charlton v Stoke in the Championship, with some bonus League Two action to boot.

Rest up and we'll see you then!

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert celebratesImage source, PA Media

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert speaking to BBC Radio Solent: "It's tough to find the right words for this game. You can say what you want to say, but it was the boys' decision at half-time to have a proper go.

"That comes from inside the players. You can put yourself in front of them... it comes from them.

"A big compliment to Jack [Stephens], as captain and for scoring that goal, even though he should have scored two. It was a great reaction from the whole team.

"We need to enjoy it - the season is long and you don't have many nights like this. It's why we love the game... especially if you travel [as a fan], it's rainy and you're 3-0 down at half-time.

"Sometimes, these parties turn out quite nice towards the end. From tomorrow, we kick on.

"If you allow me today to not look too far ahead, it's one of those days that is very special. Against Charlton [at home on 21 February], what comes will come - hopefully, it will be a better first half."

Leicester have some quality attacking players - they’ll likely go anyway come the summer - but if we drop down who knows who else jumps ship. We may be marooned in the lower leagues for quite while. February 2022 we were in Europe, that decline is firmly on the owners.

    Leicester City

More from Leicester interim head coach Andy King speaking to BBC Radio Leicester: "It's probably a lack of character and leadership. It's been a pattern of the season where we do good things in spells and then go under.

"I'm angry and don't want to speak out of turn or anything like that. I need to analyse it and reflect. I apologise.

"You've seen our season in a nutshell: some brilliant football and goals, then some stuff that is unacceptable."

On his words to the players: "It's probably best if it stays inside the changing room. I don't think that's one for public knowledge.

"We tried to make a big thing at half-time about playing the same way and keeping to the same things.

"I don't want to speak about stuff like [Leicester's survival prospects] when I'm in a state of anger and frustration."

Leicester had the opportunity to sever the rot when they were relegated from the Premier League in 2022-23, by resetting the board. Now, the rot has spread, and it’s terminal. League One beckons and there’s no suggestion the free fall stops there.

Leicester City interim head coach Andy King speaking to BBC Radio Leicester: "I want to start by apologising for that last half an hour, which was completely unacceptable.

"The feeling I have at the moment is complete anger towards the performance. It will probably take a while to process.

"I'll need to watch it back to see what happened. Passive - not good enough."

  7. 'It was one of those nights... but we should have had a penalty'published at 22:35 GMT 10 February

    FT: Birmingham 0-0 West Brom

    Birmingham City

Birmingham boss Chris Davies told Sky Sports:

"I think we’re a little bit frustrated. I think over the course of the game it looked like we’d be the team that would go on and win it. It’s one of those nights where it just wasn’t meant to be.

"I said to the players, get your head up, it’s good that you’re frustrated, you’re playing a seasoned Championship team and were the better team. There were lots of moments, the disallowed goal, hit the post, there keeper's made some saves, the clearance of the line was incredible.

"From a performance standpoint there was plenty to be positive about. We’ve been playing fairly consistently, it’s such a tight league, we have to stay in there, hopefully playing well and knowing it will turn into results."

Davies accepted 'by the letter of the law' it was the correct decision to disallow August Priske's late header but insisted his side should have had a penalty for a handball by Callum Styles from Paik Seung-Ho's first-half header.

"That impacts the game a lot, that was frustrating to see after the match, If you get VAR that would change it. That’s a handball," he said.

  8. 'It's another step forward'published at 22:32 GMT 10 February

    FT: Birmingham 0-0 West Brom

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom head coach Eric Ramsay told Sky Sports:

"I think their momentum built on 90 minutes, up until then it was a relatively even game. It was a really tricky finish for us but we rode that really well and I was really proud of the effort and resilience to get another clean sheet.

"It was a step forwards performance-wise. In open play I felt we were a really good match for them.

"What we have shown over the course of this game is exactly what were going to need for the rest of the season. You can see the players are desperate to get out of it.

"We’re lacking a but of cutting edge, we generated some half chances, we’re pressing really well. It’s got to come but in this situation the characteristics we have shown today are the most important between now and the end of the year.

"To follow up Saturday (the 0-0 with Stoke) with that was huge and I can only say I am happy with where the group is.

"We wanted to show character and personality, we’re winless but over the past two games we have seen big steps forward."

We are putting together results some way or another and settling into a very good position. Hopefully we can take care of that position.

There's some positivity and that has come because of putting together some good results.

Sometimes you can't explain football and tonight was one of those times.

  10. 'We showed Toure images of Haaland and Lukaku'published at 22:27 GMT 10 February

    FT: Oxford 0-3 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich City boss Philippe Clement speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk: "I asked to start hard because Oxford are a very good defensive team.

“We wanted to start like that and it was the perfect scenario to score after one minute, but it was crucial for us.

“Mo [Mohamed Toure] is still a young lad with a lot of potential and several things to improve but he is learning fast.

“This week we showed him several images of [Erling] Haaland and how he creates space for himself, as well as [Romelu] Lukaku and how he uses his body.

“It’s important to have a striker who can find the spaces in behind and is lethal in front of goal.

"The football we have played in the past couple of weeks means that whoever plays there will have a nice time, because all the things around them are much better than a few months ago.”

  11. 'We were worthy winners'published at 22:25 GMT 10 February

    FT: Crawley 0-3 Cambridge

    Cambridge United

Cambridge United boss Neil Harris speaking to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Take the first 75 seconds out of the game, when we gave up a really clear opportunity... we were worthy winners.

"Even in the first half, Crawley had a lot of the football but we dictated where they had the ball and stole it time and time again.

"I don't think we ran hard enough and I've told the lads so. I had a few choice words when George Hoddle, unfortunately, had to go off injured and it was no coincidence that we then found the [44th-minute] opener.

"The second half was one-way traffic. Crawley had a lot of the ball, stood on the ball a lot and passed it sideways. We had transitions and ran forward really well.

"The difference was that in the second half, we created chances. It was a marked improvement from Saturday's defeat at Harrogate.

"I love prepping to play against Scott Lindsey's Crawley teams. He's a brilliant tactician and a top coach - they're so difficult to play against. I love finding ways to stop them.

"I asked the players to put the defeat to bed and come in on Monday ready to respond. I asked them for more focus on a Monday morning than I normally would.

"I knew it would be important to control our shape and where we pressed, and we nailed it."

    FT: Birmingham 0-0 West Brom

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom defender Charlie Taylor told Sky Sports:

It’s one of the hardest places to come in this league, to get a point and the clean sheet is something we can be really pleased with. We rode our luck in the end and got a point.

"Not just tonight, on Saturday as well [in the 0-0 draw against Stoke], we have looked more solid. Another clean sheet is something to build on but we want to be winning games.

"We all know we have not been good enough this season, we should not be in this position with the squad we have. We want to start moving up the table."

On his wonderful goalline clearance to deny Ibrahim Osman's half-volley: "It’s just defensive instinct. I just slid and luckily kept it out."

  14. 'I'll take responsibility'published at 22:17 GMT 10 February

    FT: Oxford 0-3 Norwich

    Oxford United

More from Oxford boss Matt Bloomfield speaking to BBC Radio Oxford: "We know we got things wrong. I know I got things wrong and I take responsibility for that.

"We played as high and as attacking as we possibly could but unfortunately the first goal [inside the first minute] put a pin in us, which is really disappointing.

"All three goals were completely avoidable from our point of view but I'll take responsibility for that.

"We got some things [wrong] in our set-up as well [in terms of] how and when we wanted to go and press. As I said, I'll take responsibility for that."

'We want nine' said Leicester fans after 30 minutes, well Southampton are ninth a couple of hours later after the most staggering of comebacks from 3-0 down to win 4-3 in the 96th minute.

They are ahead of Birmingham on goal difference after the Blues were thwarted by Albion who move above Portsmouth.

Norwich are also creeping up the table as Philippe Clement looks to have got them back on track.

As for Norwich and Leicester... these are very worrying times.

    FT: Leicester 3-4 Southampton

If Leicester score three against a team, it feels as though there's long enough left for teams to still get back in the game.

It feels inevitable now that unless there's radical change, we would lose our place in this league.

This group has a mentality problem. They're weak, they fold if things are not going their way.

That weak mentality starts with the chairman, it has filtered through the football club and it's festered for too long. That's why only half the stadium was full tonight.

    It's an absolute joke.

Oxford United boss Matt Bloomfield speaking to BBC Radio Oxford about whether he can understand low fan morale: "Of course I can.

"Our supporters have supported the team through thick and thin and they will continue to do so.

"I understand it's been a long, hard season for everyone and I we want things to be a lot rosier than they are.

"I've learned a lot and we'll be working on that moving forward. We're missing numbers and we looked tired tonight.

"We've had four games in 10 days and the players looked emotionally drained at the end. They're a really hard-working, honest group.

"We'll come back in to work and we'll keep working. A message to our supporters... they don't need to hear from me because they're really angry with me aat what they've seen tonight.

"It's not for me to start telling them what they should think and feel. I'll keep working extremely hard.

"We've learned a huge amount and we'll implement that."

I thought the owner was naive thinking he can turn this around. I think it's gone too far now and it's going to keep getting worse.

There was an inevitability on the pitch at 3-1 up that we were going to lose. There needs to be an inevitability off the pitch that he sells.

Cambridge United are the big winners, entering the final play-off position with a 3-0 win at Crawley Town, who have cause to be nervous in 20th.

The promotion chasers are next in action at home to struggling Bristol Rovers on Saturday, while Crawley will seek a first goal in three games when they visit 17th-placed Tranmere Rovers on the same day.

Shrewsbury Town have leapfrogged Barrow with that 2-1 home win over Paul Gallagher's side, who are third-bottom after losing eight of their last nine matches and each of the past six.

Salop host Swindon Town, who Cambridge overtook tonight, in four days' time, when Barrow will seek their first points under Paul Gallagher at home to 11th-placed Colchester United.
