Referees are too reliant on VAR, and that West Ham penalty decision was a perfect example of it. Surely the penalty was obvious to the referee on the pitch.

Schade just gets to the pull back and as he controls the ball Fernandes steps in. There is a big wince from Fernandes. I'm very surprised with this decision [to play on].

They want the high bar for overturning decisions but we have VAR in the game for a reason and for me that is a challenge in the box where there is good, heavy contact that doesn't allow Schade to pick his foot back up.

    West Ham 2-1 Brentford

Brentford think they should have had a penalty when Kevin Schade is challenged. But Mateus Fernandes just about nudges the ball away before standing on the toes of Schade.

VAR Constantine Hatzidakis judges that was enough for the original decision of no penalty to remain.

It's turned into a very good watch, this one.

West Ham are playing really well at the minute in and around the Brentford 18 yard box.

This is shaping up to be the tie of the round - and it has some pretty strong competition there!

Keane Lewis-Potter with a bright dribble into the West Ham penalty area, but Mohamadou Kante with a perfectly-timed sliding challenge to nudge the ball away. Great defending, with Alphonse Areola providing some solid handling to catch the following corner.

It's a top penalty isn't it? Bowen just passes it into the left hand corner. Good pace, good power, goalkeeper goes the wrong way. An assured penalty.

    Jarrod Bowen (West Ham, penalty)

So calm from Jarrod Bowen, who sends Caoimhin Kelleher the wrong way from the spot, with the England winger slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Two for Bowen and the Hammers retake their lead.

Traore is going away from goal towards the corner flag and Kayode sticks a leg in between, I'm not sure why, he doesn't get anywhere near the ball.

  10. PENALTY to West Hampublished at 32 mins

    West Ham 1-1 Brentford

Adama Traore is tripped by Michael Kayode. The only surprise it is not given first time by official Andy Madley, but following an intervention from the video assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis, the referee checks it on a pitchside monitor and instantly changes his mind.

    Penalty for the Hammers.

When you're in form, goals just come off you. That has just hit his chest and bounced into the corner of the goal. When you are hot, you are hot, and at the moment Thiago is absolutely boiling.

If you look at the first angle it looks like it hitd Thiago in the mid chest/ or mid stomach. And they are trying to see if it brushes his right arm before that contact. They are looking at it in such minute detail.

    Igor Thiago (Brentford)

Brentford do have their equaliser. Nathan Collins' header, with the slightest of touches off the chest of Igor Thiago. It was checked for offside, checked for handball, nothing given and it is a Thiago goal, although he didn't know much about it.

We are having a VAR check. Nathan Collins with the header that went in. Goal or not?

The ball is in the net for a potential Brentford equaliser, but has it brushed the arm of Igor Thiago?

Michael Kayode gets his hands on the ball for the first of his special long throws, but West Ham head it away before it is lashed wide of goal with the follow-up attempt from Yehor Yarmoliuk.

  18. 'Against the run of play'published at 19:54 GMT

    West Ham 1-0 Brentford

    Glenn Murray

It is against the run of play. They had two or three minutes with a couple of good attacks West Ham and they've made it count.

Brentford have without doubt been the better side, they need to get a foothold back into it.

Seeing the goal again, it may have been inadvertently headed down by Brentford's Kristoffer Ajer instead of Tomas Soucek, both were jumping and chalenging for the header, but there's no doubt that it was a tidy finish from Jarrod Bowen, again West Ham's main man.

  20. 'It falls nicely for Bowen'published at 20 mins

    West Ham 1-0 Brentford

    Glenn Murray
Former Crystal Palace and Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's always their captain Bowen. He always steps up when his club needs him. He's really taken this club to his heart.

It's a recycled corner, Fernandes puts it back in, Soucek nods it across goal and it falls nicely for Bowen.
