Well it may not have been pretty at times, but John Doolan's side have come away with all three points. Hometown hero Alex Henderson will remember tonight's goal - it was a special strike.

However, they had to dig deep and Salford will regret missing some good chances, with Accy goalkeeper Ollie Wright in fine form. His defence were very solid, as well.

Accrington Stanley boss John Doolan speaking to Sky Sports: "It was an outstanding goal from Alex Henderson. I was really pleased for him because he's a season ticket holder in the Clayton End, he's been an Accrington Stanley supporter since he's been born, so to score a goal there in front of the cameras was so special for him.

"We had a gameplan. Obviously the elements spoiled it slightly but we had a gameplan, we knew we could hurt them in the wide areas ourselves but in terms of the way the game was going we just had to make sure that we stuck together and resilient.

"We just had to compete. We showed that on Saturday against Cheltenham by getting the three points and tonight was about being together, getting on the pitch, doing your job as an individual and when you can hurt them in certain areas it was that.

"I'm really so, so pleased with getting the win."

Accrington goal scorer and player of the match Alex Henderson told Sky Sports: "It was quite early on in the game, it was the first shot on target I think and thankfully it went in and what a strike it was. I was buzzing.

"It was a very tough game. As soon as the goal went in the wind conditions, every time there was a throw-in it was going all over the place"

Accrington's third win in a row lifts them into the top half of League Two for the first time since the opening day of the season.

Salford stay fifth, but it's a missed opportunity.

John Doolan will be absolutely delighted for all the reasons. Scrappy game, horrible conditions and that will tell him that his players are up for a fight. Every one of his players put an absolute shift in. These kind of performances please managers.

In the first half, they looked confident, they played some good football as well but it's all about the horrible stuff as well. Putting a shift in, man marking all that stuff.

Bodies on the line, blocks. That is a fantastic three points.

Salford miss the chance to go second.

What a save from Ollie Wright.

Daniel Udoh should be scoring and not giving the keeper a chance but Wright has been fantastic tonight.

That was the chance! Brilliant from Prince Ehibhatiomhan, who darts away down the left, gets a low cross in which Dan Udoh pokes goalwards, Ollie Wright makes a fine point-blank save - but then Cole Stockton puts the rebound wide!

It came back at him quickly, but you didn't see him missing that.

The corner is punched away by Ollie Wright and after a brief melee, with the ball seemingly anyone's, he also lands on it when it emerges.

Isaac Sinclair puts a shift in, he covers every blade of grass and my word he's put in a shift in again.

Another double change for Salford, and more attacking options being thrown on.

Southampton loanee Prince Ehibhatiomhan makes his debut, while former Liverpool man Fabio Borini also comes on. Rosaire Longelo and Jorge Grant make way.

Accrington respond by bringing on Luke Butterfield for Isaac Sinclair.

Alfie Dorrington meets a corner at the far post but looks disgusted with himself as he can only send a header straight at the goalkeeper.

That was a massive chance for Devon Matthews, scruffy stuff in the end.

Close to a second goal for Accy. A free-kick on the right-hand edge of the box is rolled square, Donald Love drills it, Farrend Rawson flicks it with a turn of the boot and it arrives at the feet of Devon Matthews, who scuffed his shot from close range wide. There was no flag, either.
